Steelers Just Won't Shut Up.

Apparently, his exchange with Ray Rice over the weekend wasn't enough. Steelers safety Ryan Clark had this to say, among other things, on a Pittsburgh radio show today:

I can't wait for Week 1.
Did he say something that wasn't true?

Although, I do think it's more of a rivalry than he does and fans DO contribute to these things IMO.

Claiming a series can only be considered a rivalry if two teams win equally isn't true, especially not with how close and intense Ravens-Steelers games have been the past three seasons.

I see what you're saying about the games being close, but I also see what Clark is saying in that the Ravens haven't won near enough of them and none of the big ones. IMO you're both kind of right and you're both kind of wrong.

Now, if there were to groups formed: One who say it's a true rivalry and one who say it is not, you and I would both be in the latter.

As it's been said, the games are always close, and the feeling of a Baltimore/Pittsburgh game is vastly different than that of a game between Baltimore or Pittsburgh and any other team. Just because Pittsburgh's ended up winning more games doesn't mean that the series isn't competitive. As a Baltimore fan in Pittsburgh, I'm very aware of the hatred Steeler fans have for Raven fans. Sure, it may be a fan thing, but there's a reason there's a mutual... "dislike" between fans of both teams.

Exactly.

I like what someone on Pro Football Talk had to say:
Man I can’t stand that argument… every SINGLE game is amazing. It’s not like the Ravens get blown out. And a few of those Steeler victories came off of ticky-tacky, or at LEAST very CLOSE, calls.

I can NOT stand when one team goes “Scoreboard.” and think that voids the validity of a rivalry. The fans hate each other, the players hate each other, every game is crucial for the division, every game is a nail-biter – ITS A RIVALRY. You’re not above a rivalry, Clark.
If these players don't have a rivalry, how come there's so much jaw-jacking on both sides in every game? You don't respond to another team's trash-talk so passionately during a game if they're so irrelevant in your eyes.

Ryan Clark's comments remind me of those guys you see in the movies or in your neighborhood growing up who try to act tough about things that bother them. "Oh, naw, naw, that's nothing to me, man! That ain't nothing!" And then they're wiping away tears and sniffles as they're saying it and trying to look like the bigger man.

Ryan Clark can go back to the playground if he thinks this isn't a rivalry.

Dear Mr Clark,
If you would be kind enough to show me ANY NFL rivalry throughout history that ENDED equally? 46-46? 27-27? I am not saying there is not one but seriously man...

The Steelers currently have an 18-12 edge in the regular season if I'm not mistakened, and here's an idea man, current rivalries are ONGOING, what a mind blower huh? That edge is going to even out really soon buddy, you probably will be too old and slow and therefore likely not even a part of this rivalry by the time we take the lead in the next few seasons. But hey, at least you'll be there to see the tide turn when passes are sailing over your head this season. See you week 1.

Signed,
Aaron

Short answer - a guy that likes to spear helmet-to-helmet.

Ryan Clark has been 'planking' on the football field before 'planking' was cool.

That's fine but talking doesn't win you games. You play the game on the field, not with your mouths. Jets did the same thing last year before the week 1 game against us and we went out on the field and won.
I agree, but they've already won most of the games so the Steelers have room to talk (especially concerning the Flacco/Harbs era). The Jets spoke too much and too soon, but they had nothing to stand on. I believe Mike Tomlin dubbed Roethlisberger the "Ravens Killer." I don't think that came back to haunt him.

These guys are just full of themselves. Off field issues, what seems like every single offseason. Trying to create this image of NFL Bad Boys.

Some people just can't handle success.

He's just trying to get under the skin of all things Ravens. If he truly thinks this isn't a rivalry he is delusional. The Steelers are only a couple games ahead of us as far as head to head record so his comments about the record not being close are a farce. Many people are going on how we don't win the bigger games, that's not what he said and they should stop changing the context.

yeah, one thing to talk smack on the field; but going on the record, you're supposed to be of a certain stature before you're given a pass to say whatever.

but even then, with the exception of when Princess Brady talked smack about the Jets, I dont recall any instances of really big time players shooting off at the gums.

Guess Harrison has really rubbed off on the locker room...I'd be ornery too if I had to work with him every day

Isn't Ryan Clark the guy who said if he didn't play on Pittsburgh, he'd only want to play here because of how great the matchup is (AKA Rivalry?)? I know they were talking about that before this year's playoff game, but I didn't remember if it was him or not.

It was Clark that made comments along those lines.
"Hatred is a strong word,'' Clark said. "I don't particularly hate them. In fact, the ultimate respect I can give them is if I couldn't play for Pittsburgh, I'd want to play for Baltimore.''

From that same article you posted...
Both men fell to the turf, and McGahee, severely concussed, lay motionless for several minutes until taken off the field on a cart. "I may live on in Steeler lore because of that one play,'' Clark said. "The sad thing is he got hurt, and I regretted that, obviously. But it's the kind of play you get in this rivalry.''
It's been a long offseason with the lockout and most of the news about his team has been off the negative variety. Clark needed to put the attention on another team.

He just didn't do a good enough job of it. Too be honest, I don't even see what Clark or Woodley said as trash talk. It seemed more like they were team on the losing end of our last couple games and needed to speak publicly about how they're still confident as a team.

Sounds more like they are trying to draw the Ravens in to throw us off track, more so then speaking what they truly believe.

I think LeRon McClain had the best response on 105.7 the Fan yesterday. When asked about the comments Clark made, McClain said he can't wait to take on Clark or whoever else they wanna throw into the Rivalry. Then said.....Clark shouldn't even be the guy talking anyway, but we won't get into that.

The Ravens have never been a team to bite their tongues, and even under Harbs, if someone attacks us we fire right back. However it seems the Ravens are just tired of all the Steelers talk and they just wanna get on the field Sept 11.

I like that approach

Yea and if it wasn't, the media will definitely hype it up enough during week 1 to make it bulletin board material.

The Ravens don't need that material, as both team really get up for these games. However I'm sure a guy like Mason will be sure to remind Woodley and Clark about their comments after a TD.

We might even see a little more fire out of Joe because of all the talk directed towards him in that game.
