The "Let's Sign" Nnamdi Thread

The thing is, as much as that sounds good, I actually believe that our drafting of Smith is the biggest factor in the argument against us signing Nnamdi. Contrary to popular belief, we aren't as desperate for a shutdown corner as we were 12 months back. Also, due to Smith's first round status and the fact that he has Drew Rosenhaus as his agent, he'll get a very nice rookie contract.

I'm not saying that because we got Smith we won't get Asomugha, rather if we hadn't drafted Smith I think we'd pursue Asomugha more strongly.

What Fly said. At this point it's all about the SB for nnamdi.

Admittingly I've been one of the main people around here saying the possibilities of getting Nnamdi are slim to none, especially if it means sacrificing the youthful core of this team. I still stand by that.

However, If Nnamdi is serious about taking a pay cut in order to join a Super Bowl contender, then I really like the Ravens chances. I actually think it'd be a prefect fit for both sides.

For Nnamdi, although Pagano wasn't a DC in Oakland, he worked closely with Nnamdi everyday and they know each others style. Nnamdi knows Pagano will be a man to man heavy DC, and that's right up Nnamdi's alley. Also Nnamdi has mentioned how he'd like to be more involved in the defense on Sundays. Well with the Ravens run defense seemingly getting back to dominance, QBs will be in much more 3rd and longs. With Reed lurking over the top of the defense, QBs won't be able to avoid both Reed and Nnamdi, so Nnamdi's chances of being more involved in the defense on Sundays will increase greatly.

From the Ravens stand point, we'd get arguably the best shutdown Corner in the NFL. With Nnamdi's abilities and style of play, he'd be a great and possibly the perfect mentor for Jimmy Smith. On the field Nnamdi would team up with Ed Reed, to form what might be the most fearsome duo in a secondary in NFL history. Nnamdi wouldn't have a big adjustment because it'd be, hey you cover that guy and we'll roll Reed over the top of the other side and force the QB to attack one of you guys.

At 30 years old, Nnamdi could very well play CB for a couple more years and then make the transition to Safety like Rod Woodson did. But I think he has at least 4 more years as a top CB left in him.

I think if the price is right, it's a no brainer for the Ravens and Nnamdi to come together.

Oh and even with Nnamdi aboard, I think the Ravens would keep Foxy. For whatever reason Foxworth has gotten a lot of hate around here recently, but I think he's a cut above both Carr and Wilson. So keeping him would be great.

Nnamdi
Foxworth
Smith
Webb
Williams and/or Brown

Adding Nnamdi probably means Landry is gone. So those CBs, added to Reed, Nakamura and Zibby would form one of if not the best secondary in the NFL.

Although I don't foresee it happening, the sheer thought of Ed and Nnamdi (not to mention J. Smith) in the backfield is utterly amazing and literally gives me goose bumps!!

We'll see.......

That's what I been saying about if Aso was to come here, his involvement and chances on D will increase dearly b/c there are no holes in our D where QBs can continue to go other places at will to avoid Aso so that should intrigue him too. Its like Smith at Colorado when he was barely targeted, know he got real bored quick of that and wish the D he was on was so strong where the QBs would have had to target him a lot more which in turn could increase his INT numbers that could lead to possible TDs which would make the game more exciting to him which in turn could boost his play a little. Nothing is more boring to a player than consistently being a decoy and I'm sure that kills a lot of Moss motivation over the years constantly being a decoy when he's not tearing it up which over his last few seasons he's just been a decoy.

Back to the subject, it would surprise me if Aso doesn't want to come here which I don't see that happening so it will surprise me if we don't get him.

IMO, if we are talking about from a straight defensive and Super Bowl standpoint, I think Aso would love to join the Ravens. Just the history, legacy, and current talent of our defense is intriguing.

However, a team like Dallas could throw big money at Aso and give him Super Bowl hopes, so he wouldn't have to take less money. But I'm not sure if his personally fits the big lights of Dallas.

A team like the Chargers could offer Aso a nice chunk of money, Super Bowl hope, good defense, familiar division, and the possibilities of not moving his family too much. From Oak to SD. However, Nnamdi might just want a complete change of scenery. Plus going to SD, he'd be the best player in their secondary and QBs would still be able to avoid him.

