HAHA, mathematical coincidences?? Are you serious?

"If you take the perimeter of the pyramid and divide it by two times the height, you get a number that is exactly equivalent to the number pi (3.14159...) up to the fifteenth digit. The chances of this phenomenon happening by sheer chance is remarkably small. Did the ancient Egyptians know what the number pi was? Not likely, seeing as it was a number not calculated accurately to the fourth digit until the 6th century, and the pyramids calculate it to the fifteenth."

Those Egyptians and their handy-dandy calculators!!

"What about the fact that even though the sides of the base of the pyramid are some 757 feet long, it still forms an almost perfect square? Every angle in the base is exactly 90 degrees. In fact, the sides have a difference in length of something like two centimeters, which is an incredibly small amount."

Those Egyptians and their handy-dandy rulers!!

"What about the fact that the Egyptians had not even invented the wheel yet, but the blocks that they had to carry to build the pyramids weighed about 2 tons each? 4,000 lbs.? What did they do... use cement? In fact, they used so much stone, that if you took all of the stone they used and cut it into 1 foot square blocks, it would extend 2/3 of the way around the earth!!!"

Those Egyptians and their handy-dandy protein shakes with creatine!!

"How about the fact that a group of modern scientists attempted to build a pyramid out next to the real one using modern technologies, and after something like 100 days, succeeded in building one about 1/40 of the size of the real one????"

Man, don't WE look like idots!!

Because all of those, each and every ONE, is a coincidence. Open up your mind and use some of that imagination that was given to you.
LOL that part about creatine killed me. Have you also seen things about ancient cave paintings depicting flying objects and strange looks "humans"? If I was a betting man, I would bet that birds didnt resemble UFO's back then either, seeing as nothing man made could fly...

Well in my opinion the sun will take us (earth) out. Due to it progressing into its next stage of life as a "Red Giant" it should swallow the earth whole...but by then we will have other humans living on different planets not in our galaxy.

But I also think it is very possible for sun storms to kill us all. Wipe out all life on our planet...I hate you sun!!!!!!!!!!
By the time that happened, humans will have evolved into entirely something else...not that that matters though, since colonizing other planets is pretty much outta the question.

nope EA and bioware determined Shepherd will save us all in 2012 the mayan calander really speaks about Commander Shepherd and the fight against Harbinger for the fate of earth in 2012 . and if you believe that I will tell you I am not allowed to share my true feelings as per the Rules of the forum which is not fair but oh well , Camping was wrong and will continue to be so till he opens the book and stops thinking his own thoughts. its not worth Guessing a date . Just Live a Good Life (my Beliefs are not being Expressed just an encouragement to Live and not worry about what might be and go by what is )

What do you mean it's outta the question? I think in 20-30 years, after we have sent humans to Mars, we will have a pretty good idea of how we could colonize it. It could be as simple as greenhouses/specially designed eco-tents.

Yes I have. That's even more proof that something inhabited their land, or at least helped them create different things. The Mayans also had an alien-like creature painted in what seems to be a "space ship". It's extremely popular and well known. When I'm on the computer I'll give a link.

I just wanted to get some opinions on what you guys think might happen on this date. For some unknown reason, it's been in my head for the last year or so, and I've been reading various opinions on what could happen by people who actually make a lot of sense.

In relation to the Mayan calender ending, I've even read that aliens could come to earth on this date, and start to take over the world. A lot of people (including me) believe that aliens were once visitors of this planet, and helped the Mayans and Egyptians with various projects, such as building pyramids. In reality, the facts are startling, take this website for example.

I didn't mean to turn this into a "do aliens exist" thread, but I'm rather interested in some of your thoughts and theories. Do you think something will happen, or am I just on the Internet too much?
If they helped humans build Pyramids....key word, they helped us. Why would they come to take us over? Just as absurd as the Nibiru story

Like I said earlier, this thread doesn't have to just consist of aliens in 2012. I'm trying to see what people think might happen. Hell, maybe the Mayans and the Egyptians didn't even help build pyramids and other structures, maybe it was just the ET's

I think Incas and/or Aztecs had something majorly to do with killing Mayans which is why I think the calendar was never finished due to Mayans being decimated and executed by other civilizations.

