Playstation 3 Problem

24 posts in this topic

Okay so last night something went wrong with my playstation 3 for the first time. I've had it for a few years and nothing wrong has really ever happened but last night I was playing MLB 11 The Show and it just cut off. The system beeps and then shuts off and the red light blinks continuously. I've tried to play it a few times since but it keeps doing this. It doesn't do it when I put in an old game like MLB 07 but it does within minutes of me playing MLB 11 or Madden 11. I haven't gotten a yellow light of death so I don't know whats up. What is wrong with my Playstation and what should I do?

So, you're only able to play certain games but not others?

Sounds like it might be a problem with the disc drive, if that's the case. Otherwise, if you're not able to play any games at all or even keep your system on for longer than 2 minutes, then it's definitely YLOD and an overheating issue.

All old ps2 games work fine but the newer ones will turn on for a few minutes then the system cuts off...Could it be a blu-ray issue or something?

That sucks. I've had my PS3 die on my before with a disk drive error. Looks like you might have to send it in to Sony. I think it is like 150 or 100 dollars. But they are pretty quick if you go that route.

Have you kept it clean and removed dust when it gets dusty? If you haven't, well you could always wipe down the system but get the vacuum and suck out the dust gathered inside the system. Just a suggestion, but like PU said call Sony and see what they say and how much it would cost for them to fix it.

If you send it into Sony, it's less than $150. They rush out a special box to you that you pack your console in, and you have to send it to a UPS or Fed-Ex drop-off facility. It takes less than two weeks total to get everything done.

I sent mine in last summer. Here's my repair diary if you're curious as to the process.

Thanks for the help guys. So does this mean my data is going to be wiped out? That will suck because I've spent so much time on my road to the show player on MLB since I bought it in March haha.

Yep, your data will be wiped. This is why you're advised to back up your data regularly or at least once a month with an external hard drive. You can get external drives for cheap these days, with 250 GB drives running for $40-50 if you purchase online from Amazon or New Egg. If you're just backing up game saves, you shouldn't need more than 250 GB.

But, if you're ever up for upgrading your internal console hard drive, it's really easy to do and I'd then suggest that you go big like 500 GB.

fat ps3? theres a fix for it, but if you dont want to, send it into Sony.

and if you want, get a ps3 slim, they use less power and run much cooler.

in August Sony is releasing White ps3 slims

franchise has been thru this before.

Actually, he's talking about actually fixing it yourself. There's lots of DIY guides on the Internet and it's much cheaper, but unless you have experience with taking apart computers and electronics, I'd advise against it since you run the risk of doing even more damage and Sony won't be willing to do the $150 repair if you open up the console.

I am having problems with connecting to my internet. I have the infamous problem of the DNS problem (80710102). I've tried using the 208.67.222.222 or 220.220 for the DNS and I still am having problems. I have tried resetting my router and what not. Maybe if you could let me know exactly what to input whenever I put my IP address, default router, and the DNS primary and secondary option. Help me OO great and wise Franchise. I need to play Fifa online and wreck people and I can't figure it out!!!!

This PSN message board thread (below) seems to address the issue pretty effectively. You are using the right DNS but your settings might be incorrect.

I tried using that link before and it didn't work. I have to be doing something wrong and I probably didn't read the directions correctly. I'll mess around with it Sunday. Thanks

First off, did you sync up the controllers by plugging them in via USB first?

Also, check to see if your Wi-Fi is enabled for your Internet or that your Ethernet cable (if you're using a wired connection) is plugged in.

I tried to connect them wirelessly first and it didnt work then I plugged them in and that worked. But I still cant get them to connect wirelessly. And everything is enabled.