That talented but young secondary in NE failed them last season. I wouldn't be surprised to see them go after Aso. The Pats won their Super Bowls with great defense and it looks like they won't be able to win another without it again. But again, he'd instantly be the best player on their defense and teams could still avoid him.

Those are 3 teams that I could see being on Nnamdi's short list and they'd all have a great chance of getting him.

However, I don't know if it's the homer in me or what, but I think overall the Ravens should have the best chance of landing Nnamdi without "Big Money" being his sticking point.

I think if Nnamdi is serious about winning that Super Bowl, and being more active on Sundays, over money and Ozzie sat down with him, he wouldn't leave Baltimore without a jersey, hat, and nationally televised news conference.

IMO. Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Terrell Suggs, Haloti Ngata, Chuck Pagano, Joe Flacco, Ray Rice, Anquan Boldin, Todd Heap, and Derrick Mason would be too much for Nnamdi to pass up on if he's serious about winning a Super Bowl. Other then maybe the Jets and Steelers, who's been closer to winning the Super Bowl over the last 3 years then the Ravens?

Dallas has yet to win a playoff game with Romo at QB and missed the playoffs last year and their division is the tuffest in football ( move to the side AFC North, NFC East is still king of the Hill ) so its a lot of uncertainty surrounding the Cowboys ( I'm a Dallas fan also, born and raised ) b/c we don't know if Romo is the answer with his production always taking a big hit come November so that's a flashing red light for Aso right there.

Chargers is another team with uncertainties surrounding them seeing they didn't even make the playoffs last year with Rivers being a disappointment come playoff time too. Those teams hasn't nescassarily been knocking at the door if you know what I mean, especially like the Ravens have. We have always been one team away from SB destination rather its the Steelers or the Colts but the same can't be said about Dallas or San Diego and that's another flashing red light for Aso going to SD.

Originally I didn't see us getting Nnamdi, but after hearing several analysts talk about what he is looking for I think the Ravens have a legit chance. If we cut Willis and don't resign Wilson, Carr, or Landry I think it can work from a cap perspective. He would have to take a couple Million less, but adding him would instantly give us the best secondary and probably the best D in the league.

Like I said, out of the teams I believe to be on his short list based off what I've actually hear him say, I think the Ravens would top that.

However we don't know how much less Nnamdi is willing to take and how much the Ravens would be able to pay without damaging the fabric of the young core of the team.

We both again that no team as come as close over the last 3 season of going to the Superbowl save maybe the Jets and the Steelers, but I haven't heard either teams being mentioned.

It's tough to get a good grasp of the Nnamdi situation by the NFL being in a lockout, but the more I allow myself to think about it, the more I see Nnamdi in purple and black next season.

I don't know why this discussion is still going on...
He'll be signed in the next few weeks (is my guess), and a lot more teams can afford him over us. I know we're looking superbowl or bust as long as Ray and Ed are playing, but it WONT happen. Mark my words.

If it's true that Nnamdi is looking for Super Bowl over Money then affording him won't be the issue.

There just isn't "a lot more teams" that can offer Nnamdi the chance to play with 2 future HOFers(Ray and Ed)and 2 other defensive studs at their positions(Suggs and Ngata), his former secondary coach, and a legit chance at actually winning the Super Bowl and a class A organization.

If and it's a big IF, but if money isn't a top priority for Nnamdi, then I think the Ravens have a great chance at landing him. As unlikely as it seems.

It was unlikely that we traded for TO and Boldin too...I wouldn't worry too much about what the general public considers 'unlikely'.

If the write up on here is close to the numbers he's looking for, we can't afford him, period!

Jimmy's contract won't be that big, with the rookie wage scale likely in place, plus the facts that he went late in the 1st and is a CB.
Maybe not that big, but with Foxy already on good money and the possible return of Wilson will not come cheap. Although, we won't re-sign Wilson and go after Nnamdi without cutting Foxworth, which I don't think is likely.

That's fair enough, but I still think that whichever way you look at it, drafting Jimmy makes us signing Asomugha less likely. The need has diminished slightly though not altogether and we aren't the only team that will be interested capable of offering him a Superbowl run.

