Haloti: DT or DE?

28 posts in this topic

Everyone always says Haloti is a DE, however on like 90% of the games I've seen he's always playing NT, obviously the Ravens move him around, but at 350 something pounds I think he's best suited for DT, mind you in a 3-4 Mt. Cody is not athletic enough to play DE, so if he can play NT, and we can move Haloti out to DE, can any tackle in the league block him? I don't think so. thoughts?

As you said they move him alot so I think its best we just say DL...I'm not sure we he plays his best though at NT, he doesnt give up an inch and amlost always disrupts the play by pushing his man in the backfield, at DE he holds the edge so well while moving his guy upfield, and at some of the inside DT spots he also excels..Then there is always the stand up role we see him in, I have seen him pop a couple of players in those fronts..however with our personnel with Cody and McKinney I think he will almost be a joker position on the DL as he moves around as one of the two clogs the middle.

To sum it up hes toooo good

Haloti Ngata: Most versatile and dominant interior defensive linesman would be a better choice of title. The truth is he is a DT/NT in that he can play anywhere along the three man defensive front as well as anybody.

I've also heard of the Ravens doing some wacky things with him like standing him up and dropping him into coverage. Then there's the few times that he's used on offense as well. The guy does it all.

Haloti can play as CB position too. His humongous body just overshadow the receivers which make them don't know which direction to run out of the Haloti's mace. :ICONATOR_01040da29c18a4eed76047

I'd call him a DT. Technically, he'd be a 3-4 DE, as he sees a lot of time at the 5, but he also plays the 3, the 1, the nose... etc.

Haloti can play wherever Haloti wants to play.We need to get rid of McClain and make him our goalline back. Imagine that, the first member of the 10 / 10 club: 10 sacks 10 TD in the same season

Remember when Jeff Saturday said that Haloti Ngata is athletic enough to play Free Safety?

Yeah. Enough said.

hmmm...Haloti playing press coverage sounds interesting. When he's not doing that, he can play QB and throw TD passes to himself too! I mean, you think Big Jen is tough to take down or Boldin and TO are good after the catch??

5 Technique Defensive Ends are really Defensive Tackles. What upsets me is when people call him a nose tackle....

But thats precisely what he is. According to "The Free Dictionary.com" a nose tackle is -A defensive lineman who lines up opposite the center, usually in a 3-person line Which is exactly what he does, so why does it bother you?

Ngata starts the game as at the 3 technique. Usually Gregg will start out at the nose. During passing downs, Ngata will line up over the center at times, but most often he'll be in the 3 technique.

Ngata is just a physical specimen who can play any position he feels like. Cant wait to see him locked up to be a Raven for life.

Ngata is a Defensive Lineman, plain and simple. Can do anything and everything on the D line.

How much more dominant will Ngata become once guys like Kindle and Cody come into their own. Kindle and Suggs collapsing the pocket from the outside will force QB to step up into Ngata.

Cody and McKinney developing their run stopping ability will remove a lot of double teams from Ngata.

Then if the secondary can force the QB to hold the ball for a couple seconds longer, Ngata will become an even more dominant pass rusher.

I know the offense is starting to get more attention, but I'm really liking the potential of this young defense.

Lets put it this way... Defensive Tackle in a 4-3.... Defensive End in a 3-4. He also can play FB, Guard, maybe Offensive Tackle, like someone said he is so flexible that he could play any position.... imagine him catching a pass from Joe for a TD. Ngata can probably do it all.

I'm just foaming at the mouth at the thought of Ngata and Cody taking up the whole offensive line allowing Suggs/JJ/Kindle/Ray/McClain to free roam at the QB all at once lol.

Usually Haloti is a DE in a 3-4. The best 3-4 DE in the league hands down. He's a DT when there are 4 down linemen. He's a NT when he lines up over the center. Basically - he's just a BEAST.

What games are you watching in 90% of games Gregg, Cody or Mckinney is NT. And in the Ravens D Ngata's position is listed as DT, not DE, Redding is listed as a DE. Despite the monikers however, Ngata almost always lines up on the right side so he is matched up with the left guard or left tackle. pay more attention next time

Yeah, Haloti rarely lines up over the center. When he does its usually when we are just using 2 DL and a bunch of corners or backers but even that is rare.

ya know for all the things that we would like to fix, it is nice to know that Haloti Ngata is so good that nobody in the league could use this guy to his full potential right now. Hopefully pagano can but how do you use somebody who could almost play any position on the field and be a force. It is nice to have a guy that good. If cody has a break out year then our front seven could be devestating. After next years draft it could almost be impossible to stop. If we got Te'o (my favorite ILB coming out next year) or Vontaze Burfict to play when Ray is gone would be tremendous, and our d would be tremendously young.

I like to see Ngata right in the middle as NT on our D line.
He is the best player on the D line and we build everybody else around him.
I think his ability to pick up 2 blockers makes him the Nt on this team...

Ngata is certainly capable of playing NT with his size, strength, and leverage. However, we have other players like Cody and McKinney who have great ability at NT as well. IMO Ngata is more dominant when he plays the 3 or 5 and can really penetrate or take up blockers to allow our LBs to make plays. Basically, Ngata is capable of playing anywhere along the line and that is part of what makes him so special.

He doesn't fit a typical position label... Much like how for most his career Richard Seymour was listed as DT, then a DE but he plays across the line at any position... That is what makes players like Ngata so unique coaches can't just scheme for them because they don't know where they will line up each play...

Other players that do this often are Julius Peppers and Justin Tuck.. Match up nightmares...
-Reggie White used to really wreck havoc in the inside and outside of d-line...
