Baltimore Stallions Reunion This Fall?

8 posts in this topic

There may be a reunion of the CFL's Baltimore Stallions this fall at former owner Jim Speros's Velocity Five restaurant in Falls Church, Virginia according to the Stallions Facebook page. The Baltimore Stallions were the only American team to win the Grey Cup in 1995 before moving to Montreal becoming the Alouettes after the move of the Ravens to Baltimore in 1996.

O.J. Brigance was the only player to win a Grey Cup and a Super Bowl playing for the same city!

I'm in favor of the reunion, however I think that it should be closer to Baltimore as that is where the team was located and it represented where most of the fans are located.

Anyone else have any ideas for a reunion or memories of the CFL in Baltimore?

being from canada and obviously a huge football fan, i love the cfl, having a team in my home town is great

i am actually curious as to what you guys have to say about the stallions and the cfl in general, did u guys go to games?, did u watch them?, did u follow the team like the football fanatic americans u r? haha

or was this term floated around a lot "the cfl is a sideshow" cuz even in canada ppl say that, im sure there were a lot of ppl in baltimore that felt that way, but in general how was the support for the team in the city?

From what I understand, fan support of the Stallions was very good, as the Baltimore faithful came out and showed support for their team, no matter what it was called.

I just wish I could have gotten to go to a game at the "Gray Old Lady on 33rd Street", Memorial Stadium, because it must have been magic to be there when the team was in action.

As for a Stallions reunion, that would also be a magical event, and I hope it comes off very well.

I went to about several games a year, the most sucessful US franchise was in Baltimore, I enjoyed the games, some fans wanted to get back at the NFL for ignoring us at the time. I wore my CFL Colts sweatshirt proudly. I remember the unofficial nickname was the "Horse with no Name" the first season. Had not the Ravens arrived in 1996, the Grey Cup would have been held in Baltimore, imagine how peeved the Canadian fans were at the Stallions winning in 1995, think how they would have felt if the Championship game were held in the U.S.A.

There are still some Baltimore fans who care about the CFL, a few hundred of them go to the Grey Cup every year. The Stallions-CFL's records belong to that franchise and did not move with the team to Montreal where they use the history and records of the Old Alouettes.

Although many of us now follow the Ravens, there are many fans who remember the CFL Stallions era of football in 1994-95!

thats awesome to hear, good to c they had a lot of support, i wasnt old enough to remember, woulda been like 11 or 12, and wasnt really into football at the time, but i do remember the team.

to me football is football, i can c y some ppl wouldnt like the cfl brand given the superior quality of player in the nfl, but its a different game, and should b appreciated for what is, its mind boggling to me in canada how many nfl fans here absolutely despise the cfl haha. but follow the nfl religiously.

The U.S. CFL expriment which lasted from 1993 to 1995, had a lot of failures, such as the Memphis Mad Dogs failure to market the team, a few stadiums where the end zones were shortened due not being able to fit a regulation field like Las Vegas and Memphis, hurting the passing game in goal line situations. Baltimore was sucessful because owner Jim Speros got coaches like Don Matthews who had been sucessful in the CFL, also players like Tracy Ham who had success in the Canadian game.

Here is a link that tells more about the U.S. C.F.L. Expriment

I was on vacation visting my family back home in Charm City and went to a Stallions game against San Antonio. I totally enjoyed it. The differences in the playing field, rules, etc... was a little confusing at times, but very entertaning to say the least! It was the night the teams official name was unveiled. I still have all the shirts I bought that trip and would never part with any of them. Winning the Grey Cup, to me was our way of flipping the bird to the NFL who always seemed not to hesitate to do it to us! Thank you Canada for at least giving us a chance at football again!
