Damn. He turned down 6.5 million? He may be more expensive than we thought. Wonder how much of an impact this will have on the people we released.
I am shocked at the price point for Yanda! Hmmm... wonder what will be left over to sign other free agents if Yanda takes up most of the cap room? What is the point at which the Ravens say 'can't do it'?

Yanda knows Tampa Bay will give him 9 million dollars easily just to fill up their cap salary. If Yanda thinks he can get that type of money in Baltimore, it's not worth it because we need that money to sign up Joe Flacco, Ray Rice, Ben Grubbs and Michael Oher in the coming years.

You need ot get that moving bug off your signature man! It gets me every time!!! LOL

Right now we freed 18.6 mil, depending on the source we are either 16 or 20 mil under the cap as of now. We still have contracts to restructure, Ngata's extension (which should significantly reduce the $12 mil cap hit we are currently taking on his franchise tag) and the release of McClain, Landry, etc.

So when its all said and done before resigning we should have around:

$36,000,000 in cap room before extending Ngata, lets assume he takes a cap friendly deal with a lot of guaranteed money and plays for about $8 mil per yr

$28,000,000

Now we need to:

a) Resign Yanda or B) Spend that money elsewhere

If we resign Yanda, lets say he stays for $8mil (I think that is way too much and wouldn't budge off 7, throw in some more guaranteed money if you want him that bad but good guards will be released).

$21,000,000

Now you need to resign Carr or Wilson, since we aren't getting Aso lets sign Wilson for about 4 mil per year

$17,000,000

Now we need to improve the WR corps...Holmes will cost about $10 and Rice should cost about $6...lets go with Rice

$11,000,000

Now we need a big time FB to block for Rice and whoever is the #2 back

Vickers will cost about $2 mil and Leach about $4...go with Vickers

$9,000,000

With the remaining $9 mil I sign the best 3-4 DE out there or two mid level guys

**Just an example**

This year, the rookie pool salary is way below due to the rookie wage scale. I expect around 5 million dollars are needed to cover all the rookies. Pretty neat stuff. Also assume around 8-10 million to cover all the EFA and RFAs.

What? Yanda turned down $6M??? Let this guy go to the Redskins where he belongs then. He's not an elite player, and I dont want Ozzie to be strong-armed into paying him like one. I would MUCH rather sign Gaither for half that amount.

1) Yanda is an elite player
2) Gaither is not coming back, especially for $3M a year. He's looking for big time money

1. No, he isn't.

2. That's what everyone said last season too, but Gaither signed a $2.4M contract. I would take Gaither at $3 - $4M over Yanda at $7 - $8M any day of week.

Gaither knows his value, and I think Ozzie will make him a fair offer that I expect Gaither to take. He's injury-prone and his work ethic has been in question, so I don't think teams are going to be lining up for his services.

Nope, you can't. I agree. I still think he's a bit over-hyped. Grubbs is a better G. Yanda is a nice player,I just dont see the Ravens paying him 8mil+.
I'd rather have Yanda over Grubbs if it came down to that. Yanda plays a more challenging position (RG) at a high level and has the versatility to play RT if need be. I'm not sure I would be happy with 8M a year, but he is a key part of our O-line and we should do everything we can to sign him long-term.

I agree. I don't think Yanda is worth $8 million per year... we could use that money to fill other needs.

That being said, I fully expect Yanda to return.

Yanda is an elite GUARD. Rt he is solid. But he is an elite run blocker. He does a great job of pushing people off the line and winning the line of scrimmage battle.

I am all for trying to get Gaither. I agree with you 100% about trying to get Gaither. But Yanda is a workout machine, and Gaither has questions. But for 4 million dollars the Ravens should do everything they can do get him. But for much more, he has too many question marks

I was going to say if we sign gaither Oher could kick into guard, or a tackle can slide in.

Why wouldn't he just return to RT, the position he played his rookie year?

I think that's a good back-up plan. I hope Gaither signs like a two year 10 million dollars. That way we can revamp our line.

Gaither - (Reid, Harewood) - Birk - Grubbs - Oher

Grubbs can move to RG so he can do Yanda's duty. I think Ramon Harewood has the size and smarts to slide in. It should be easier for a tackle to slide in as a guard than the opposite.

why would yall want oher to slide and not dominate the RT spot and have both tackle spots locked down, LMAO

Oher is the best player in the league at RT, RG and LG.

Oher as a guard would be interesting because he does have the mean streak to work it. Also maybe we can drive down his potential cost when it's his turn.

I agree 100 percent. ESPN/NFL network is driving his (Yanda)price up considerably.

Bucs priority will be their own UFA guard in his prime: Davin Joseph. Not saying they couldn't make a play for Yanda but it just makes more sense to pursue a similar guy who already knows their blocking schemes than go for Yanda.

So, if Yanda is SUCH AN ELITE gaurd and especially a run blocker, why did we NEVER have great success running on the right side of center? the last time we had decent luck was when Lo Neal was here. Coincidence? I think NOT!

It's tough to have success running to the right when your weakest blocker is at RG. Still, I noticed Yanda moving DEs consistently last season, and doing the same to DTs in '09.

in fairness, Chester an Birk are worthless as run blockers lol.

But 'elite' OL dont give up 6 sacks in a season, like Yanda just did.

I like Yanda, I want him back. But I assumed we would not get raped in the deal.

I say 7.5mil is max for Yanda cuz we have alot of holes to fill up.

I's sadden me that he turned down 6.5million...come on money better than having a ring?

He needs to think it carefully cuz we fans love to have you back as well as the organization.

6.5million is still alot anyways.....
