The line still could still be good if Oher improves, Yanda is re-signed to play RG, and either Reid, Harewood, or a FA signing like Woody plays well at RT.
Harewood isn't going to sniff the field this season... Reid, maybe, but I'd like him to sit a year and learn.

ummmm, amazing what happens to your football team when your out at dinner.
No doubt. I went to play some tennis. Got back and the forum was afire. I had to pull out the fire extinguisher and figure out what's all the hubbub about. Crazy.

Its not what they have done in the past. Mason and Heap are both at the ends of their carrear. They are injury prone and slow. Mason cannot get seperation and should have been cut last year. The only way our young TE's and WR's are going to get better is playing in games against top corners and safteys. Great move by the ravens. They can sign ngata to a long term ans free some cap room (12.5M this year for Tag) and sign yanda. Then they can go out and get the two things they need, a good servicible LT (Oher sucks) and a DE/OLB who can get pressure opposite of suggs.
Careful what you say....odds are they'll both be back (Mason and Heap) and be starters once again.

I dont see why Harewood wont be given a shot at RT. He has great size but is very raw. Maybe working in the offseason with Orlando Brown helped him improve his technique and footwork to the point where he can contend for that job.

How do you know? Just because the off-season has been abbreviated doesn't mean he can't win the RT job.

Love how the announcement comes out that they'll be cut, and people go automatically into "throw them under the bus" mode.

That's a strong statement. What makes you so sure.

The Ravens were very impressed with Harewood last season before his injury sat him down for the entire season.

I actually think Reid will be the one who won't see much action(lockout result). If Gaither isn't re-signed. Look for Cousins to line up at RT on Friday, with Harewood getting a lot of action as well.

Yanda is not a RT. He can fill in in a pinch, but as you saw, he is a guard. He needs to be at RG.

Mason and Heap...... thanks but have a good life.

Another thing about this is, the quickness of these moves make me feel as though Ozzie is confident that they will resign at a lower value.

I wonder how Flacco feels about Mason not being there anymore....
To be perfectly honest, he might not be as mad as all of us might think. Now that the vets are gone, he can now develop chemistry with players that will be around for the majority of his career. We all knew Mase and Heap were already one foot out the door, maybe its best that they just pull the band aid off quick and allow Joe to develop with his new toys and be a force on offense for years to come. Guys like David Reed, Ed Dickson, and Dennis Pitta have been chomping at the bit for a chance to contribute. I have a warm feeling that we'll all be impressed with what they can do. Not to mention all the fun toys we picked up this draft with Torry and Tandon.

I never thought in a million years that I'd say releasing Heap would be a good decision...

He's also coming off an injury... all I'm saying is that I'd be extremely surprised if he saw the field during the regular season, but hey, maybe he dominates in the preseason and turns some heads? I doubt it though.

We're doomed if Cousins or Harewood play RT... we all saw what Woodley did to Cousins, what do you think he'll do to Harewood? Come on now....

I'd have more faith in Harewood than Cousins. I personally would love to see what Harewood could do. Don't thing week 1 is the best option though. But I can see us experimenting with the line come week 2.

According to Zeus, his mobility is completely back. Not to say his knees couldn't affect him, but I don't think it'll hold him back from winning a job. We'll see what happens.

I suspect that he might have. I believe that Mason dropped a touchdown pass when he was wide open in 2009 or perhaps 2008. Not to mention the fact that his playoff performance last year didn't exactly inspire confidence.
It was 2009 at Pittsburgh during the regular season. I was at that game and almost had an aneurism when he dropped that wide open TD. We would have kicked Pittsburgh out of the playoffs with a win that game. OH WELL, they didn't make the playoffs anyway :229031_rofl:

Well the Steelers Salary Cap figure is higher than the Ravens, so the'll need to do some number crunching as well.

Mason did kinda slow us down last year
Absolute BS. Mason did not slow this team down, he helped carry it.

Cutting Mason is a big mistake. He's been the only reliable WR for years, and was playing great football last year.

Cutting Heap is a mistake. He's also been reliable and made some game-saving plays these last couple of years.

Cutting McGahee is unfortunate, as I recall him scoring quite a few TDs last year and making big plays in clutch moments. That said, we do have Ray Rice and it is expensive to pay both.

Gregg I can understand being injury-prone.

Are we really gambling on unproven rookies...especially for a season in which there has been essentially no preseason training? It just doesn't make sense.

EDIT: Hopefully the talk about resigning them at a cheaper price is true. Losing Heap and Mason is taking steps backward in my opinion.

Mason and Heap are not worth the money..

What part of we need to develop younger guys who will be with franchise for years to come dont you understand. They cannot get seperation. Thats half the problem.

Yanda played well at RT last season and if we dont have a better option he may be asked to play RT in the future as well. I would rather see him at RG because he sure can open up some running lanes.

Two play-off games, one catch.

Mase is the man, and if he returns, good. But outside of comebacks, curls, and out routes, he isn't beating too many good CBs.

Calling it a mistake is just presumptuous. It may not be ideal, but the Ravens have other priorities, and clinging to the past is a sure way to fall behind. Joe needs to not rely on Mason, or any one receiver in particular. Besides, we have Boldin and some young receivers who need to get playing time. Heap is a great tight end, but he's injury prone and we have young tight ends in waiting. Although, I do wonder how it will affect our offensive line, because he was a pretty good blocker and Dickson/Pitta aren't yet. But, we needed to free up cap space to sign Yanda and others.

UH we have Oher. He is not a natural RG and it showed in the run game.
The guys was in his 2nd year as a developmental player. I'm not saying he's the next great RT, but it was knowing that Cousins would take 3-4 years to develop. The guy played pretty well for a guy shoved into a starting role mid season.

Yea he struggled against Woodley, but how many high caliber RT have struggled against that guy. We act like Cousins was dominated by a guy like Edgar Jones or something.

The Ravens are still very high on Cousins. I personally think he should be moved back inside, but because of the lockout shortening time, I think he'll be lined up at RT on Friday to open practice if Gaither isn't re-signed,
