Chad Pennington Situation

18 posts in this topic

Injury-riddled QB Chad Pennington, who played in the NFL for 11 seasons (2000-2010)an d was with the New York Jets (2000-2007) and the Miami Dolphins (2008-2010) says that he will take the 2011 season off to "evaluate his future." He will be a Fox Sports anylst. If Pennington really does go through with this, it is very unlikely that he will return to the field in 2012, at least not as a player. Pennington was a 2-time NFL Comeback Player of the Year Award winner (2006, 2008) and a 1-time NFL Ed Block Courage Award reciepian (2002), as voted by his teammates. He is also the NFL's all-time leader in completion percentage, although he never was voted to a single Pro Bowl.

I don't blame him, I mean with this lockout mess why not take off, heal up and come back when you know Football will be happening.

I don't think he's ever recovered from the spanking we gave him in the 2008 postseason.

Wow. You know what this COULD mean right? A new door has just opened. Supplemental draft... Terrell Pryor....Wildcat.... Possibilities? I mean i for one think Pryor may have better skill set and is more athletic then Chad Henne, but that is my opinion. Sure the Pat White thing didn't work out, but Pryor is different person.

With Pennington gone and Henne has a bad year or is benched. Who is starter? Tyler Thigpen? Tom Brandstater? Who the hell are those two guys? Honestly Pryor has issues, but he is very athletic and talented. Plus Pyror could probably bring in some money and sell some more seats.

Never. Wow, great play. Haloti leveling Ginn (I think) made it that much better.

If I'm not mistaken, Pennington hasn't started in a win since 12/28/08, when they beat Favre's Jets. That was the week before the spanking.

Pennington could certainly serve as a reasonable back-up to tutor a young QB and possibly take some emergency snaps, but to expect him to be successful as a starter is to assume that he can match his past success. His unexpectedly successful transition from the Jets to the Dolphins says it could happen, but his overwhelming injury history says otherwise.

Normally, I'd say taking a year off would be career suicide. But again, given his injury history, this move could actually be smart, making Pennington the possible exception to that rule.

Actually, I'm wrong. He took the first two snaps before getting injured when they beat the Titans last season. That was the week after we beat them, so essentially we got Henne benched, thus enabling Pennington to start...lol

Nonetheless, he's been a classy and team first type of guy. Wish him good luck in recovery.
