Any Volvo fans out there? Fly, you know anything about Volvos?

I have a buddy that works for a local Volvo dealership and they just got in a 2008 Volvo S80 with only 35k miles, NAV and all other options and he could let it go to me for WAY under value!!! About $8k under PRIVATE PARTY through NADA.

I may do it and give it to my wife (then take her X5 :D).

I know, I know....go ask a car forum. I don't want to ;)

Thoughts?

I've always liked the S80, a very understated and classy car, but still sexy in it's own way.I've happened to driven a couple later models, one was a half hour test drive a few years ago, the other was my ex's mom's.I'll get this out of the way....I know you're a Bimmer guy too (still sad you lost that sweet 745), so if you're buying this for your wife, make sure it's really for her and not the both of you. I say that because you will be disappointed if you hold it to the 7 Series standards. It has it's quirks, and is even more expensive to keep up on than most Bimmers. If this car was for ME, I wouldn't buy it, even considering the great deal. If it's for the wife and the little one, you should already have the check in the mail...assuming that she likes the car. It is great at what it is meant for (luxurious family car with emphasis on safety features). Just don't come cryin' when you need to find a shop to work on it lol...But just me personally, there are other cars I would rather have in the same price range (yes, I considered the price break you're getting), but my wants / needs may not be the same as yours..

Wait, if you're getting the X5 out of this, umm...I would be lying if I said I would not have an ulterior motive to buy this for her...just a thought lol

Ha, thanks for the insight. Yeah, the deal is too good to pass up, I think.

Going to take a look see tomorrow. The pics he sent are surprisingly nice and I am anxious to see it in person.

You're buying a three year old car? I don't believe it
[/quote]
Ha, yeah, it'll actually be the newest car I own, if I buy it. I don't tend to buy new.

Heck no, new is for suckers....2 - 4 years old is the way to go. By then you'll know what the problem areas are, and you wont pay full retail for the priviledge of finding that out on your dime.

Yeah, thats about where we tend to be when we buy a car. Only exception was the '77 CJ that I bought in '06 :)

ah, a CJ. What's the deal with that? Still a work in progress? Was just talking to a guy online last month, the nut dropped a 7.0L crate motor in it and lowered (!) it. Supposed to be his idea of a lowrider / track warrior.... Personally I think he ruined a fine vehicle.,,,,

Friend of mine tried to build one of these. Didn't go too well. How he managed to put in the crankshaft in backwards, I'll never know.

Watch out for random moose that'll try to get in your way.

Ha, yeah....we'll see

The NAV pops up from the middle of the dash. Pretty cool, although its just one more thing that can go wrong.

Never like Volvo until I drove one in Norway...in the winter. They handle just as good or better than any Saab, BMW or Benz IMO.

Considering the deal (both the cost of this one and the fact that I would be getting the wifes car), I think we are going to go for it.

Saabs are garbage; the Volvo def handles best of that group in the snow/ice/rain...but for fun in the mountains the Bimmers are still king.

Okay, take Saab out of the equation and I'd still rank BMW 3rd behind Benz and Volvo and I've driven the CRAP out of all three.

I have a G35x and a Tacoma (CJ7 as well, but it gets about 1k miles a year on it) that I drive.

Looking to sell the G35x (short lived) and buy the Volvo for the wife. Then, I take her X5 :)

Also have a '93 Mercedes 190e Sport Line, but that's another whole thread, ha!

Edit - I will NEVER EVER own a caravan/minivan!! EVER!!!!!!

BMW = Volvo's baby daddy.

But it's really kinda pointless to compare a Volvo to a BMW or Benz. Volvos are luxury cars that are sporty. Same with most Benz really. BMW are sports cars that offer some luxury.

Having see the photos of the aforementioned Volvo, and with the facts now in evidence, I say this appears to be a prime opportunity. Just be sure to get the complete history on the car before you make your purchase, and should you decide to go with it, then you're all set.
