Wow. Mason and Heap to be cut. Wow. Flacco's 2 best friends getting released and people thought this was going to be the year Joe was going to take the next step. LOL. Guess not, Good luck Joe.

To be resigned at lesser contracts, more than likely

Well folks, one player that was synonimous with the Ravens is now cut. Sad day indeed, but hopefully with some pain we see some gain in free agency...

Well hopefully Joe finds other targets to throw to now. Keep in mind, Boldin now has one additional year under him and Rice is very comfortable for Joe to throw to also...

I literally jumped, but I'm fairly certain he will be restructured... if not we BETTER SIGN NNAMDI!
Agreed, with all of these upsetting releases, there better be enough cap room to sign some grade A players.

I believe Heap and Mason will be back but if not then I will miss Todd and Derrick greatly! I understand the person who said they're nearly in tears because these are guys that we have watched and loved for years! If Todd doesn't come back, than this play will always stick out to me.

Please bring back Heeeeaaaaaaaap!

I can't believe they let Heap go ? He's still a dangerous weapon. I don't know if that was a wise decision... So when did Jerry Jones purchase the Ravens ?

I can understand the Gregg and McGahee moves, even to a certain extent the Mason move. But Heap? Just kind of stings much like losing Jamal Lewis those years ago, watch a guy since he was a rookie, loved the way they played and how tough they were and then are released. I sincerely hope Heap is brought back at a lesser contract, he was our entire offense in KC this year in the wild card game.

I don't believe that they won't bring either Heap or Mason, likely both, back on cheaper deals. I think the Heap move was a wise business decision as $4.6M is a lot of money to be saved, especially when there are a lot of players that we need to re-sign with that money. Some are more important to the team and so they would be a bigger loss.

Mason's a similar decision. As far as I'm aware, he was due a lot of money and, frankly, we needed to spend that money elsewhere. I think he'll come back. I hope so anyway.

If it's 4.6 then it's a smart move. Dickson is a guy with quite a bit of potential in the passing game, and I suppose Pitta has a chance to be a good one as well.
Neither can block like Heap, so I hope we resign him to a one year deal less money to give Dickson and Pitta another year to mature in the NFL and let Heap retire a Raven.

Heap, Mason, Gregg, McGahee all be cut to free up Cap Space =

Ravens Are Going after Nnamdi!

If we are able to sign Aso and bring back Heap and Mason cheaper, along with Yanda and Gaither I'll be happy!

lol I guess you and the rest of us would be very very happy .

Why would Heap come back? This is a slap in the face to the man. If it is a move to restructure, couldn't that have been a conversation?? Did it have to be like this? That man gave everything he had on the field, always. Same with Mason. This is not the way to do this to these two players.
Shouldn't let your emotions get invloved in it its a bussiness to the players and owners we fans get to attached to players me included. But if the Ravens are going to continue their winning ways changes must be made sometimes painful but nessisary.

Everyone around here who is screaming for Namdi or Steve Smith should not begrudge this. I'm a Todd Heap fan myself but this was a money issue. The 120 million cap is going to force alot of teams to make cuts they don't want to make. He can always come back at a more cap friendly price. Now that was have freed up 18 million+ we can have a good shot at resigning Yanda and Haloti to long term deals and add some pieces to our puzzle.

I would be very suprised if Todd Heap comes back. Todd will be able to test the market and their are several teams in need of a pro-bowl TE. The obvious choice would be the Cardinals (currently at $37 million and would need to spend anyway to reach the minimum) They have never had a top notch TE, and should easily offer over $5 million/year. I would say Heap would give the Ravens a hometown discount but his hometown is in Mesa, Arizona.

In Ozzie we trust.

The Cardinals have never been big on using TEs. Heap would do even more blocking there than he ever did here. I don't know why they would give him $5 million for that.

I don't know why Heap is so mad. I mean we overpaid for him when he was sitting on the sideline hurt. Time for him to give us a better discount on his talents

I like Dickson and Pitta a lot and I think both have great potential, but I don't trust either one of them as our starter YET. Pitta didn't get on the field much in the latter part of the season due to that concussion, but nothing I saw from Dickson in a blocking sense last year inspired me at all. I know he is a sort of "hybrid" TE/WR and he did have the one nice TD last year that demonstrates his ability in the passing game, just nowhere near a complete TE yet. We need Todd or another veteran TE who can pass block, period. It woon't be as big of a deal if our o-line is better than last year's but that remains to be seen as well. We will be fine without Gregg and Mase and I understand the moves we are going to have to make, but I personally think we need Todd back. We'll see what happens later in the week I guess.

When Heap is on the field he is great. And I think he is a valuable piece to this team. But he's had some injuries that have plagued him, and he still got those paychecks whether he was on the field or not. So since the front office overpaid for when he was off the field, then it shouldn't be too much of an insult to take a pay cut. Kind of like, we were loyal to you, time for you to be loyal to us. But people don't look at it like that.

Overall, I want Heap back. But for a decent price.

I'm sure we will resign him. If not, Dickson actually played pretty good for a rookie last year and is only going to get better. He's not on a Todd Heap level (yet) but I trust he will eventually. Obviously I want Heap to stay a Raven very much but if he isn't, it is what it is. It will only make Ozzie drafting 2 young talented TEs in last year's draft back to back look even more genius.

That still doesnt explain why "Heap is so mad" as you put it. Where does it say he's mad over this cut?

Cardinals have drafted 3 TEs in the last 5 years and are still in need of a stud to be an every down player (Block and catch). With the greatest show on turf (supposedly) coming to town in Air Kolb, they would obviously like to smooth his transition by giving him some weapons. But never the less, the league has seen how valuable a veteran pro-bowl TE can be for a team. (Example - Tony Gonzalez to Alanta)

Two of those players were drafted in the 7th round and the most successful one - Leonard Pope - never caught more than 23 passes in a year. The Cards have had opportunities to either draft or sign TEs but they've passed. Seemingly, they're content to have the tight ends mostly block.

Most of this news caught me off guard this morning. None more then Todd Heap. There were all kinds of rumors floating around, but never for a second did I think Heap would end up on the cut list. I'm totally broken hearted and praying they resign him. It just won't be the same without him.
