MERGED: General Reactions to the Reported Cuts

415 posts in this topic

People are making knee jerk reactions. Let's wait and see how many of these guys sign back at lesser contracts before we jump ship or start a riot. I am willing to bet both Mason and Heap are both back within the week. Ozzie is moving fast to free up $ to sign the big names we need. And no, I am not talking about Rice and Asomugha!

I agree. I bet Mase and Heap might be back. The FO just feels like they are overpaid and there is no time to restructure deals. Cut, and you make them and offer.

McClain isn't a priority, he's a luxury. The Ravens could find a true lead FB to add to the power running game without a problem.

Locking Ngata up long term and keeping Yanda are the reasons the money is being freed up.

The Ravens will get in a bidding war for Yanda, i don't see them doing it for McClain. He'll either want to be here for the money we offer or he'll walk.

we need a field stretcher! sign randy moss...he will be cheap and if he doesn't work out its not a lost. if randy is motivaated we will be amazing!
[/quote]
Moss is wayy too much trouble - talented, but not really a "team player" in the truest sense!

I didn't even think about resigning. I definitely had a knee jerk reaction myself. I really hope we get Heap and Mase back. I'd like McGahee too, but people seem to think we're okay without him.

It's more of a result of the lockout then the players. Each one of those guys were heading into their final contract years, and guys like Flacco, Rice, Grubbs, and a host of other not so expensive guys are coming up for contracts next year.

I strongly beleive that Gregg, Mason, Heap, and probably even JJ would have been asked to restructure this year, even without the lockout. Only it would have been done behind closed doors.

However because of the lockout, the day that the league year opens, will be the same day guys can be resigned. The Ravens can afford to drag their feet and risk losing Yanda, or not being able to get Ngata re-signed this year.

That's why I say, fans just need to step back, I'm sure those players aren't even reacting as strongly as us fans are. By this same time next week, the Ravens will be on the field practicing and Heap, Mason, and Gregg will be with them like normal. All will be forgotten.

I cant imagine Gaither is the #1 priority. Yanda is far more valuable IMO. I would like to see us keep Gaither as well, but he would 4th or 5th on my list.

So, RG is more valuable than LT? Since when?

Alan Ricard held lead JLew to a 2000 yard season.

Ovie Mughelli was good enough to get a nice sized contract from the Falcons.

Lorenzo Neal was a really good blocker for us the year we had him.

The Ravens have had some pretty good FBs over the years.

I like all the moves so far. We can't have stagnant vets on the decline killing growth of the new blood.

I don't think it's the position as much as the players.

I really think the Ravens have faith in a guy like Yanda to be healthy and be a really strong part of out oline for years.

Gaither on the other hand, while extremely talented, just hasn't proved he can be counted on. So for that reason he won't be the Ravens #1 priority this year.

None I actually do expect us to re-sign him, because I think he's genuine about wanting to be in Baltimore, and I also think we'll give him a fair deal.

Well, obviously he won't be, but I think solidifying that unit is our #1 priority, and signing back Gaither does that because it puts Oher back at RT, where he excelled his Rookie year, and Yanda in his natural RG spot. Our O-line was at its best with that alignment 2 years ago.

I like Kuhn as well, but I think it would be Ahmad Hall over Kuhn. I don't have anything to back that up really. Just a gut feeling.

Man if you think about the guys we are cutting, imagine the total sum of the vets cut around the league. There are going to be a lot of vets available on Friday.

The line still could still be good if Oher improves, Yanda is re-signed to play RG, and either Reid, Harewood, or a FA signing like Woody plays well at RT.

Its not what they have done in the past. Mason and Heap are both at the ends of their carrear. They are injury prone and slow. Mason cannot get seperation and should have been cut last year. The only way our young TE's and WR's are going to get better is playing in games against top corners and safteys. Great move by the ravens. They can sign ngata to a long term ans free some cap room (12.5M this year for Tag) and sign yanda. Then they can go out and get the two things they need, a good servicible LT (Oher sucks) and a DE/OLB who can get pressure opposite of suggs.

Since we have another player who is capable of playing LT. If Gaither had played last season then I might feel differently, but Yanda excels at both RG and RT with no history of injuries or questions about his work ethic.

Don't get me wrong I would love to keep Gaither as well, but he isnt as important IMO.

Oh you don't have to tell me. I think Gaither might be the most important piece to return to the offense imo.

It was actually his 2nd year he excelled, his rookie year JO was still here. But you are correct. He actually has excelled whenever he's been on the field for us.

Although he didn't get the attention for it, 2008 might have been as dominant of a year, any LT has had. It was almost JO like.
