After reading this I got to wondering. Is it the NFL's responsibility to warn players that concussions can be dangerous/damaging/harmful etc? Basically is the NFL legally liable at all? Maybe it's liable from a moral standpoint, and even if it's not the NFL's responsibility, then who's shoulders would this fall upon?

Personally I don't think it's rocket science that blows to the head are a bad thing. I remember being taught such in elementary school, and my parents were always wary of my safety/health. I know as a parent that I am always protecting my kids, warning them about playing too roughly, and how to play safely, etc etc.

Yet even with that being said it's hard to be harsh on the players. If the NFL downplayed the long term effects of concussions, then the same could be said if cigarettes didn't have a warning on them for pregnant women. The NFL is all about promoting itself and with good reason. So why bare all and show the ugly dark truth behind all of our amusement as a mob?

I can say as a former player, that the worst feeling in the world is watching a player lay on the field after being knocked out. Yet it's like a train wreck in that nobody can look away. Do we really need to see someone die on the field to start to have a change of heart or to make a difference?

I honestly thought Willis McGahee was dead when Ryan Clark hit in in the AFCCG. He launched himself, maybe not head first but I truly thought he knocked the life out of him

Current players think the NFL is making too big a deal out of concussions and now former players think they were making too little a deal out of it? Go figure... Concussions are serious business, the old guys should know better than anyone.

Because it's such a natural part of the game, I don't think that the NFL should be held responsible. It's not as though they are promoting the idea that players should go out there and try to hurt each other. I don't think that you could ever fully erase the risk of concussion without completely changing the game. Even so, I think the NFL are trying reasonably hard to do so, implementing those new rules which didn't go down well at the time but if you look at it logically they are only trying to keep the players best interests at heart.

The NFL should not be held responsible for concussion, for like it was point out above, are a natural part of the game. They are making millions of dollars to play a childs game, expect what comes with it, the good and the bad.
