(Merged) Peyton Manning Underwent Third Neck Surgery

150 posts in this topic

I like how everyone was saying how great of a guy Manning was, for him taking "Less Money".... LOL. Well, he may have the best poker face in history. The Colts didn't even perform a physical after the KNEW his kneck MIGHT be an issue. I laugh at Bill Polian and Irsay! Polian is soo widely regarded as a great GM, the problem is,... It's all being wadged on Manning. Manning has essentially carried this team. Polian, Caldwell and any other coach on this team should realize Manning IS THE TEAM. It was poor planning on Polians side to NOT have a guy ready to go for when this happened (Belichick had Cassel prepared).

So have they announced about how long Manning will be out? Will he be ready to play by the time our game against them comes around??
2-3 months. If he came back, it could very well be in the Colts-Ravens game, but that is highly doubtful.

A man....ANY man.....would have to be insane to make a Ravens game their first game back after surgery.

Yeah, but that sounds a little overconfident. Hes going through multiple surgeries. He isnt always healthy, and lets face it, Manning has been slowing down over the last two or three years. He is a lock in HOF but I dont think he has a lot left in him.

He may have some more in him. The surgery will fix up his neck, and a year off from football can work miracles. That'll add more life to his body. Football creates a lot of stress on the body, and a year off will do a world of good for him. I hope that's the case, I want Joe to beat him.

This is the same 60-odd-year-old that said "i jus' be droppin' knowledge" on twitter.

As for playing Collins over Painter being an attempt to tank...Curtis Painter has a career passer rating of 9.8. That's right, Nine point Eight.

According to Jim Irsay on a radio interview this morning, Peyton Manning will miss the entire season.

No surprises there. http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/1493/peyton-manning

has he been hanging out on the side lines ?

I am sure he could be a wealth of support and information to his back ups.

This is just pure speculation so take it for what it is until Manning actually retires. Yes there are rumors going around that Peyton Manning may end up retiring from the NFL after this season. According to Fox Sports Chris Myers, he says there is a better than 50% chance that Manning hangs it up at the end of the season and calls it quits.

This is just all rumor and speculation but this doesn't surprise me that Peyton Manning may end up retiring, in fact I feared it would be the case. It would be such a shame to see Peyton's career end too soon. I know he is 35 but he probably had a good few years left in him without having neck issues but with neck issues he probably would be better off retiring and not playing another down.

But if we beat the Colts, with or without Peyton... we have nothing to worry about.

K-Dog was saying that he'd rather beat the Colts WITH Peyton, as opposed to WITHOUT Peyton. I agree with him. Thats what I meant to say.

So do you guys think that Peyton Manning really could retire at the end of this season and that last year was the last we will have seen of Peyton Manning ever stepping back on to a NFL Field ever again? I really think Peyton could retire and that Andrew Luck will be starting for the Colts as a Rookie.

It's a shame to see any sports career end due to injury and not on the terms of the player. One thing we know is if the playoff game last season against the Jets was the last time Peyton will ever be strapping on a helmet, Manning's had a great career and should have won more rings than just one. It truly will be a end of an era in Indy... Goodbye Manning, and Hello Luck.

I doubt it. He's a fierce competitor, and as soft as he is, and as much as I hate him, he's a competitor. He wants to win. He wants to play. I highly doubt that he retires.

I think Peyton loves the game too much and is too competetive to call it quits. If he is cleared to play I cant imagine him retiring. It would be a shame if he wasnt healthy enough to play anymore. Colts still have to take Luck though no matter what.

The funny thing about the Colts is they suck and one QB shouldn't be the difference but they'll draft one with the first pick.

This is interesting news...... maybe Manning and Luck won't become the next Favre/Rodgers. According to Adam Schefter, the sense around the league is that Peyton may "demand" a trade if the Colts Draft Andrew Luck. Schefter also believes that the Colts and Peyton could move back the March 8th deadline to pay Manning his $28 Million option bonus to have more time to trade Peyton.

Luck meanwhile is pretty much playing his part well by saying "learning under a veteran QB would be a positive."

http://rotoworld.com...olts-draft-luck

Can anyone Imagine Peyton Manning in any other uniform that is not a Colts Uniform? I'm sure the Colts don't want to see Peyton play elsewhere and not retire a Colt, but would trading Peyton be worth it and going with a hot shot rookie instead of keeping Peyton and giving him someone like a Justin Blackmon in the first round and getting some defensive help in the later rounds to help Peyton try to win one more Super Bowl before he retires.

Though I think Peyton's chances of retiring is pretty high, I think he is smart enough to not put himself back in position to further damage his neck by playing Football again.

If the rumors of Peyton whining about the possibility of sharing the roster with Luck are true, it's surprising. He saw what Curtis Painter and Kerry Collins did out there...

In any case, I think there's a good chance the Colts shop that first pick - it'd be a lot easier with the rookie salary cap now in place.

But maybe that's because he knows Collins, Painter, Orlovsky, etc. aren't a threat to his job security, and Luck might be. I don't know Peyton personally, but we saw what Brett Favre thought of Aaron Rodgers and the way he treated Rodgers and the Packers before and after he left. It seems like Favre wanted the Packers to wait until HE gave them permission to draft a qb (which probably would have been after he'd been retired for 5 years and the Packers finished under .500 all 5 years, knowing his ego).

There are a lot of things not to like about Tom Brady, but one thing I do like about him is that he seems to have no ego when it comes to helping his own teammates. He really understands that making everyone around him better will only help his success. The same cannot be said for Favre, and the way these guys replacing Manning are playing, only 2 conclusions could be drawn: 1) the Colts are an absolute train-wreck of a team offensively and defensively, and Peyton Manning is so ridiculously good that he took that team to a Superbowl appearance and a playoff birth the last 2 years, or 2) Manning didn't care enough to really teach these guys the offensive scheme (though Painter was the only guy there before this lockout shortened offseason, which could have had an effect).

Maybe it's because I don't like the Colts, but I would completely agree if Manning doesn't want to be there with Luck. In his whole career, the Colts have drafted next to no one to help Peyton win a Super Bowl. He's had to do it all himself. And now they have a perfect chance to draft someone to impact the team, and it's... his replacement? Peyton knows he has more good years left in him and he wants to win now. If I were him I would be pissed off.

Think of it this way: If you were great at your job, how would you feel if you never got the right equipment to work with your entire time there? And how would you feel if your boss told you you'd be laid off right after you train your replacement?
