What Teams Do You Think Have The Best Secondary?

27 posts in this topic

We have best DB in the league with Ed Reed and drafted Jimmy Smith to be our next great defender. Our secondary looks rather promising this year and for the future. I was just wondering what other fans think.

The Packers definitely have the best secondary in my opinion.

Williams is a stud, Woodson is still a quality player, Shields is a capable nickel and Collins is the best safety in the league that few people talk about.

I'm wondering how the Rams seconrdary will look this year without Atogwe. Bartell plays similar to McAlister and their other CBs have good combinations of size and speed. I think Darian Stuart will grab a starting spot at saftey. Rookie Jermale Hines, Craig Dahl, and James Butler should compete for the other spot. Hines could also spend time at LB in cover situations.

The Seahawks have a great young saftey tandom for the future. Eral Thomas is already one of the better playmakers in the league. Kam Chancellor will be a great compliment at SS. Thomas will make more spectacular plays but Chancellor will be just sa important for their team.

Chancellor reminds me of a hard hitting safety. He's almost like a LB. Seahawks add a couple of good corners, and they'll be in biz. Still can't believe we got a steal from them in Josh Wilson haha

I will say the Packers have the best secondary as well, but if we are including rookie Corners and Safeties, than I think Arizona would have the best secondary with DRC, and Patrick Peterson shutting things down.

I thought about the Cardinals. DRC and PP will be special but I don't trust their other DBs. Adrian Wilson is relagated inthebox and Kerry Rhodes is your normal SS trying to play FS. Their depth at CB is also questionable after DRC and PP. If they could find a designated FS and another solid CB or 2, I would defintely give them more consideration.

I think the Redskins have the best safety tandem and if DeAngelo shadows the number 2 and they get a true number 1 corner, they would be amazing.

Atogwe and Landry will beast it up together.

They do. Atogwe is my 3rd best playmaking FS in the league.(Ed, Nick Collins) Dawan's little brother is also a top 10 SS.

I don't think I would pick any duo over Joseph and Hall.

But the Packers secondary is probably the best in terms of the entire unit.

My top 5.

1.Packers
2.Ravens
3.Patriots
4.Broncos
5.Chiefs

Wouldn't put the Broncos there myself. Aside of Champ, who is still very good, they don't have any above average players. Brian Dawkins was horrible in coverage and in run support at times last season. They did just draft Rahim Moore and another safety whose name I've forgotten but I still don't think they are a top 5 secondary.

There are a number of teams who I think have a better secondary. The Jets, Cardinals, maybe even the Chargers come to mind.

Even against secondary WRs, he'd still find a way to get toasted.

The Packers always field a good unit. I'm jealous of how they can continually get their corners to play well.

I just like their blend of young and old talent. I think Perrish Cox and Syd'Quan Thompson will be solid under the tutelage of Champ. Dawkins isn't the player he was during his career but he is still a good player. His best attribute will be mentoring their group of young safeties. Rookies Rahim Moore and Quinton Carter(Oklahoma) aswell as Darcel McBath are the Broncos future. This topic is for your opinion of this season and the next 3-5 seasons. I just think their young DBs give them a promising future.

That's fair enough. I suppose you could say that they do have a few guys with potential, along with the fact that they are being taught by one of the best ever at the position. They could well be set for a good few years to come. I personally just feel that top 5 secondary in the league is a bit of a push.

If the Jets resign Cromartie they're in my top 5. Even though I think their safety play is suspect their CBs are just too good.

The Cards are going through what the Skins went through when they had Sean Taylor and Adam Archuleta. They were playing 2 SS and didn't have designated a FS. Kerry Rhodes is not a FS. He is a top 10 SS but Wilson is in the top 3. With Wilson as one of the top SS and 2 talented CBs the Cards secondary looks good. IF they find a FS and add quality depth CB I would think more highly of them.

As for the Chargers one name...Jerome Simpson. Their entire defense just seems to be off at times. They have the talent but never consistantly play well.

Yeah, Revis and Cro is pretty immense, although they could easily lose Cromartie this offseason which would knock them down a bit.

The Cards have PP, DRC (two pretty elite starters) and Greg Toler who I think will be good in the slot for them. Like you said, Wilson is a very good SS so their secondary has 3 very good starters and also some decent players.

The Chargers are plagued with inconsistency, although Jammer, Weddle and Cason on paper are pretty good. Not to mention they just signed Bob Sanders who, if healthy (a big if to be fair) will make a great impact for them.

The Raiders have a nice collection of young safeties. It may have taken Michael Huff a few years but he has becom one of the better safeties in the league. Tyvon Branch is a solid safetey aswell. Then there is Michael Mitchell. The kid is a monster on the field, he just hits anything that moves.

Cox is talented but he could potentially go to jail is he's convicted of sexual assault.

I have to believe that although the Eagles may not have an Earth-shattering secondary, just the presence of Asante Samuel in their defensive backfield makes them that much adept at making a big play when it counts.

Dolphins have good secondary with Vontae Davis and Steve Smith.
Yeremiah Bell is also a solid player.

I like Davis but he missed way too many tackles last season.

To me if the jets resign Cro then it is hands dow the jets. Revis, Cro, Wilson (who in my estimation will be very good especially at the nickel), and Jimmy.
