I just wanted to get some opinions on what you guys think might happen on this date. For some unknown reason, it's been in my head for the last year or so, and I've been reading various opinions on what could happen by people who actually make a lot of sense.

In relation to the Mayan calender ending, I've even read that aliens could come to earth on this date. A lot of people (including me) believe that aliens were once visitors of this planet, and helped the Mayans and Egyptians with various projects, such as building pyramids. In reality, the facts are startling, take this website for example.

I didn't mean to turn this into a "do aliens exist" thread, but I'm rather interested in some of your thoughts and theories. Do you think something will happen, or am I just on the Internet too much?

I just think there is a ton of hype beside a date.

If you think about it why would the aliens want us to know when they are coming to take over?

There have been plenty of other empires who's calendars have come to an end and an alien takeover and/or apocalypse hasn't happened.

I'm a disbeliever but it is cool to look into and whatnot.

I've thought about it. Not that that's the first place I run to when I think about the date, I just think it makes the most sense, really. It's absurd to believe "aliens" could come back and harvest humans, but how else is the world supposed to end if it does? There's no way that a natural disaster can happen on that exact date, I just don't believe it. If you've ever done research on this topic, you'll see that a lot of experts would say that Mayans were taken by aliens and lived in some galaxy while building a colony and helping the ET's with technology and labor.

So am I, even though I let my mind wander too far sometimes. That site really makes you think. How else could someone possibly explain how the Egyptians really built the pyramids?

I like to think I'm open-minded, so I would certainly not rule out the possibility of something happening which will could end life as we know it. (I'm also a believer in aliens, but like you said, that's a slightly different story)

I do find my self slightly skeptical about the idea though, especially as it's really just on the basis that the Mayan calendar ended on that particular date.

I saw on TV a while back, a documentary about this kind of thing. There was a map of a a certain part of an ocean (can't remember which one it was) that was made by the Egyptians, I believe. Well the strip of water was huge, and the way the map was made was perfect, nearly every mile. Anyway, it's believed that something had to be above the water in order to make the map, and as we all know, planes and helicopters didn't exist back then. Many people believe it was a UFO. I'll try to find the video online. It'll rock your world.

I don't believe it at all. It has all been so hyped up since the movie "2012". No-one really spoke much of it before the movie released. Who knows though, I might be wrong an be looking very stupid in a year and a half.

Who are these "experts"?

December 21, 2012 could just be another date on the calendar.

I see where you're coming from. My belief is that it's not so much as "Dooms Day", as people like to call it. I just think something catastrophic (such as aliens) will come to fruition, which will totally wipe out any government system which will have people trying to survive on their own.

Those people are all known for their claims about this subject matter...I was looking for an expert who supports this but is known for his or her research. Not just being known for making this claim.

It's just people can make a claim about anything, but once an expert backs it up and this expert knows what he's talking about and is pretty well known that's how something really becomes credible.

General rule: Sites that resort to CAPSLOCK and look like not a dime went into their creation generally aren't worth a grain of sand as far as truth value.

There is nothing to this, don't spend time thinking or worrying about an end of a calendar belong to an extinct people from South America. Seriously, it's absurd.

2012 story-based movies, books, sites produces loads of money . You can twist this story in so many ways yet make it credible. For all I know the Mayans didn't left a note with "the world will end" in it. The "end" also doesn't need to be a material death .
Btw,I believe the world will end when the freakin sun will die. Thank God its a young star

The Mayan calender does NOT predict "the end of the world". What the calender predicts is the end of this current cycle in human and earthly evolution. The end of the "fifth sun" and the coming of the new age where human consciousness takes a leap forward. Read anything by John Major Jenkins, Michael Sharp, Carl Johan Calleman or David Wilcock. Their interpreations of the calender are based on years of research into the finite details of the long count calender (the 5000 year "baktun" cycle) and how it fits into astronomical studies based on Mayan astromoners from thousands of years ago. All this talk about the end of the world is pure speculation which does nothing but feed into the whole fear paradigm. A great book to start out with is called "The Mayan Code" by Barbara Hand Clow. Which is why my topic isn't soley based on the ending of the Mayan calender lol. As you can see, I am all for discussing a wide variety of possibilites, be it aliens or zombies; whatever floats your boat! I just want to see what people may think it's about, and if something does happen, what it could be.

Well in my opinion the sun will take us (earth) out. Due to it progressing into its next stage of life as a "Red Giant" it should swallow the earth whole...but by then we will have other humans living on different planets not in our galaxy.

But I also think it is very possible for sun storms to kill us all. Wipe out all life on our planet...I hate you sun!!!!!!!!!!

I am always told and I continue to hear this. The reason why Mayans never finished calendar because they were all killed off in an attack by Aztecs or Incas. I don't know how true that was. But I see it as a possibility. Its like 1 colony having enemy with another colony.

Of course no one talks about the Lost Colony, which is Roanoke Colony. Which had just disappeared over night as if they all moved or all were taken by aliens. I always thought that Mayans calendar had something to do with the disappearance of Roanoke Colony. I sometimes think Roanoke attacked Mayans and then both colonies died.

I would have to believe the side that says it's going to be the beginning of the end, as opposed to everything just ending. Not that I believe any of it, but if I did that's what I would believe.
What are facts? You have to be specific. I read the website and see stories about aliens and mathematical coincidences not unlike those found in Harold Camping's theories about the world ending in May of 2011 (spoilers: didn't happen). There is nothing remotely compelling about the website you linked, sorry.

Nobody talks about it because it's a historically insignificant event. It certainly has nothing at all to do with the Mayans - Roanoke colony was in North Carolina, while the Mayans were a Central American empire. I can't understate the importance of becoming well-versed in world geography.

HAHA, mathematical coincidences?? Are you serious?

"If you take the perimeter of the pyramid and divide it by two times the height, you get a number that is exactly equivalent to the number pi (3.14159...) up to the fifteenth digit. The chances of this phenomenon happening by sheer chance is remarkably small. Did the ancient Egyptians know what the number pi was? Not likely, seeing as it was a number not calculated accurately to the fourth digit until the 6th century, and the pyramids calculate it to the fifteenth."

Those Egyptians and their handy-dandy calculators!!

"What about the fact that even though the sides of the base of the pyramid are some 757 feet long, it still forms an almost perfect square? Every angle in the base is exactly 90 degrees. In fact, the sides have a difference in length of something like two centimeters, which is an incredibly small amount."

Those Egyptians and their handy-dandy rulers!!

"What about the fact that the Egyptians had not even invented the wheel yet, but the blocks that they had to carry to build the pyramids weighed about 2 tons each? 4,000 lbs.? What did they do... use cement? In fact, they used so much stone, that if you took all of the stone they used and cut it into 1 foot square blocks, it would extend 2/3 of the way around the earth!!!"

Those Egyptians and their handy-dandy protein shakes with creatine!!

"How about the fact that a group of modern scientists attempted to build a pyramid out next to the real one using modern technologies, and after something like 100 days, succeeded in building one about 1/40 of the size of the real one????"

Man, don't WE look like idots!!

Because all of those, each and every ONE, is a coincidence. Open up your mind and use some of that imagination that was given to you.
