(Merged) Peyton Manning Underwent Third Neck Surgery

Now Baltimore may finally beat the Colts for the first time in more than a decade.

I wonder if this might be the end of an era. It's probably too soon to say something like that though; this hasn't been confirmed, of course...

Oh I know... I drafted him in another league on ESPN but thankfully I drafted Matt Ryan as my starter, and there goes the trade I was going to do by trading Manning for a WR(in the ESPN league) down the drain.

Is it too soon to say Andrew Luck?

:) I don't think they'll be THAT bad, but their playoffs chances just died. Houston will finally make the playoffs...

And Gary Kubiak is the happiest person in Texas.

I want the Ravens to beat the Colts with him playing--a genuine win, no "The Ravens only beat the Colts because they didn't have Peyton playing" disclaimers.

Who cares what people say? At the end of the season there won't be a Peyton-didn't-play asterisk any more than there was an Ed-Reed-was-on-the-Pup-list asterisk last year. A win is a win, and a win against the Colts or any other team gets the Ravens one step closer to the playoffs.

Now that I think about it, even if he does play and the Ravens win, people can just say "He was coming off of surgery and he's thirty-whatever years old. You didn't beat him in his prime."

I know each poster has a green (up arrow) limit / day... but I wish we were able to +1 to a post more than once on one individual post.

If so, I'd use all my +1's on the point you made.

I want us to beat Peyton + the Colts. Let him walk up & down the line all he wants before the snap, and watch Pernell run up his sack numbers.

I understand a win is a win and the end result. However, it's a bigger sense of accomplishment when you beat a team with their starting QB playing versus their #2 or #3.

Apparently Colts President knows nothing about this report of another surgery. NFL just reported.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d821f7155/article/colts-polian-knows-nothing-about-report-on-manning-surgery

This could be another rumor run wild situation.

If Manning misses the season that might be the biggest league shake-up since Tom Brady tore his ACL. A small part off me hopes that Collins performs resonably well in order to eliminate the arguement that Brady isn't as good as Manning because the 2008 Patriots won alot of games. The rest of me does not care.

Might this be the year that Texans finally stop being the only American professional team (from the big 4) to never make the playoffs?
I'm not positive that they are the only one, but it's what I've heard.

I wish someone would confirm whether this is true or not. I'm not trying to give myself any type of plug because of me being a NFL Writer but one of the teams I cover is the Colts and I'm debating whether or not if I should write a article about this or not, because I'm not going to run with something that is just a rumor. Someone hurry up and confirm this.

So.... does that mean the league would create a new rule eliminating Neck Surgery since this involved Peyton Manning?

Well you might have to wait a while. I have a feeling its a false rumor. Until I see somebody credible talking about it, I'll believe it. I have seen a lot of people talking about it, but nobody worth mentioning.

That seems far from the rumors that he requires a 2nd surgery and will be out for the year. What I grasp from all this is that he won't be playing week 1 and maybe week 2 as of right now.

Agreed. Polian said, when asked, "honestly, it's the first I've heard of it."

It might be true... teams (like the Pats and Belicheck) are loath to release this info until they have to file the "official" injury reports, and they might be trying to force the Texans to gameplan for Manning and Colllins...

But I'll believe it when it's officially announed.

Who knows what will happen but why would a Talk Show host say something like this knowing it's not true, and if it was true why couldn't he tell us who his sources were. Sounds like he just wanted to cause a stir for absolutely nothing.

Good Point. Since it seems Kerry Collins would be starting I decided to look at the first part of the Colts Schedule until their bye week which is in Week 11, and well it's kinda in the middle in terms of being weak and being good.

Week 1: @ Texans
Week 2: Vs Browns
Week 3: Vs Steelers(Sunday Night Football)
Week 4: @ Tampa Bay(Monday Night Football)
Week 5: vs Chiefs
Week 6: @ Bengals
Week 7: @ Saints(Sunday Night Football)
Week 8: @ Titans
Week 9: vs Falcons
Week 10: vs Jacksonville
Week 11: BYE

I could see a reasonable goal being set for the 3rd week. Texans will be tough to win even if Manning were to play. They could probably work through the Browns. But that Steelers game at home would be huge. If Manning is out the first two games and they lose, they couldn't afford to lose the 3rd AFC game.

It sucks that we don't play them until late. Its a conspiracy. The Steelers get to play them in week 3!

Ok now your starting to sound like R-Truth and blaming everything on some conspiracy. Yeah they play them in week 3 but the Steelers travel to Indy and the Colts come to Baltimore in Week 14... so no conspiracy there. Overall that is a weak schedule somewhat other than Saints, Falcons, Texans and Steelers.

Oh I know he was.... but I just wanted to point that out.

Just read this on PFT:

Mort is reporting that a second neck surgery has not been performed or is planned.... "as of now." Manning is getting multiple opinions and still waiting on answers. Mort later said that his slow recovery could be because of scar tissue trapping the nerves but the doctors won't confirm it.

Yep. I am the least likely to ever suggest any type of NFL conspiracy theory. But I wouldn't be surprised if some people are serious that Manning missing time is a conspiracy to help the Steelers in Week 3.

Twitter is exploding right now. Its on Colts forums too, with different sources.

Its stemmed from ESPN Radio 1070 Indianapolis , kind of like 105.7 the fan here.

Lets wait for others to start to report it
Why wait??? When you already want to link this------

"The Colts originally thought Kerry Collins would play a game or two in place of Manning. That's no longer the case. "I can tell you the coaches are preparing for a longer period of life without Manning," writes Freeman. "They are hoping for the best but now fearing the worst." According to SI.com's Peter King, Manning is also dealing with a sore back. It's time to lower expectations for Reggie Wayne, Austin Collie, Pierre Garcon, and Dallas Clark. Kerry Collins is now on the radar as a low-end QB2."

So where in that link that you posted, does it say that Manning is going to be out for the season or any length of serious time??? So twitter is exploding off this garbage that you linked that doesn't clarify anything what so ever to this mans season??

Well, if Peyton's back for our game, they'll have a great chance to beat us. The Colts are another team we can't figure out.
