Not Heeeeeeeeap! No!

The more I think about it, the more certain I feel that Heap won't be resigning. He's gonna get a better offer from some team, he's just too good of an all-around tight end to not get one. Add to that the bitterness of getting cut, and I don't think he'll be giving the Ravens any discounts.

When Heap is on the field he is great. And I think he is a valuable piece to this team. But he's had some injuries that have plagued him, and he still got those paychecks whether he was on the field or not. So since the front office overpaid for when he was off the field, then it shouldn't be too much of an insult to take a pay cut. Kind of like, we were loyal to you, time for you to be loyal to us. But people don't look at it like that.

Overall, I want Heap back. But for a decent price.
I would like to point out that Todd heap has missed 3 games due to injury in the past 3 years. Hardly someone who is plagued by injury like this board thinks. And considering how many times Boller/Flacco have left him out to dry on passes, I'm surprised he wasn't hurt more often.

I know i'm a heap fan and probably thus biased, but I just feel like he's done enough for this organization to warrant at least playing out his contract. Its only one more year. He deserves better than to just be cut after 10 years with this team and city, and if he has bad feelings towards the ravens for this, I certainly don't blame him.

I literally jumped, but I'm fairly certain he will be restructured... if not we BETTER SIGN NNAMDI!
Its not enough off the cap to sign Nnamdi, we would need another 10 mil cap off this years cap.

Losing Heap isn't that big of a loss. I don't recall him ever being healthy, and at this point in his career he's over the hill. His stats aren't that of a top tier TE, and the majority of the fans seem to overvalue him. I don't have a problem actually getting a look at what our young TEs have to offer, since Cam showed basically nothing last season.

we are already 18.5 mil under cap, signing ngata will free up a few more mil, 7.5 mil gone if foxy is cut, thats plenty of space

Missing only three games in three games doesn't mean he hasn't been plagued by injury. I'll never question the man's toughness, but we all saw him pull up lame running a route against the Steelers, and he collapsed against the Bills(likely still feeling the effects of the shots he took against the Pats). He looked noticeably slow in '08 and '09, and missed much of '07.

The team wants to win now. If they can use their freed up cap room to sign a better player, cutting a player like Heap is a necessary evil.

I understand why we cut him. I understand we need cap space. Todd Heap has done everything right in his 10 years as a Raven, including a fairly solid year last year (among the top 10 TE). He deserves better than just being cut in the last year of his contract. That's all im saying.

That kind of thinking will cause you to fall behind. You don't pay someone for loyalty or previous production that you were happy with. If the NFL had no cap, then yeah, maybe that plays a factor in your decisions. But with a salary cap, there's no room for sentimental decision making.

I was hoping to wake up and realize this was all a dream, but then the reality set in and now I see that it is a sad, sad day for us Ravens fans! Why, Heap? It won't be the same!!!!!

Dickson is going to be a great TE. He has all the tools to excel at his position. Watching him progress last year i believe he would be able to handle starting TE duties. Hes going to be a star for us for years to come, I tend to think ozzie sees a lot of himself in Ed.

Dennis Pitta as well is going to be a stand out for us in years to come, he may be behind Dickson in his progression though as an athlete. He was a favorite of mine when we drafted him. The guy has an incredible set of hands and is great at catching in traffic.

I wouldnt be totally shocked if we just re construct Heaps contract to for cap relief. It is a potential superbowl year and we need the veteran presence. But Oz knows more then we do and may think these 2nd year TEs can handle the work load.

Its goodwill. Future FA will think twice about signing with an organization who cuts its veteran players even though they're producing.

If that was really the case, FAs wouldn't ever sign with NFL teams. In fact, free agents would barely move around in professional sports.

I get the business end of these cuts, I do. But if cap space is the idea, I don't understand why Foxworth wasn't a casualty as well. Let's face it, the man is coming off a serious injury and has been out of the game for an entire season. His price tag is way too high. I know everyone says how great he is but I never saw "great" out of the man on any consistent basis. I'd be fine with re-signing Carr and Wilson and letting Foxworth walk.

I'm hoping that Heap re-signs. It will depend on whether or not he wants to retire a Raven because I have no doubt he will get offers from other teams.

Thanks for everything, man. You always gave everything you had on the field for us.

I'm holding out hope that we will resign him. I had NFL network on this morning and they had it scroll across the bottom that the Ravens hope to resign Mason, Heap and Gregg. I was totally crushed yesterday, today I have some hope I'm clinging to.

Haha, really. That's the nature of professional sports. Where would they go, D.C. or Oakland? Where a veteran can catch a pretty paycheck and not produce...

I'm so excited for the upcoming season. This is the year the Ravens finally get over the top and win the big one.

Unfortunately as my account is new I cannot start a new topic for this. We all know how important Heap is to our offence, not just as Flacco's security blanket pass catcher but also in blocking schemes. As much as I like Dickson, I feel much more confident with Heap lining up on the line.

I would like to believe the plan all along from Ozzie is to bring him back at a reduced rate.

It appears he has joined twitter and is looking for some input from the fans. Let's show him some Baltimore Ravens love and get him back on the team to help win the Super Bowl this year. We all know he would be a key piece in us making it all the way. It just won't feel as good without him there holding the Lombardi trophy. He's looking for us to reach out and let's show him again why we're the best and he needs to be a Raven.

(Someone make this a separate thread is possible) - We can make a difference and help bring back HEAPPPPP!!!!!

If you had started a new topic for that, we would have merged it into this one anyway. This is why new members can't start new threads.

Apparently cutting him would only free up about 1.2 million in cap space, that's enough to maybe pay a rookie or two, not someone to replace Foxworth during free agency.

Todd Heap is going to be cut! Why????
I thought the same thing about shannon sharp then he went to the ravens :D . I hope if Heap goes anywhere other than home to B-More its Denver so i can still watch him play every sunday, same goes for Willis Mase and Gregg. I was stoked when Bannon came out last year. My friends hated it cuz i would always talk about when he was withe the Ravens. Also loved seeing Mike Anderson in B-More. We will see, willis is the most probable imo which would be awesome. he would get 2 games to lay stiff arms on oakland dbs

Heap is without a doubt one of the best TE's in the league. I havent heard any rumors about him getting offers at all despite his high value. Could that be a sign that he might already be bound to return? just thinking and hoping.

I still hope that Todd will be back. I am sure that others teams will offer him more money and after all he has meant to the team as well as the city, you can't fault him if he does leave. Todd, we love you man and deep down inside I hope that still being a Raven is worth more than just more cash. Whatever you decide, all the best to you and your family! :baltimore-ravens:
