Boller Placed On Ir

32 posts in this topic

Kyle Boller has been placed on IR, thus ending his 2008 campaign... not only that, but he will be an unrestricted Free Agent following this season, and with Joe Flacco and Troy Smith already in the fold for years to come, it seems as if the Kyle Boller experiment may finally have come to an end. All I want to say is: Thank you, Kyle, for always being tough and thick-skinned and giving us everything you had. Best wishes for your future, even if that means you don another uniform.

Boller may not have proven himself as a starter, I think it is up to him where his journey ends. I hope we can find a starter and able to keep Boller further in the depth chart for his loyalty.

I was hoping that this wouldn't happen, even though I knew it would. I was really hoping to see Boller under the new offense so that I could see if he really has the potential that I thought he did. But, with this move, I fear we will never see Kyle Boller in a Ravens uniform again. I hope that if he does leave the Ravens that he can go to another team and compete for a start. I'm sure even those who thought he needed to be released a long time ago would like to see him do well somewhere else. Although I might not be in the majority, I view this as a sad day for Baltimore.

I view it as a sad day as well. I feel that Boller was put into an offense that really didnt give him that great of an opportunity to succeed and everytime he began to show why he was a 1st round pick it seems he would get hurt. Regardless of what you think of Boller as a player I think we can all agree he is a class act person and handled everything he went through in Baltimore very well. I am not 100% sure this is the end for him tho in Baltimore because we need 3 qbs. If Flacco is the future I don't see a better back up to have than Kyle. If he does go somewhere else I wish him the best of luck.

A player on "your" team goes down with a season ending injury and you cheer. Classy dude... classy!

Apparently the comment I was quoting was removed...

I'm sorry but thank GOD he's out of the picture. Im pretty sure he wont be a Raven next year and that's a relief because all he is, is a waste of money and a spot on our roster. Bye Boller!

Whoever posted the YEEEAAAAAHHHHHHH is messed up. Boller is also a person too man. Though a lot of times I was mad a Boller for his decision making and other stuff. I can never hate him because hes a RAVEN. SIZZLE4PRESIDENT is right as well. When Kyle showed great promise of being our Franchise QB he always go injured. I hope he stays with us though. He never complained when the OL broke down and also when he took hard hits. Hes my favorite QB for our Ravens. Hopefully he gets better and stays with the team.

Great character, even when the crowd was booing I know they were cheering him. Love and disappointment is what the crowd showed but one thing you can't be disappointed by is his respect for the team and absorption of controversy.

agreed, One should not cheer and Clap when a fellow Teammate goes down to Injury, thats just bad sportsmanship. But lets not all focus on this injury as par say... being a bad thing. In Other words, this is sort of like a Call of action, a Call of Duty if you will. One to which Team Head Quarter's is Calling upon their new, Young, and most of all, Talented Quarterbacks to Take the helm and drive us with full force into Battle.

This is sort of a Mixed Blessing in different ways, its bad to see a fellow Teammate go down with such an Injury resulting in him being put on IR, and thus putting his Further Future in Baltimore as a Raven listed as "highly un-likely" but in other ways it prompts a new call of action, a call in which the younger Talent on the Team, most notable at Quaterback, to Step up and Fill in and Play with such energy and such force, will and Drive that one could only imagine why we hadnt did this sooner.

I think that this is the situation we all are seeing/experiencing in Baltimore right now with Quarterback Race now officially between that of Flacco and Troy, this is a Chance for them to showcase what they really have, showcase why the Ravens Drafted them and Showcase abilities as to make a bold statement as to "why i should remain a Baltimore Raven". I feel that he Future is certainly bright with energy and Thrill with Flacco as well as Smith, But it will be up to them (based more on on an individualistic basis) that will end up being the Final Deciding Factor.

Team has seen enough of Boller to know what he's all about, the Team now has seen enough of Flacco to name him the "Week 1 Starter" but the Team has re-itterated the fact that They want to see Troy and they want to see what Troy can Really do out there. Surely towards the end of the Season last year, all eyes were on Troy and all hopes for the future were in his hands and what did he do? he delivered, passing for over 400 yards, and rushing for a TD as well as Passing for a TD, his first TD and most importantly, no turnovers. That was last season and was the past, that was what really got everyone excited about the Future for Baltimore, there was no mention nor even a Hint at Flacco, just Troy and what he could bring to us. So i say again, before we Start jumping ship to the U.S.S. Flacco, Lets all get a good look at this Little Boy of a playmaker named Troy. lets see what he has to offer us. lets see what he can bring us.

Let's See, lets all just see.

It was me. and yeah im pleased

I didn't want him on "my" I see it as cleanin up the garbage on "my team" as I stated in the deleted message he's a tough guy and a great team mate of course you ingnored that as expected. I no longer believed he deserved to be on this team if he played i would hope he did well enough fo us to win but I also hoped he would NEVER play for us again. THAT's REAL

It wasn't the injury that I cheered it was the fact that he will not be playing this season.

From the Baltimore Sun:

Opinion: With Boller out, Ravens lose their best QB

I know that many Ravens fans will not agree but it is my belief that when Kyle Boller was placed on injured reserve today with a shoulder injury that the Ravens lost their best current quarterback and probably any chance -- albeit a mighty slim one -- to contend for the playoffs.

Before the Joe Flacco or Troy Smith supporters start firing away, let me say that I have substantial regard for the rookie from Delaware. His intelligence, arm strength and quiet determination may make him an outstanding NFL quarterback. There is no rush to that judgment here one way or the other. And Troy Smith deserves a reasonable chance to prove himself.

However, before Boller got hurt, he was possessed of enormous arm strength, a great deal of courage and and the experience of 42 NFL starts during which he occasionally flashed brilliant and often operated competently. And, yes, I know he also occasionally played as if he were wearing rolling skates. But on a depth chart that originally included Boller, Troy Smith and Flacco, if you took all the components of talent, experience and the sheer ability to throw the football through a small defensive window, Boller was clearly the best guy right now.

That's all gone. And for Boller and the Ravens, it's probably gone for good. He is in the last year of a contract extension and one would think that in seven months or so when free agency rolls around, assuming his injury situation is resolved favorably, Boller will look fairly attractive to some other NFL franchise on the hunt for a quarterback. After all, if Todd Bouman can land on an NFL roster (he's been signed by the Ravens), one would think Boller will be a hot item on the open market.

So in whatever quarterback controversy that awaits the Ravens for 2008, this much is certain -- for the first time in several years, Kyle Boller will not be part of the debate.

Ok, but you don't think that maybe you could be a more compassionate and less visceral? There was no need for the cheer. Perhaps you could have said something like:

Don't get me wrong, throughout Boller's career with us, I have been on his case. But I will miss him.

He has been a big part of what the Ravens have been, both good and negative. He will be part of Ravens history forever! Maybe we haven't seen the last of him, maybe we have. Either way I hope the best for him.

It's just awkard knowing that we will not be seeing any Boller this year on the field. He has been on the field every year for a while now.

Okay realisticly I smirked a little but it was only because i don't want him playing
as bad as the boller injury is, it opened up an opportunity for both smith and flacco. but i do hope the best for boller's injury, as he is a member of the ravens.

I appreciate him being tough and all that, but I honestly never felt he was going to be a solid QB, just waaaay toooo inconsistent. Face it, he doesn't have what it takes to be an NFL QB and probably never will be for whatever team he ends up with.

Apparently, Boller is going to be a "hot commodity" in the Free Agent QB market next year... I am curious to see where he ends up and whether or not he just needed a change of scenery.

It is a sad day indeed.

I wish that I could apologize to Boller. I agree that he was never really given the opportunity to succeed. He was put into a losing situation and expected to work a miracle. I've never wanted to see that Ravens lose, but I almost wish that Boller signs with another team and then comes back and kicks our butt. I know that I'm probably going to get flamed for saying that, but I think that it would teach alot of these stupid "fans" a lesson.

I was at the Minnesota game. When Boller was hit hard and sacked, the entire crowd boo-ed Boller. I was pissed at and embarrassed for Baltimore fans. I cannot stand that. It's an utter lack of class and appreciation for the game. It reminds me of the 2005 season opener. In that game, the crowd was actually cheering as Boller was lying on the ground writhing in pain. Disgusting.

If anything has ever made me ashamed to be a Baltimore Ravens fan, it's the way that the fans and the organization have treated Boller.

What was Odine drinking when he wrote this load. The Kyle Boller Experiment was over by his 4th year when the $$21 million dollar vunderkind could not statistically beat out his journeyman backup, Wright. The handwriting was already on the wall when the Ravens pursued and signed Steve McNair who took the same O personel Boller had worked with to a 13-4 year. The straw that broke the camel's back was Boller's inability to nail down the starter's job against a second year QB and a rookie project despite 7 years of NFL experience. No tears for Kyle Boller, he never earned his Ravens' jersey.
I agree with you on all of the above man. What kinda fanbase that calls themselves a fanatic cheer when someone on their team gets injured. I too am sorry for always being angry and not thinking about what kinda situation Boller was put in. Expected to work miracles when the main thing you need is never there. I hope he does win a game against us as well if he joins another team. (Yeah I said it)

I am probablly one of a who have stood by kyle from the beginning. he has thick skin and has delt with horriable things sadly alot from ravens fans. I am seriously sad that this has happened to him. He was always willing and eager to go out behind an O-line he couldnt fully trust. Im not so sure if he'll be back next season but I'm sure a few of us could be suprised. I think john harbaugh has respect for him and so does Cam.. They might give him one more shot next season to see what he's got. After all he's done in baltimore I think he at least deserves that..
