What Are The Chances Of The Lockout Ending This Week?

82 posts in this topic

What chances would you give the lockout to end this week like Mase and a few others have said will happen???
(1-10, with 1 being impossible, and 10 being definitely)

If not this week, what chances do you see of the lockout ending before the season starts, and when??
(again, 1-10 scale)

I personally see the lockout ending this week, but anything is possible. I give it a 7 out of 10.

I'd go with 7 as well. Its definitely been a roller coaster with talks looking good, then breaking down. However, they've stressed how important it is to get it done this week in order to preserve a full preseason. I think this is the week, but who knows.

My question is, what happens with our players the day the lockout ends?

Do we begin training camp immediately? I know our FO will address player signings but what about our guys that will be on the field? When do they start practicing?

really its any bodys guess. One report said no way in H.E. double hockey sticks its ever going to happen, another report says it actually happened two months ago they are just keeping it a secret. And every thing in between.

I think both sides are nearing panic mode. Neither side really wanting to play chicken.

Initially I thought mid-pre season but, I am hoping for sooner.

End of this week would be nice, next week is more likely. Mason said it could be end of this week so we'll see. I think as long as it ends by that July 14-15 date, we won't miss any games or any preseason games and still have some time for free agency and all that...I think you are going to see a lot more injuries this year though, unless they really stayed in shape and can get in game shape quickly.

While preparations for training camp will begin, camp itself shouldn't begin yet. I will be interested to see if the NFL teams attempt to scrap together any kind of OTAs.

Yeah, camp wont begin immediately. There has to be at least a short period of Free Agency. Teams wont want to start up camps until they have a good idea of what their roster will look like.

I give it an 8 and some time this weekend. Then a scramble for free agency!

I think about 7 there is a lot of sponsorship that goes on during the season let alone the Superbowl..
I don't think corporations are just going to let it all go to waste specially with new product promotions.
I think football brings the biggest crowd from all over the world now... If we have a season I think we will see a pair of teams go over seas and play as well...

I say an 8 this week

and a 9 for next week.

It seems everyone is ready to get this thing done and over with. The owners are realizing they are going to start losing money in the next wk or two.

I heard some where that the owners pocket 7 hundred million dollars before the first game of the season even starts with all the preseason games and other things added up.

I think the first thing that happens when its lifted is a bunch of hirings and firings. Resigning and FA will be the first thing to go down. LOL the NFL Network will be busy as hell reporting everything that will happen in the first few days. Im getting excited just thinking about it.

It gets a 6 this week... and then the urgency level bumps it up to an 8 if they don't get it done by the end of this week.

I hope it ends this week too, and it is being described as being in the "red zone", there driving, they can see the goal line, it also feels like they are at the 5 yard line and they are right there.

http://rotoworld.com/headlines/nfl/206131/players--and--owners-in-red-zone-of-labor-talks

If you ask me... this is more like being on the 50 Yard Line, and it's 4th down and you need a Hail Mary to win the game because a Hail Mary is exactly what it's going to take to get this done.

It doesn't matter when they finally get around to agreeing

Rookies will be at a great disadvantage, free agency will be insane, and training camps will be a mess.

All because they didn't want to work weekends the past month...

I'll remember that when they want me to take time off of my weekend to help their advertising revenue.

Agreed, they had 2 yrs to work on this, it should have never come down to this (lockout),
im really starting to get pissed off now. What are they waiting on lets go. Do they not realize revenue is going to drop if there is no season this yr, i hate to say it but if that happens i for one wont be buying jack sh@t for a long time because of this, no more Jerseys, bobbleheads, blankets, NOTHING. Do they not realize that they are punishing us for absolutely no Reason whatsoever. Well News Flash, we can Punish them a heck of a lot more by not buy anything.

The owners want to fight over BILLIONS OF DOLLARS, well how bout fighting over hundreds of thousands of dollars instead, because thats what will happen if they keep this up. Do they not realize that MLB still hasnt recovered from their strike 15 yrs ago. By the way i didnt watch Baseball than and still dont plan on it. I dont care if we were the Yankees, baseball is a JOKE.

I'm hearing talks are still continuing as of now and I have to think they are so they can take the weekend off... once again. I wouldn't be surprised if it was like last week, long day into night on Thursday Night, meet for a few hours on Friday and leave for the weekend. I wish they stop taking weekends off, like someone said this could be done if they didn't take weekends off.

Let's revise this to say, "Who thinks that there will be a preseason this year?"
I think it will be an abbreviated preseason, like 1 or 2 games. Enough to allow Free Agency and player transactions.

If this is the case, we should be pretty well off. At least our coaches have been here for a while. A lot of our key positions have been around a while. So we should be more prepared than most teams.

I just heard on ESPN that Judge Mediated talks have been scheduled for July 19, I hope that doesnt mean they cant come to an agreement before that.

To me the whole "out of shape" thing is way too hyped. These are pro atheletes, ever since they were in highschool they trained consistantly, either throughout a season or throughout a year considering most highschool kids play multiple sports.

These men love being in shape - well most. They pride themselves on their ability to "beat" another man one-on-one.

They WILL be in shape. Just because a coach isnt yelling down their throats does not mean they aren't doing cardio and weight training.

For example: myself. I am not a pro athelete. But I work out 3/4 days a week, and train like an athelete. I even work out when I am on vacation. I pride myself on the work I have put in already. If I slack off I feel horrible.

I believe in my heart thats how these men are also.

Most NFL players are passionate about there jobs. They are probably getting Anxiety to go back to work and start Training camp to... I think soon you will see the players wanted to get back on the field and come to an agreement because of there passion for the most televised American Sport...

From what I have read, the Mediator is on Vacation(which is very bad timing) but at the same time the league and players knew about his vacation and they still only talked for 2 days the past few weeks.

Apparently the Rookie Wage Scale is going to be a hot topic tomorrow because the League wants 1st Round Rookies to have 5 year contracts while the players are pushing for 4 years. Though they have agreed on some things according to Albert Breer which is 4 years max for players drafted in Rounds 2-7, an agreement that keeps players from asking for a new contract until after Year 3(I call this the Chris Johnson rule) and undrafted Free Agents can't negotiate until after Year 2.

Regardless what happens tomorrow, if there is no deal by Friday the 15th, we can forget about half of the pre-season.

Someone, ME, is going to be in a beyond awful mood if something is not done by Wednesday.
I know I'll be very angry if I find out the rookie scale was holding this thing up. No need for it to be holding things up. All I know is they better agree to a deal on Friday, give a copy of the rules to all Owners, and get Free Agency under way within a week. I joined a Yahoo Public FF league which was set to draft on July 30th but I dropped out of that league because of how things were going with labor talks.
