David Reed and Marcus Smith have played games they've just never caught passes that counted. Tackle is worse, IMO, not much after Oher.
Reed has ran an end-around though.

thats a nice amount
And it very well could be a lot less (not his contract, but his first years cap number).

not rly, id say wr, we have 1 wr who has played in an nfl game..
cant say tsmith reed or doss will be anything yet
That is false. However, not counting Yanda, we only have one Tackle whose played in an NFL game.

Let's see how the market pans out.

This deal is much better than the $7.5-$8M per year deal some people thought he wanted.
Where'd u get that source? The biggest payoff for guard in NFL history was 7.3mil. Alan Faneca in his prime got 4.5million dollar when he was a all-pro bowler. You mean to tell me a non-probowler can get 7.5-8m? Yanda was overpaid big time. I'd say 4mill would have been perfect. Bad negotiation on Ozzie's part especially at a time with a significant salary cap on our heads.

Yanda is worth every penny. He always does what he is asked. Although he did not shine at right RT last year, he held his own; however, I agree with most everyone else that he is our starting RG.
Any word on how Harewood did rehabbing both knees? I already don't like Cousins are RT.

He did shine. Outside of the Dolphins game, Yanda played well all season.

Harewood has reportedly healed well. He's been training with Zeus for at least the past two months.

And how long ago was that when Faneca was paid? Contracts go up every single year. Yanda will make what 6 Million this year? A freaking 37 year old kicker was signed to a 3 year deal that will pay him 4 Million in guaranteed money this year, and Yanda is over paid.

The Chargers just made Eric Weddle the highest paid Safety in the history of the NFL, and my first thought was who? And the interesting part about that is, I wanted the Ravens to draft Weddle a few years back. He's a good players, but the highest paid Safety?, Ed Reed must be smiling ear to ear right now.

Yanda is considered one of the top RG in the NFL, and he didn't even play there last year. It's a part of me that wishes Yanda would have stayed unsigned until like Saturday, so you guys could see what he would have been offered by some other teams.

Yanda was the first olineman off the market this year, and he didn't even set the market. Wait until you start to see what guys like Joseph will get from the Bucs.

What source?

And Faneca signed that $4.5M deal in 2002, you'd be a fool to think that salaries haven't inflated since then. In actually, when Faneca signed with the Jets in 2007, it was a 5-year $40M deal, an average of $8M per season. I'd say the Yanda contract is just fine. We'll see how it compares to other FA guards this off-season.

On top of all that the guy is super injury prone. He has never had a healthy season and he just lost a bunch of weight with some people saying he looked like a TE last year. If we invest money in this guy we are in for trouble. There are number of good tackles we can try to get FA like Bushrod and Clabo. And i think the cheapest and most talented tackle thats available is Jamaal Brown, a perennial pro bowl LT. Leave to the redskins to trade all their draft picks and and throw all they money on a great player and then crap all over them.
I totally agree with you. I hope we can get Clabo...

I should have rephrased that. You're right. I meant people we actually want starting at tackle.

i friggin' hope so. If Joseph and Blalock can get at least $8.5M, I will feel much better about bringing Yanda back @ $7M
Davin Joseph just got 7 years 53Million, with 19 million guaranteed. Does that make you feel any better about the Yanda deal?

Yep. He's getting a mil more per year, and although Joseph is a little better at OG, Yanda makes up for it in his versatility. But then again, the pessimist in me says "it's the Bucs. Who else are they gonna throw money at"

Yea good point. They also signed Trueblood to a 2 year deal. I'm interested in seeing the numbers on that deal, as I think a guy like that will kind of set the market for Gaither.

Clabo just got a 5 year 25 million deal $11.5 M in guaranteed. Gaither will get nowhere close to this imo. However it's the Raiders who are talking to him so who knows.

Dude, stop toying with my emotions lol. I was just starting to feel better about the big pile of cash we handed Yanda, now you're telling me a great young OT just signed for $1.5M a year less than Yanda?

:(

Wow, Clabo did not get market value for his services. I can't believe he signed that deal, he easily could have gotten more elsewhere.

If it makes you feel any better, Clabo's contract could max out at 27 million.

I could make the argument that Top Right Guards are just as hard to find if not harder than Top Right Tackles. People tend to think that Guards are less talented linesman than Tackles, but in reality RG in particular is a very difficult position. Not only do they have to do the yeoman's work in the run game, but RG is also often lined up 1v1 against the 3 tech in pass-rush situations. And we wonder why our O-line fell apart with Chester last season....

Could be, but still, OT get paid more.
I guess all that matters to us is that we got an important player back, and even though I feel we paid a little bit too much, it's not like we grossly overpaid for the guy either.
I'm just in Ozzie mode this off season; every dollar counts

Yea but it also could've been a situation like with Suggs. Hey you guys wanna pay me as an OLB, but i spend most of my time with my hand in the dirty, so i wanna be paid like a DE.

I'm sure Yanda's agent reminded the Ravens how the fact that Yanda has played RT 2 of the last 3 years for this team. Although the Ravens want him to be a RG, Yanda's people probably wanted him to be compensated for his service at RT, and because in the future, the Ravens won't hesitate to put Yanda back at RT if needed.

Versatility= a couple Million dollars more in today's NFL.