Other known causes of Mayans,Aztecs, Incas deaths are

Climate changes.
Droughts.
Illnesses.
Epidemic diseases by Spanish conquestors and Eurpoeans.

Nobody talks about it because it's a historically insignificant event. It certainly has nothing at all to do with the Mayans - Roanoke colony was in North Carolina, while the Mayans were a Central American empire. I can't understate the importance of becoming well-versed in world geography.
So nothing odd about 2 colonies die off or disappearing is odd to you? Aztecs, Toleics, Snsazari, Incas other colonies that died.

First one just isn't impressive. Second one just isn't true. And even if it was, how does a perfect square prove aliens? You act as if ancient Egyptians were knuckle-dragging apes.

What on Earth are you talking about? Those weren't colonies, those are Native American civilizations which died off. And what do they have to do with aliens?! The Spanish brought an end to them with their European diseases and their metal weapons, not aliens. Where is my facepalm smiley? Do they not teach history at all in school anymore?

As for the Roanoke colony disappearing (which is still unrelated to anything we're discussing...), no it isn't odd. The Americas were a new land and many colonists died during the colonial era, due to harsh weather conditions, limited supplies, and Native American attacks. But none of the Native American peoples you mentioned were from North America.

I can't imagine what this is going to do to some people. That rapture that was supposed to happen 2 months ago encouraged people to quit their jobs, leave their families. I even heard about some of the really radical people committing mass suicides before it happened. More people will die from alcohol poisoning on December 21 than anything else lol.

That is a serious concern and is exactly why these conspiracy theorists need to put the tin foil hats away and stop stirring the pot for the fun of it. Harold Camping's mathematical equations in the bible caused deaths. This Mayan calendar BS is going to cause deaths. I wish people would use their brains instead of believing in conspiracy theories and trying to scare themselves and others.

When my calendars end I just buy a new one for the new year, I don't go starting rumors about the end of the world.

Ancient Egyptians are much smarter than commonly believed, but intellect doesn't explain how they were able to carry 2 ton blocks of stone. Without machinery of some sort, it isn't possible that human strength alone could not only carry these, but place them with such exactitude.

The convincing aspect is that the Mayans successfully predicted quite a few events if I recall. However, so did Nostradamus. The predictions are very vaguely related. Or example, Nostradamus 'predicted' Katrina, with words like "big flood in the great city" and the years correlated somehow. It really depends on how it is perceived, and as with everything else, it is perceived in different ways.

Well one theory is that the earths poles shift side. So north and south magnet poles switch sides causing climate changes and fish and bird deaths.

how true is this? Is it even possible for the Earths poles to just randomly switch sides?

i hate to sound heartless here...

Ah, nevermind. Dont know how to say it without coming off as a jerk. I'll just say that if people want to kill themselves because some yahoo predicts some off the wall nonsense, well, I feel for their families and those affected by it. Other than that, can't really say I have much empathy there. One of many reasons why I strongly dislike religion.

As soon as I saw that first line, I was about to say "If you don't say it, I will" lol. Can't say it any better than you did though. If you're willing to kill yourself and put your family through that kind of suffering because of some totally out there claim that seemed to come out of no where, then you deserve what's coming to you.

Intellect DOES explain it. Go on any search engine and do a search for (realistic) theories on how the pyramids were built. There are multiple plausible theories, none of which involve aliens. Seriously, just because we may not be exactly sure does not in any way indicate aliens.

it's actually a lot more complicated than it sounds (well, at least the repercussions).
The poles flip all the time - by all the time I mean every x-thousands of years - and it's due to happen again.

It's a very gradual process though...you can pretty much discount that theory.
