The "Let's Sign" Nnamdi Thread

,
Just so you know, Foxworth is scheduled to make 4.1 million this year and 5.5 million next year. We already invested 18 or 19 million into this guy for 2 years. It wouldn't make sense to get rid of him at this point. I guess we could get some return for him, but it would be a poor management of finacials if we cut him.
let's forget Nnamdi for a moment. He does not exist.

I want to focus on Foxworth, as well as his contract. I am a huge Foxworth fan, and am very happy to have him here. Seeing him leave for ANY reason would leave a bitter taste in my mouth.

But, if we retain him, let's make sure we are doing it for the right reasons. Keeping him around just in hopes of recouping some of the investment we made in him in the past is not the right reason. Whatever damage has been done by his contract is already done and we are past that. This is a new season, and we start on a new slate in context to his contract.
So if we keep him, it has to be because we feel he is better value than Nnamdi is. And that is a tall order. Nnamdi is one of the all time greats at his position who is in the prime of his career. He is a guy who will impact the entire team like very few others can. Think about what it will do for us with him locking down one side of the field, and Ed Reed ballhawking on the other side. Our secondary becomes lethal, our pass rush shoots through the roof. Jimmy Smith learns how to play from a legend early on. A huge burden is taken from the offense.

Signing Nnamdi might mean we can't bring a guy like Carr or Wilson back. But are guys like that really worth missing out on Nnamdi?,,,,,,,,

Can you explain this to me? So because we paid him and he has not produced we should hold out hope. It does not make much since to cut him for a guy that is to say the least a proven commodity. i am not exactly sure what we have paid him in the past has to do with how he will help us in the future. That is the hardest thing for me is linking how grossly we overpaid him to why he deserves sticking around. There is an old saying a fool and his money are soon departed. And as classy of a guy as he is, since we signed him to say that it has been a bust might be an understatement.

I'm not sure if you failed to read my post where I defended Foxworth's play in the 2009 season. Started slow but played very well towards the end of the season. An ACL injury should not be a strike against someone. It happens all the time where players have an offseason plagued with injuries and then the next year have a rebound year. It would be foolish to make the inpulsive decision and just cut him after one of year of injuries. If we would sign Nnamdi to a big contract and he got hurt for one year, you wouldn't just instantly want to cut him.

Are you seriously making a comparison of play between foxworth and nnamdi. If so you are going to be the only one that believes in that arguement.

Lets get hypothetical here, even though I hate doing this.

Lets take nnamdi's 2009 season and put it against foxworths. then he goes out for a year. am I going to talk about cutting him. Are you insane? He was the best corner in the league that year, something that if Foxy became twice of himself he still could not say.

Ok back to reality. And as for 2009's play if you are going to tell me that he was outstanding in the second half or even 2/3 of the 2009 season, which means we have netted 8-13 games out of the past 36 and yet we should continue to hope he is the only CB that comes back 100% after an ACL tear.

Second yeah it does not count against him that he got injured but was he earning his money ? The gigantic contract that Aso and Revis have do they earn it by meeting the expectations of their teams? I cant answer for either Fo but from what I have seen absolutely.

You make a lot of valid points. And just how Nnamdi would solidify the cb position, it would weaken other positions because of the fact we wouldn't be able to sign other positions. My point is more of, if we have a solid cb core with Foxworth, Jimmy Smith, Carr or Wilson, and Webb, why sacrifice other positions just to make one position elite?

Part of the reason why our team was so great last year was because of the fact we could matchup with so many teams. I don't know where the give and take would start if we got Nnamdi. It could be our o line, or it could be the d line or safety. A team can never just say they are just one player away from winning it all. Much more goes into every aspect of the game, than just one player. And with one Nnamdi contract, we could solidify several other positions

If we can re-sign Ngata first I would be all for it. I don't like going after the big names , but when you're one player away from being elite you do it. IMO an elite corner/outside linebacker and the D will be top 3 again.
And we won't cut Foxworth. Class act, represents the Ravens proudly, great guy in the community and coming off a big injury. He will get the chance this season to show he deserves what he's being paid .

Definitely more of an analogy and you put words in my mouth, never said Foxworth and Nnamdi were on the same level. But what I am saying is how quickly people forget how well Foxworth played before he got hurt and how all the sudden just want to cut Foxworth even if it would hurt other positions.

There is no way we can have superstars at every position. There just isn't enough cap for it. But Foxworth is a solid and since we don't have to pay him as much the next two years, it allows us to address other needs than cb.

If you are looking for more of my points I made a response to flynismo.

First, because that position is the position that impacts quarterbacks the most other than pass rush. You have an elite secondary, you can beat just about anyone (Yes, that's a bit obvious).

Second, could you clarify what positions we could solidify? I think sacrificing a few role players for one of the great players in the game today is pretty fair, unless I'm mistaken.

Maybe not every single position but at every level is definitely plausible.

Green Bay did it:

Secondary: Chuck, Collins
LB's: AJ Hawk, Clay Matthems
Dline: BJ Raji, Cullen Jenkens

Oline: Clifton
REceiving: Jennings, well really take your pick
RB: Grant
QB: Obvious

Not to mention they did just win a Lombardi Trophy.

that's not necessarily the case.
We simply would not bring back Carr/Wilson, and would not have to impact other positions.

