There's reports coming out (no link yet) that the Ravens will attempt to re-sign Heap and Mason to cheaper deals. This would explain why Todd Heap's reps say he won't make an official statement until the dust has settled on the whole situation.
Good to hear. I can see Heap returning, but I don't know Mason will want to. If not, I'll miss him, but so be it.

Clearly we are saving room to bring Brett Favre in.

I'm kind of surprised we haven't heard news from the other 31 teams, haha. Ozzie is living up to this years Raven's mantra...RELENTLESS

I think we're in great position to not just retain Ngata and Yanda, but Gaither as well. Gaither would be the biggest signing we could possibly make

Sidney Rice possible? Id take him over Steve Smith all day
Just heard on 105.7 The Fan that Sidney Rice was being eyed by the Ravens... umm, yes please!! Perfect complement to Boldin and Torrey Smith.

Sad to see D-Mase go, but he can come back at the minimum if he wants.

Totally agree. Gaither and Yanda coming back would be HUGE. Our O-line would be back to 2009-2010 form.

On a one year deal...yes Gaither would be alright but certainly not the biggest signing. I'm intrigued by a Reid/Harewood/Cousins competition in TC.

That exact thought crossed my mind.

I think your right
That will be the sign if we are going after Aso or not. If Foxworth stays, we could just try to keep Josh Wilson.

I think he's next regardless of if they want to go after Aso or not. He's a good player but is not worth what he's being paid.

Foxworth has to be next.

They need to restructure his contract. He's a good player but not worth the money he is getting IMO.

Nope. The Ravens are clearing up cap space to sign their boatload of valued free agents. Also, this cap space will allow the Ravens to attempt to get a long-term deal done with Haloti Ngata.
Right now Ngata is franchised meaning all his salary is for this year. Signing him to a long contract only helps the cap room for this year. These released players have nothing to do with signing Ngata and Yanda.

And why would Derrick Mason take less money to stay here? Wasn't he just unhappy about his contract a year or 2 ago?

The news that we're losing Heap made my jaw drop. But it says TONS about our intentions this FA season. While it definitely hurts, I'm excited to see what happens. I'm excited to FINALLY see our young guys get on the field. This means that players like David Reed and Ed Dickson have legitimate opportunities to contribute, something that wasn't viable with those vets sitting ahead of them on the depth chart. However, it is a good point that the young guns lose valuable sources of experience to learn from as they continue to develop.

And I'm even more excited to see what they do FA-wise. With so much cap ammunition, we are right in the thick of the Nnamdi hunt. Something I've been hoping for MONTHS. We went from offering him everything he wants except the contract, to possibly giving him more money to pry him away from the bigger spenders. If the Sidney Rice rumors are true, that could get interesting. Not to mention we have the money now to resign our own coveted guys.

Neg me if you want but I also think Foxworth is going to get a phone call that he's going to be released. It sucks because of his contributions to the new CBA and he's shown through the process that he's a standup guy, but if we're axing franchise players like Heap, Fox is definitely not safe.

I CANT WAIT to see the swath of destruction that will be in the wake of teams like the Jets and Steelers who are over the Cap.

I'm getting giddy boys, I'm starting to shake with excitement to see what the mighty powerful Oz has up his sleeve.

Foxy is only making $4.1M or so base salary. I dont think we can resign him for much less than that, so it's not really worth risking losing him to save a few $100k.Then again, no one will give him that much, and if he had equal contracts from here and elsewhere, I'm sure he'd choose to stay here. So maybe Fox could be next. If so, then Oz is straight up gangsta

He was due 6 million.

My big issue is that Mason is a great guy to teach the young guys how to run routes, i don't know if anyone else could teach them better.

EDIT: this is getting to the point where nnamdi isn't that unrealistic...
I said in another post , some teams have a specific assistant that deals in teaching route running Cut and offer it this way - play for alot less or Coach for more less then that!

Yanda isnt that great. His good, but I dont see us giving him that much money. Ngata is tagged, so we could work that out later in the season. There is definately someone Ozzie is aiming at. Were just not sure who it is. I hope its top tier guys that can address some serious issue we faced last year.

He's coveted for his versatility. He's a mauler at guard and can stand in at tackle if need be. The O-line is so dependent on continuity that having a guy who can play two spots is worth his weight in gold. Yanda is a priority if we're trying to stabilize our line and run game.

He is a great RG. He is an ok to solid RT. We need to keep him at RG. Without him at RG we cant run the ball as well

I really can't believe we're dropping Heap, he was the most surprising of that group. I love Mason, don't get me wrong, but his age has shown the last three seasons down the stretch and he's not the player he once was. We all knew Willis was going to be dropped, and Gregg's age has been hurting him as well. I think the dropping of Gregg signifies how much faith the team has in Cody and our young prospects along the d-line, and I hope they're right.

With this much cap space freed up, that means we're going for a big name tackle, like Clabo, or Asomugha. If we get Asomugha, a championship is guaranteed as long as we remain relatively healthy.

1. We didnt "drop" anyone. I am very confident that Mason and Heap will be resigned.
2. No single player guarantees a championship
3. Also means we're looking to sign our own