That is just speculation so I wouldn't get too worried about that right now. Plus, it says it would make him the highest paid player in NFL history. No way is a 30 year old CB going to earn more than the likes of Manning and Brady, no matter how good he is.

Listen here...
We're winning the super bowl. Plain and simple, no doubt about it. He can come if he wants.

But our need for him diminishes with Smith I agree. But he really takes us over the top.

Could you imagine smith on the #2 guy?

Sorry, whoever is willing to pay $19 million/year for a 30-year old CB is out of their mind... $9-12 million/year is more likely, but crazier things have happened (see: Albert Haynesworth).

Smith on the #2 receiver would be very unfair, especially if Nnamdi is guarding the #1 receiver.

I agree that he also takes us over the top on defense. Our secondary will go from being the conceived weak link of the D to being the best in the league.

I think the Ravens will make a "take it or leave it" offer to him just not much more.

This mans talkin' about not wanting his success in one area to override his success in other areas. Im hoping he doesn't follow the same though when it comes to wage, as we're not gonna pay him as much as he's used to, but the dude has ENOUGH cash, hopefully he can take in the fact that Flacco is on the verge of possibly becoming a star in this league, our O line is proper, our RB's are pro bowlers, our receivers are (hopefully) going to compliment each-other's talents much better. And everyone else knows that our D is nasty, and who wouldn't want to be taken under Ed Reed's wing!

I love Ed reed as much as the next guy, but when it comes to Aso he has had enough of his own success that he does not need to be "taken under someone's wing" I think he would look at it more in the sense of together with the personnel in our secondary we could become a legendary force.

Remember Manning and Brady's contracts are up soon, so they will definitely get contacts larger then anyone on the market right now.

I learn to not say there is "No Way" in terms of the NFL a long time ago.

What I will be willing to say is I don't see the Ravens giving him 19 mil per season. He's Super Bowl aspirations will probably have to be lowered considerably if he gets that type of money.

I've heard the Texans and Bucs as the front runners, and neither team is knocking on the door imo.

I agree. The Ravens will make a nice offer, it'll be nowhere near the money that others will offer, but none of those other teams will offer the personnel and Super Bowl chances of the Ravens.

So the ball would be in Nnamdi's court. If his words about Super Bowl over money is true, he'll have a great opportunity here. If the money is more enticing, then he'll get about 14-15 million from someone else.

Brady signed an extension during the regular season did he not? And we all know that Manning gets paid top, top dollar.

Maybe saying no way was a little far, but the chances he gets paid more than Manning are very slim. Especially given the fact that all signs point that contending is higher on his wishlist than money.

I 100% agree the Ravens won't go anywhere near that $19m/year figure. That would be bad business.

I don't know that either of those teams would be particularly attractive to from a "contending for a Superbowl" point of view, but I certainly understand why both of those teams would want to sign him. Maybe they could approach that ridiculous salary in order to tempt him.

Drafting Jimmy does make getting Aso less of a need but that doesn't mean the FO won't go after Aso. I'm completely sold on Aso coming to us and not asking for a huge contract seeing that we have arguably two of the best players ever in the history of the game that's taking a discount theirselves I believe so that can be factored in as well.

I feel our chances are better eveyday of getting Aso ( just hate the fact that everyone and their mother will be using them on Madden now,lol )

Both Ray and Ed are actually earning a good amount of money.

Once Ngata gets his deal, he'll be among the highest paid players at his position too. Yanda also has to be re-signed.

I'm sure they are earning a good amount of money but I'm sure they could demanded more, if not from Baltimore, could have accepted more from other teams ( Ray could have taken more in Dallas and I'm sure Ed could demand more his self ) so that's why I say taking a pay cut.

The Cowboys were never truly interested in Ray and actually chose to sign Keith Brooking instead. As for Ed, his contract extension made him the highest-paid safety in NFL history. He probably could have demanded more but I'm not sure if he would have gotten it.

I wonder if Pagano made any calls out west during that 24 hour break in the lockout. Maybe Ray and Ed as well. It's in Indianapolis this year.
