MERGED: General Reactions to the Reported Cuts

415 posts in this topic

I cant believe this. I wanted the Ravens cut all these players and their actually doing it. This just proves I need to be a GM for an NFL team.

- Start Dickson.. Backup Pitta.. Heap is getting old and always hurt
- Cut Mason to free up our rookie WRs..
Boldin
Smith
Hardy
Doss
Reed
Smith
-Gregg too old. Time for mountain cody to get his PT
-Mcgahee. Hes good but overpaid for a backup RB. Rookie Anthony Allen can take his place.

I really think this mad us not only younger but better.

I'm going to have to see what Ozzie and the front office pull off this off season but with all these cuts...idk, i'm going to wait and see what they can get done, what our team finally looks like but I might be re-evaluating my expectations and keeping the expectations in check in case the Ravens take a step back this year.

The lower salary cap is making us make more changes than I thought we would...this could end up being a good thing, who knows, but losing Heap and Mason is going to make me question...what the team can accomplish, if Joe can create chemistry with a new offense basically...Heap was a go to guy in the Chiefs game, we won that game because of Heap...we have to replace that

We also won that Chiefs because of the defense, and Joe distributing the ball relatively well.

Part of me hopes Mase and Heap can return, but they're not irreplaceable either, even with their savvy, and familiarity with Joe.

I dont know about you guys but I seriously feel like we need a video montage for all of the released players. There are too many old favorites to not acknowledge somehow. C'mon, I know we have some amateur videographers who are willing to put together the best plays of Heap, Mason, Willis and company's Ravens careers.

We need to resign LeRon badly. Ray and himself compliment each other nicely. Mason and Gregg were good for our lockerroom, but sometimes you gotta cut those players to make way for new talent. Although Id like to see Mason for one more season to help Boldin tutor Smith.

WARRIOR

Just listened to him on WBAL, he sounded truthfully sad to hear the news about him leaving, said he loved the city of Baltimore and its fans. Really hope we sign him to a smaller 1 year deal so he can come back and get that elusive ring!

I think this is the team taking a step forward. Pricy vets that get paid more than they contribute can hold a team back. Ozzie has idenitified what players are important to move forward with and is taking the necessary steps to secure them. Cutting this many vets is a risk, but I think that a) some may re-sign for less money and B) we have young talented players that can fill in their roles on the team.

If Mason Doesn't Get A New Deal, What Do You Think The Ravens Will Do With The Wrs?

Trade for Steve Smith?
Sign Santonio Holmes?

What are your thoughts?

Or will we sign a WR even if Mason gets a new deal?

All older, generally overpaid players. Paid more than they would have contributed, more precisely. We could see Heap or Gregg - maybe Mason - come back but I think McGahee is all the way out.

The one good thing about these moves, we are clearing a lot of cap space so they could go out and sign another free agent WR with some speed...maybe e Santonio Holmes??

IDK...

If Mason is Cut , i am Beyond Outraged, you have no idea.

After all he has done for us, you guys (the ravens office) cant let the man finsh his career as a RAVEN.

Im guessing we are going after some Big names, im thinking we might go and get S. Holmes or more than likely S.Smith

Also Cutting Heap is messed up but i thought it was going to be next yr, i dont think our new Tightends have proven themselves yet.

Not happening. The guy hasn't been motivated since '07.

I wonder how Flacco feels about Mason not being there anymore....

I know what you mean. Think of all of those sideline comeback routes we've seen between the two. Great chemistry.

if we cut Mason and Heap we aint going nowhere this season
[/quote]

Because a WR who produced 1 catch in two play-off games, and an aging TE can't be replaced...

Nah, we'll be ok. I think this is more of a emotional reaction to 2 long time Ravens leaving. Both of their productivity can be replaced...just not the names.

he's just going to have to take his emotions out of it, look at it from a business point of view...its tough to lose these guys, we all loved em as Ravens.

life moves on, time stands still for no man...blah blah blah

I think everyone just needs to move away from the computers, phones, or whatever device you are logged in on.

What we all have to remember is that, this isn't a normal NFL Free Agency period. Things were perdicted to get real hectic once the lockout was lifted, and it's playing out as such.

Right now the Ravens were reported 5.5 under the Cap. Well because there will be no 72 hour window to resign your own players, the Ravens have to prepare to compete with 31 other teams for the services of manly Yanda and Ngata.

We can't just assume that those guys love playing in Baltimore so much that they'll take considerably less money to stay. So we will probably have to pay more for those guys then we were even prepared to.

Guys like Mason, Heap, Gregg and anyone else, getting cut are necessary evils right now. Now are we taking huge risk by allowing these guys to sit on the market unprotected? Of course.

However all those guys are in their last years and really close to retiring, so the chances of someone offering them big money, or even the type of money they made last year is highly unlikely.

This time will be unusual for the players, teams, and us fans. We just have to sit back and watch it all unfold. I'm sure if we dig deep enough, other teams who are in the same position as we are, are doing the same thing.

By Saturday I expect all of these guys, maybe even McGahee to be back on the team.

In a normal league year, all of these signs would be pointing to a guy like Nnamdi being on our radar for us to go after him hard, and i'm not saying that won't happen. But it's just an unsual time right now and usual things have to happen to accommodate these times.

So my advice is just sit back, and watch the whirlwind 2 weeks that about to take place, and hope it never has to happen again. But don't read too much into the names of guys getting cut.
