[Blogs] Reports: Mason Will Be Released

303 posts in this topic

That's what you have to expect with the salary cap, keep your core players who are productive and move out the older higher priced players. Sure they may have a few good years left, but you have to do a constant make over year in year out. Remember Flacco and Rice are in the last year of their contracts also!! GO RAVENS!!!!!!

this move doesnt hurt me as much as letting Heap go. Im a true raven and i love Mason like a brother but i do belive this is the best move for the TEAM. mason and boldin are both possesion recivers. u need recivers the compliment each other. and if u watch the games what is the only route that mason catches. the 10yrd out. now letting heap go is risky. we play the in a very physical divison that requires your tightend to be a solid blocker. did any one see what happened when dickson and pitta tried to block. belive me it wasnt pretty. im not saying that dickson and pitta cant do it and i pray they make me eat these words but HEEEEEEEAP was a solid blocker and pass catcher

I had hoped Heapand Mason would hang on and help the young guys. I don't believe the Mason thing is final, but Heap will be gone. Gregg and McGahee are not a surprise, Gregg willplay some where; McGahee will have to take a pay cut. Losing Heap hurts the most.

Sometimes you have to stand firm on the guys you have. How can Joe get better taking away his best receivers at the same time. Knee jerk reaction by Ravens.

Where is Foxworth in all of this? He's the most over paid Raven out there (aside from McGehee).

I am afraid he's not there because, whatever arcane rules governing cap space, he'll only free $1.4M in space, even though he's set to make $7.4M this season. I'm hoping we can at least restructure his deal.

When it comes down to it. It is still about the money.the year 2011 under the new CBA has the Ravens in cap trouble as sad as it my be it falls on Mason,Heap, ect. These young TE need to step ther games up and Reed and doss will need to fill what was Mason role

Just watch the Jets swoop up Gregg.

GOOD, maybe we can swoop on Holmes or Edwards. Ravens would be crazy to not bring in another Veteran to go along with Q. And don't give me the Hardy come back. The man has 10 career receptions and 2 TDs to his name. That's not proven veteran talent in my eyes!!

I think I will wait for the word from Ozzie before I come to any thought on any roster moves.

I will say that whomever Ozzie does feel we need to release it is done to move forward. I am sure (as always) he has thought it through and it was not an easy or quick decision.

GO RAVENS!

Mase and Heap gone is alittle hard to believe. If Mason goes as well as Heaper, they must have there eye on a starting WR opposite Boldin but I cant really see any top-end wideout coming here to play in Cams scheme, WR's usually hit career lows here...I mean look at Boldin last year..if take away that vs. Cle he would have a sad season statistically. Free Agents know if they are gonna sign with a mediocre offense and that is a major turnn-off. What WR would wanna come here that would be a replacement for Mase..Holmes,Rice..hell no. The only guy i could see would be Smith, and even though id love to have hime here...how long would it take for his aggressive to go nuts after Cam calls screens and simple 2 WR formations...I dont know it seems a little rumor-filled that Mase would be let go

Man, a dark day. Much love to Mace and HEEAP, but damn that's a part of Raven history were letting go. Mace is a little more expendable because of his age, but we all know how clutch he is/was and was one of the main reason's Flacco is the passer that he is, the main reason we got so far in these past 3 season, and the main reason our offense is built the way it is. But letting go Heeap IMO is a bad move. However, God makes things happen for a reason, hopefully better one's with Dickson and Pitta, but i'll miss the boys for sure. Alohaz my bradda's, Mason and Heap............

I'm in total shock. Out of all the serious predictions we've heard, never did we see Mason or Heap mentioned in any sort of roster movement, at least I didn't.

I'm praying to a god I don't believe in that this is all just a really bad rumor, or a terrible joke.

All of you people complaining need to realize Mason is 37. Plus look at all the WR's we picked up recently. Then whoever thinks Dickson isnt ready you are retarded, thats why they had him learn and be groomed behind Heap last season for that exact reason. Then with these releases look at how much $$$ we free'd up. 18.6 mil, thats grip. Thats a perfect amount to resign a few specific guys and the chosen rookies. I think if they do it right it leaves them just enough $ for 1 big name guy in FA. Just look at some guys in the FA... names like Ocho and Plaxxico, or there are a handful of big name pass rushers too..; Ozzie and Harbough know what they are doing trust me.

Meet the newest New York Jets. But look at it this way. We couldn't beat the Steelers with what we had. As good as Heap and Mason are, and as much as they mean to Baltimore, it was time to make some big changes. In this case, we get to keep our young studs and now have room to sign at least one, maybe 2 big time game changers.
