According to TMZ. Ward blew a .128 and smelled of alcohol according to police. So he did take a breathalyser and was above the legal limit of .08, but not by much.

So much for his name being cleared. Him and his agent had me believing. But I must say, nice choice of car. Aston Martin - good touch.

.128 is no joke, though...For his weight (205 lbs), that's about 8 beers in 2 hours (per the fun little calculator I just played with).

Agreed. It's enough to get the handcuffs and to impair driving.

You read my mind. I was just doing the calculation in my head. 8 drinks might be at the high end even for a guy his size. I was thinking more like 6.

Considering what has come out, I am going to think that for the second straight season a Pittsburgh Steeler will miss the first Ravens-Steelers game. Don't know how many games but I'll say 2-4 games Hines will be suspended for.

It's a world record! The first time he wasn't smiling after an illegal hit (to the curb).

If Ben can get his punishment reduced, Hines might have to serve 1 quarter or something.

And oh by the way does anybody find it interesting how a guy who is such a stickler for the rules on the field can be so lenient to issues that occur off the field. I just thought it to be a stark contrast in philosophies when it comes to the rules and the adhering therein.

Maybe not since his court date is not until October.

Keep in mind that breathalyser tests are notoriously inaccurate and can be "beat", especially with a good lawyer. Unless there is also blood work to back up that reading, Whines might get off.

That's a bummer. He'll most likely be playing come opening night. Ah Well, well at least there won't be anything for the Steelers to hold against us, when we beat the Steelers.

he wont get suspended for any amount of games...it happened during the lockout and during the time that the league hgas basically said "you dont work fo us right now". If goodell did try and suspend him, i would think the nflpa would have somethin to say about it, thus dragging it like like the brothers up in Minnesota did. So it looks like you will have to hope for something else to happen to try and give the ravens the edge against the steelers

From all accounts I read, Goodell is going to attempt to punish players once the lockout ends. If the NFLPA is going to put up a stance, we shall see what side will prevail. I don't really care who wins. But I think Goodell's doghouse has been a good thing for this league.
Roger Goodell is making a list and checking it twice.

Even with the ongoing NFL lockout, Goodell says he and his security staff are keeping tabs on any misbehavior by players, with punishment forthcoming if the commissioner deems it merited.

In other words, there is no immunity from the personal conduct policy in the standard player’s contract — even though the contract is not in force because of the lockout.
i still dont see any games missed for a first time offense, but am really hoping that the nflpa takes a stand, because goodell is getting ridiculous with him being judge and jury. Hope the league gets rid of him soon.

Jamal Lewis got suspended for actions before he even signed an NFL contract. Goodell does whatever he wants.

Although I have a very low tolerance for misbehavior by the players, I think there should be a panel that reviews and hands out the punishment.

I'm in the exact same mindset as you. I like the low tolerance approach. I'm not a big fan of Goodell Being judge/jury/executioner. But I prefer it over nothing.

Hines probably won't be suspended at all. But I wouldn't be surprised if he does get 1 game.

If Hines gets off free with no punishment due to lockout then the same should be for Pacman Jones, Kenny Britt and Aqib Talib.

It is an all or nothing package in terms of punishment. Either all the cases get measured under Goodell's doghouse rules or none of them do. Hines violation might not be even deemed punishable in terms of suspension. But that's a different matter.

It is costly but you are correct. He refused the breathalyser and in MD that is an automatic guilty. I am sure he can and will afford the best lawyer.

I think getting a DUI is one of the most irresponsible things someone can do, especially a millionaire athlete who can afford to hire a limo or taxi service to drive them wherever he wants. I don't think Braylon Edwards got a punishment from the NFL for his DUI, so I highly doubt anything happens to Ward this time around.

I agree, as far as we know its his first offense and at 35 he has seen this play out numerous times. Goodell has gotten a bit ridiculous last year.

I think it needs to be taken much more seriously than it is, and not just because it's Ward. Any DUI can very easily turn into a DUI manslaugter as it did Stallworth. As I look at it they did the same thing. It just so happened, tragically, that someone walked out in front of Stallworth. To have a consequentialist attitude about this is dangerous, and frankly stupid. If players are not at all reprimanded for this sort of thing by the league, why would they stop?

Agreed. I got my skull fractured and lost my childhood friend because of people who think it's okay to have a few beers and drive. Got no love for that crap. It's not a victimless crime, even if there is no accident.

I should have phrased my wording a bit better. I think a DUI shouldn't be taken lightly at all. It's a very serious thing. I more meant to say that I don't think he'll get a suspension from Goodell. Ward is a first time offender who'd been in the league a very long time, based on Goodell's track record, I see nothing or a 1 game suspension.

It's a shame because for normal people a DUI means a lot of work and money as punishment. AA meetings, probation, loss of license, thousands of hard earned dollars. As it should be. But for celebs and athletes, they get off with a slap on the wrist a lot. Because a couple thousand dollars isn't very much of a punishment.

I see where you're coming from, ArmyRaven52, but Ben wasn't even charged; Ward was arrested. Too bad we don't have any Bengals or Chargers fans, they would know how these things usually work.

no the difference is that this would be ward's first off the field issue, where as the others are all repeat offenders, especially pacman

but did rice have anything to say about the OL coach who got busted drinkin and drivin?

So what if he didn't? Ward plays for a rival team. Considering Rice lost a cousin because of a drunk driver in '98, I can see why he would comment on Ward's run-in with the law.

pretty hyprocritical sounding to me

no one really respects people who live by double standards

so i guess by your own words he had no problem and had nothing to vocally say about stallworth, even though stallworth killed a guy
