Raiders traded Randy Moss to the Patriots

25 posts in this topic

NFL Network just broke the news that Randy Moss is going to the Patriots for a 4th round pick today. How is Wes Welker worth a 2nd & 7th while Moss gets only a 4th? He isn't that old, is he? The Pats are a dangerous team as long as they keep Moss's attitude in check. Thoughts?

Geez...did Daniel Snyder buy the Patriots while no one was looking?

They are really loading up with some big name vets this year...although I'm sure they will be more successful than Washington.

Maybe the Colts should start looking forward to that Patriot monkey climbing onto their backs again.

It was a good trade for the Patriots, Moss is only 30 I believe and will really help them at the receiver spot. I am sure Moss is loving this to.

Although the Patriots are a scary-looking team on paper right now, I think it'll come down to the parity of the schedule/opponents, and the chemistry of the team on both sides of the ball.

New England has so many new faces on that team that it's improbable for them to all be on the same page by the start of preseason. However, the Saints proved that overhauling a roster doesn't necessarily mean a rebuilding period is in the works. In the case of the Patriots, they're not necessarily rebuilding, but upgrading.

However, that doesn't guarantee that the cohesiveness of this team, as seen in the past, will be academic. Washington has gone on countless spending sprees and has nothing to show for it. But, the key difference between Daniel Snyder's team and Robert Kraft's team is that the Patriots managed to not only spend well but also draft well.

With that said, as skillful as New England has been in playing what I call the "game before the game" this offseason, again, that doesn't eliminate the fact that team chemistry is still in question.

In addition, injuries could also play a factor, as they did two years ago, when that team was decimated, top-to-bottom. Bill Belichick has taken every precaution possible to circumvent a repeat of such events, but there's no accounting for the unpredictable.

Why do the Pats keep picking up WR's?

Spreading that going to be explosive offence out with Brady as QB eeeek there going to be hella tuff to beat

All I'm saying is, with Randy Moss, Dante Stallworth, Kelley Washington, Wes Welker, Troy Brown (assuming he comes back), Reche Caldwell, Jabar Gaffney, Chad Jackson, Jonathan Smith, Kelvin Kight, and Bam Childress all on the same roster, in addition to tight ends Ben Watson, David Thomas, Kyle Brady, and Garrett Mills, there's an awful lot of targets for Tom Brady to throw to and make into Pro Bowlers (or vice versa)...

...and that's not including any random linebackers and offensive linemen that Bill Belichick may choose to randomly give the ball to... :P

But yes...we shouldn't take New England lightly when we play them next season in prime time, especially since it's on national television...

the Patriots have made so many moves this offseason, i'm still frustrated about the Adalius Thomas stuff...they're gonna be good this season.

Go Ravens!!!

Oh don't even get me started on AD.

But as for Moss we Ravens fans can only hope that the whole situation will rear up and bite the Pats in the butt

no pun intended. :)

I also think a key difference is that the Patriots as a whole are one of the best run organizations in the NFL, from top to bottom. Their owner leaves it to his football people to make the decisions. Bellichick doesn't take any nonsense and instills a grit and character within the team that has so far squashed the possibility of any one player being bigger than the team.

The test will be whether Moss can be incorporated into the Patriots' scheme as well as other, less high profile players.

Personally I think he can, and the fact he has the best QB in football throwing him the rock won't hurt. A happy Moss is a non-disruptive Moss. New England scare me for this season - unlike the Redskins I can't see them screwing up with the talent on their roster.

See, I wouldn't be surprised if the Patriots are forced to cut one of their many receivers, though.

To recap, their receiving corps is currently comprised of:

Randy Moss

Donte Stallworth

Kelley Washington

Wes Welker

Bam Childress

Reche Caldwell

Jabar Gaffney

Chad Jackson

Jonathan Smith

Kelvin Kight

That's not to mention the (slim) possibility of Troy Brown being re-signed from the free agent market for loyalty purposes.

We all know that receiving corps will be trimmed in half, guaranteed. And if you subtract the likeliest candidates to get cut, their receiving corps is starting to look like:

Randy Moss

Donte Stallworth

Kelley Washington

Wes Welker (for return specialist duties, mainly)

Chad Jackson (first round draft pick, so not likely he'll be on the practice squad)

And there's also the outside chance that Reche Caldwell or Jabar Gaffney might be retained to take the load off of Wes Welker having to pull double-duty.

Still a scary lineup...and that's not including the tight ends and the running backs and pass-catching linemen/linebackers...

That makes me mad, I don't think that one team should be able to pick up so much talent.

What ever happened to Cap Penalty, do the Patriots not require a cap penalty?

-Especially with them having so many winning seasons.
