[Blogs] Reports: Mason Will Be Released

Ok, Gregg and McGahee I totally agree with. Gregg is well past his prime, and McGahee costs way too much. Heap, I'm a bit sad about, but I can understand it. But Mason? The guy has been the staple of our receiving corp. since he joined us. He probably only has one, maybe two, years left in him, but he's still got game! He's one of the most underrated receivers in the league. And the main point I want to make is that he is a veteran, and we have TWO young rookies coming in this year. That one year they would have to learn under Mason's council would be tremendously beneficial. I wholeheartedly disapprove.

@ Blazin Ravens

I completely agree, 1. Boldin 2. Smith 3. Reed 4. Doss 5. Hardy
is not a bad setup for us. We have experience, size, speed, and possesion
ability in that lineup and further more, we get a lot younger just off of
moving heap and mason. As much respect as I have for heap, you have to admitt,
he has been hit with the injury bug in his later years and the two younger
TE's were drafted for this specific reason, to replace heap. They may be more
pass catchers than blockers but I can see that the Ravens are moving towards
a more pass happy offense with the wides we have and with ray being another
option in the passing game. With Mason, im pretty sure he knew his time was up,
37 years old, he is a great possession guy and will find work on another team
that needs a certified #2 pass cather but at this time, we need to compete with
the Steelers, and to do that, we need young, fast, and strong wides that can
put a hurt on Pits D. I think we have that now, in all honesty, with Hardy and
Reed and Smith and Doss, that will give us enough options with Boldin to go deep
as well as the middle routes. I like this setup and I think this sets us up
offensively for the next 5-8 years. We now have a young QB,RB,WR,TE,LT,RT(if reid gets the job), and CB with the addition of Jimmy Smith. we are getting younger and better slowly and even though I hate to see those guys go, at the end of it all, we may look back at this moment a year from now today and say, this is the reason the ravens are the 2011 SuperBowl Champs!!

I love the idea of getting younger for our future .. but the chemistry mason amd flacco have is ridiculous ! We have to many young and inexperienced recievers entering there first year and I much rather have a slower and more in tact with joe mason out there making grabs instead of a young receiver but I'm gonna keep posted and leave my faith in oz... but dam were loosing a lot of players compared.
