New CBA Details Revealed

23 posts in this topic

Per sources at ESPN, some details of the new CBA have been revealed! I'd expect a new deal to be agreed upon within the next 2 weeks or so given this news.

One highlight is that the players will get 48% of "all revenue" without the owners skimming any money off the top. Sounds pretty fair to me....

Sounds pretty fair and I like the idea of a 10 year agreement. Not too happy with free agency after 4 years, though.

I'm none too pleased either, but will take it if that means we finally get a rookie wage scale.

I was a little surprised at the inclusion of the "teams are required to spend close to the salary cap limit" clause. Nonetheless, I would imagine that a deal must be quite close for these details to have been leaked. You gotta be happy with that.

Per the one and only awesome Adam Schefter Via twitter
More at ESPN: If and when agreement is reached, all players with 4, 5 and 6 years of service are expected to be unrestricted free agents. Franchise tags still good, though, right? ... There are expected to be franchise tags in next CBA,
Then couple minutes ago he tweeted this

Just to clarify: Any player with 4, 5 or 6 years of service -- whose contract is expired -- is expected to be an unrestricted free agent
Which means... we will have major Free Agency issues in terms of keeping our players. I mean Gaither, Yanda, Landry and whoever else will all have the chance to leave. Not what I wanted to hear, I was really expecting the 2010 Rules to be in place so the NFL wouldn't create the mess that is going to occur when Free Agency begins.

Yup, but I'm sure Ozzie and Co. have been working on contingency plans either way.

I'm certain Yanda will be back, and at a reasonable price. As for the rest, I view this as an opportunity to upgrade if guys like Landry leave. Remember, the Ravens aren't the only team out there who are affected by this.

In the back of my mind I always thought the league would keep the 2010 rules but I also figured that they would revert back to 4 years and wanted Ozzie and co to sign guys before the old deal expired.

So is there a list of all players from the Ravens who would become Free Agents with the deal going to 4 years?

Oh I know, Yanda I agree with that he will be back, I'm certain Landry will go but I think if we can sign Donte Whitner to replace Landry we'll definitely have a upgrade at SS. my main concern is trying to keep Jared Gaither.

Only guy i am worried about is ben grubbs, we CANT lose him.
He's still under contract with us through 2011. He'll become a Free Agent next year. Right now I just want us to keep Gaither, Yanda and maybe Le'Ron McClain.

So ray Rice would be a UFA after this season?
Yes, he signed a 4 year deal, and so with 4 years becoming the key to Free Agency yes he would but he'll be signed no doubt.

I wouldn't get too caught up in next year's Free Agents, just worry about guys like Landry, Gaither, Yanda, McClain or whoever else we could lose for THIS season.

Talks are going to continue tomorrow and Thursday according to Rotoworld.
Following Tuesday's owners meeting, commissioner Roger Goodell emphasized that the NFL owners are determined to reach an agreement with the players.

SI.com's Don Banks hears from a league source that the nine votes required to kill a proposed deal "just isn't happening."
Some lawyer said even though they are making a lot of progress, they are still far apart. Whatever that means. But it sounds like good moves are being made. And there might be an 18 game season. I'm just glad these guys are putting their egos aside and making progress.

I have the distinct feeling that we may see this deal reached and signed sometime this weekend. Based on what I am seeing from the media, this makes me look forward to the weekend.

I heard 3 weeks. Which would be the first or second week in July. I think they still have to workout some things like the length of the season. But its definitely sooner than later.

rumor its being printed as we speak will be inked after 5 owners get back from 4th of july vacation
Interesting, I guess the rumored Date of July 15th being the day the new league year officially begins may be right on track with the news you just said.

Wait... We have to wait until 5 owners get back from 4th of July Vacation??? There are 27 Other Owners in the League, can't they sign it so we can speed things up and have Free Agency by 4th of July?

Fat chance anything happens prior to the 4th of July... my July 15th prediction is still looking like the most likely date.
