Yanda Is Back!

Ehhh not so much, read it again its pretty dead on. Yes, the draft picks and tenders aren't mentioned but that is the point, to drive home how little flexibility we have in signing big names while retaining our own. Yanda just isn't worth that money. Sign a vet stop gap for 3-4 mil and be done with it. If you want to do your own math go ahead but $36 mil is assuming Ngata's franchise tag is removed and has yet to be resigned, his tag costs $12 mil alone towards the cap. We freed up 18.6 mil already, Ngata is another 12, then you can remove McClain, Landry, Bulger, Carr/Wilson... you're right around $36 mil but again, that is BEFORE extending Ngata and tenders and draft picks, etc.
We're not scheduled to pay half the guys you have mentioned, therefore the basis of your math is flawed from the start. They are UNRESTRICTED FREE AGENTS! So, to say "remove" so and so doesn't mean last years money gets added back in. Oh boy......

If I was a betting man, I'd say we sign Yanda for significantly less than what some of you think he's going to want...
I'd hope so. But if he really turned down $6.5M, then I'm not so sure about that. We already know the Skins want Yanda and Gaither. I'm not betting against Snyder in a bidding war.

We're going to be breaking the bank for both our starting guards, this is similar to the Saints predicament only we're paying Nicks/Evans money to Grubbs/Yanda.
True. The only RG in the market that may or may not be better than Yanda is Jahri Evans....and I can only imagine how much he will demand.

It's worth giving Yanda more than "necessary" as opposed to signing a FA for less when that FA is clearly worse.

No Yanda + no Gaither + a less capable FA = worse offense and quite possibly Flacco getting killed.

I'm not sure how many of us are thinking about Flacco's health right now, but the FO better be.

Ravens' RFA tenders: Oniel Cousins: (3rd), Tavares Gooden (3rd), Jameel McClain (2nd), Haruki Nakamura (6th)

And how'd that work out? Not saying Birks bad but... running up the middle is a little bit of a challenge with him... Like I said, Yanda is the glue that kept our offense together, do you want to imagine a line without him?
I agree with you. I was just telling you we would probably sign somebody if we didn't get Yanda. I'm on your side when it comes to Yanda. Every expert this summer has talked about protecting Flacco, and that starts with Yanda. Gotta spend money for talent. Thats just how it is.

Yanda is the best RG in FA. Hands down. Do we want to let him walk, and start a mediocre guy like Chester again? Do you wanna have an elite offense or a joke offense? The game is won in the trenches, and Yanda wins his battles.
We let Brown go and chase the money and he's been unspectacular in St. Louis, although pretty solid... but certainly not irreplaceable.

I'm hoping that's not the case since Evans was the best Guard in the NFL when he signed his contract and the same goes for Nicks.

Neither Yanda or Grubbs has ever been the best guard in the NFL. Very good, yes. The best? Nope.

You know what's even funnier? Some of us don't realize that we can get guys who are just as good in the FA pool, and not pay through the nose for them.
That's not true, there are no guards in free agency as good as Yanda.

Momma Yanda is that you?

Yanda is NOT worth $8 mil a year. I would rather free up some cap space, sign a vet for 3-4 mil per season, and use the extra money to improve the pass rush. $8 mil for Yanda is ridiculous and I find it offensive that he so easily turned down a generous offer from the Ravens. Don't say you'll stay for a fair deal and then turn one down when its offered.

Exactly, and unfortunately, I don't believe Evans is a FA, so that makes matters worse. Do we want Flacco and Rice killed another season? Do we want that? IF you're in your right mind you'd say no, and spend the money.

Although, I agree with Berad, and say Yanda will be probably be signed to a cheaper deal than we're expecting. Also, Ozzie has said that Yanda is the biggest priority other than Ngata. I don't think he'd let a huge priority go.

I'm gonna say this one more time, and then let it go...
Do you want an elite offense, or a joke offense?

That was in no part Yanda's fault. If he couldn't have played tackle as well as he did, I shudder to think what might have happened to Flacco.

Our offense was a joke, because we had OL issues... If we let this guy go, we will have even more OL issues... Therefore, our offense will then be a bigger joke... Very simple folks.

Yanda is the best RG in FA.
Is that so? Blalock in ATL also plays OG and OT, and he gave up one sack compared to Yanda's 6, and is just as good against the run.

EDIT

Oh yeah, and ONE penalty last year as well.

I think someone who can play both guard (elite like) positions and right tackle (solidly) is worth up to 8 million. We don't know what was in that 6.5 million dollar contract he turned down. He might of wanted to see what would happen with the lockout. But the kind of person Yanda is and has been, I think he is going to take less than what we are thinking. I'm thinking around 7 million which I would take in a heartbeat.

Where'd you find those stats? Just curious...

Why hasn't La Canfora mentioned him? Have a reason for that? The analysts on NFLN clearly stated Yanda is the best OL in FA, not just OG.

I don't think the Falcons played against as many good pass rushing teams as we did. Also I think Flacco has held the ball longer than Ryan, whether it was Flaccos fault or not. I could be wrong though.

He's not worth the money he wants, but our line is in trouble if he leaves. Hard situation. Thank the man above that I'm not making the decisions.

There is a reason people are buying into his hype imo, because he deserves it.

Tell Harrison / Woodley, Chris Long, Trent Cole, Clay matthews, Dunlap and Sedrick Ellis that they are not as good as the pass rushers we faced last year.

Don't go there. The experts aren't involved, so they couldn't really know. In all fairness, the players said it almost over about 10 different times...

Okay, I don't think I've ever seen those stats listed, but I'll take another look.

Well there must be a reason Yanda has more hype than this other guy...

What are you laughing at Fly?

The experts weren't involved in the CBA negotiations, how are they gonna tell us if they're almost done or not? You tell me.

Those experts are paid to talk about football, I'm sure they have reasons to give some guys more hype than others. In some cases, this is not true, but there must be some reason why...

I will admit, after reading your link, I have to admit that the other dude probably does deserve a bigger contract. He might be a better RG. But, do you understand the consequences of what would happen if we lost yanda? Cuz I'm fairly certain all the other OL above Yanda will also be "over-paid" by other teams...