I love these Oh so Hopeful threads, I am the realist coming into the room. as much as I would love Nnamdi, we won't sign him, yes we have the winner criteria fulfilled, and the young QB criteria, and a very good defense with or w/o him, its the finances... anyone thinking foxworth would be or prospectively being cut or traded is delusional. He is goin nowhere sadly enough bcuz I personally felt like we overpaid a nickel corner to be our top guy! (mistake). Willis is gone no doubt!!! but the difference here is we have way too many guys already on the team that we want to keep and are gonna be costly to sign the best FA this offseason. Here is a small list of guys we would love to keep bcuz they are instrumental to our success.

In no particular order
1.Jared Gaither (O-line is better with him than w/o just play where they ask you 2)2.Marshall yanda (great job at tackle, he is a pro bowl guard tho)
3. LeRon McClain (he can get paid and have willis' carries & he lost weight)
4. Dawan Landry (like willis, chalk him up, won't be back due to FA, willis is cut
5. Josh wilson ( I think we'd like to keep him but won't)
6. Chris Carr (versatility, tenure, and price tag get him signed here over josh)
7. Jameel McClain (CBA determines his status)

point is we have our own pieces to retain b4 signing the nigerian nightmare... not too mention we have to sign the best DT to a long term deal. that is priority number one!!!

so much for 'realism'. You envision us cutting McGahee, which probably counts against our cap, but yet you can't see us cutting Foxworth?

Were you one of the guys raining on my parade when I was advocating trading for Boldin, and said that was unrealistic too?

Well the reason why the Packers got those players is through their years of draft. Not free agent signing...

But it's not just not having to sign Wilson and Carr. If it was that easy then it will be done instantly after the lockout is ended. The reason why we won't sign Nnamdi is because if we sign Nnamdi then we won't have that cap space to sign all of the key free agents that we need to sign this year and next. A balanced and well rounded team is more important than one elite position.

And even if we do cut Foxworth, I doubt it will be enough to makeup for signing Nnamdi. I just doubt its going to happen. Hope it does, but it just doesn't make sense for our team

Really?? Their best CB got drafted there? News to me. What an eerie similarity wouldn't ya say? Or Ryan Grant, ot sure he was drafted by the pack.

Ryan Grant was an undrafted player. I'll give you Charles Woodson. But the point still remains. Through the draft is where the good teams build off of, not free agency. And that is a proven fact. The Ravens addressed their cb problems through the draft this year. It would be unnecessary to address the cb position again in free agency when they have other holes to fill.

True Grant played for another team before he got traded there. And I am pretty sure you have followed the ravens well enough to know that we MIGHT sign 1 free agent a year. And to be honest when we do we generally don't miss. So I would say That out of the 11 spots on D we drafted 8 , on O out of all of those we drafted 8 starters, On D Wilson, Redding, and Fox. On O Mase, Birk and Boldin. I would have to say when you look around the league the only people that might have more starters that they drafted is the pack, but don't kid yourself they haven't been afraid to make splashes in free agency either.

the draft is supplemented by other venues as well, such as when we traded for/signed free agents such as McNair, McGahee, Pryce, Mason, Rolle, Boldin, Foxworth, TO and quite a few other significant players.

So building exclusively from the draft is a false or misunderstood concept.

Can we go get Nnamdi now??,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

If we sign Nnamdi then it is pointless to bring wilson or carr back. We would have Nnamdi Jimmy smith, Webb, Chykie Brown and probably would keep Cary Williams.

People keep forgetting that the league is becoming a pass happy league. Look what happen to the steelers in the superbowl. They had all the passrush in the world, but there secondary got torch in the superbowl and by Tom Brady. Having a solid secondary is a must now because every QB is pass happy now. Signing Nnamdi is a one in a lifetime opportunity that we should not pass up if we can get him.

yessir. It's no coincidence that GB has the best secondary in the league last year and won the SB.
Obviously, the secondary wasn't the sole reason for it, but does a rookie like Clay Matthews look anywhere near as good on a defense where he has more responsibilities than just rushing the QB?

Thats what I want for Suggs and Kindle. I want them to focus on nothing but racking up sacks and giving run support when needed.

If we got nnamdi and just let kindle and suggs worry about the line of scrimmage and forward, it would become unfair really, really, really fast. Especially with ngata, cody, and redding soming that would be pure insanity.

Well then it's a good thing the Steelers still have the Ravens... Just kidding; I agree with what you're saying. It's a quarterback driven league, so stopping the guy under center is a big priority.

I have a great feeling Aso will sign with us for less than other teams like the Eagles or Cowboys offer.

Reuniting himself with his secondary coach who I'm sure is very familiar with him and like-wise.

Playing next to Ed and Ray who is arguably two of the greatest players ever at their respective positions and playing for a good back to a easily elite D with the signing of him ( I see us returning back to elite form without Aso under Pagano with the drafting of Smith and with Kindle being cleared to play and Cody and Redding along with McClain having another year of experience under their belts ).

Ravens being on the brink of winning it all for the last 3 years will definitely be the main factor in him wanting to come.

I would not be surprised if we got Aso.

I'm wondering if Ozzie is banking on the fact that the new CBA will reduce rookie salaries. Meaning Ravens won't have to pay J. Smith 1st round money like previous 1st rounders. That extra money could go toward Nnamdi. Just a thought.

I bet that the rookie wage scale the league places, will affect the first 15 picks more than the last 15 picks, so if thats the case then it wouldn't save us that much money

DO IT!!! Asomugha, Smith, Wilson, and Webb. Best backfield in the league! Eagles want Ike Taylor, not Aso. I feel like they would have been our only major competition for him. Dreams can come true.
