Yet Another List Of QB Rankings

36 posts in this topic

Pat Kirwan from NFL.com has made a list of QBs by sorting them into seven tiers of five each.

Here's the link.

Obviously I'm going to complain about the usual things, such as Eli (INT machine), Romo (playoff choke artist) and Ryan (should be ranked equal to Flacco) being ranked a tier higher than Flacco, who is grouped with the likes of Freeman and Bradford, who have just the one good year to go on.

Wow if I was Flacco I'd be pissed...did they really rate Sam Braford ahead of him?
If you watch the NFL Network at all, which NFL.com is tied to, you would know they all have huge man-crushes on Sam Bradford. I don't get it either, the kid couldn't get past a pathetic Seahawks defense and Charlie Whitehurst to get to the playoffs in the worst division in the league. I'm not saying Bradford is bad or there's no way he won't grow to be better than Joe, but to rank him better than the only quarterback to win a playoff game each of the last three years is ridiculous. Ryan and Flacco are basically identical in every stat except playoff wins, so to rank Flacco on a different tier than Ryan is ridiculous.

Flacco gets no love from analysts and even some fans, but after he wins a Super Bowl they'll all hop on the bandwagon.

I doubt even if he wins a SB this year they will give his due credit.

Having looked it through, the tiers are the only method of ranking. Within tier, they are listed alphabetically. So they don't rank Bradford higher than Flacco, but they do rank them in the same tier.

I still think I could argue until I was blue in the face that Flacco deserves to be in the second tier rather than the third, but like Milton said, I don't know when they will give him as much credit as they do Ryan, even though they have similar careers so far.

That is really piss poor. I'd take someone who does not have the flashy numbers but is steady and doesn't choke at the wrong time over the flashy numbers but a choke artist and turnover machine ANY DAY.

Exactly. Couldn't agree more.

If you read the article it says its in Alphabetical Order per Tier. So Bradford is in his same Tier but no one said he is ahead of him...

I'm not saying put Flacco above Eli but just don't put Eli in a class above Flacco. I honestly see them to be both in the same tier.

Pretty sure Flacco could have done what Eli did to win the Super Bowl. He rode a running game that was averaging 5 yards a pop as a unit, and a defensive line that had arguably the best playoff run Ive seen with my own eyes. I dont agree with Ryan being ahead of Flacco either. Ryan played poorly in his only 2 appearances in the playoffs and hasn't won a game yet. He also plays in a division with some extremely mediocre defenses.

I agree with Eli(a former SB MVP at the end of the day) and Romo(Has been good longer) being higher than Flacco, but no way is Ryan in a class above Flacco.

But that was before he became an interception freak and before Flacco was even in the league.

Thats one year, and at the end of the day Eli has a SB MVP in his resume. Not a "defense and running game" rider.

Eli is the better QB by a slight margin at the moment. But all Flacco needs is a pro-bowl type year to surpass him. And thats assuming Eli doesn't bounce back next year.

Eli didn't even deserve his Super Bowl MVP in my opinion. I would have given it to Justin Tuck.
That seems to be the case for most SB's. The QB always seems to get the MVP.

Flacco should be in group B obviously, Matt Ryan is in there, their numbers are almost identical but Joe has accomplished more with less weapons at WRs to this point in his career. Sam Bradford gets a lot of love for having a good rookie year...hmmmm, Joe went to the AFC CHampionship game, Joe has done real well, set all kinds of records, most wins in his first 3 years starting, etc. Does he get love? HAHA NO

It's been well-deserved the past two SB's but I didn't think Eli or Peyton should have got the award.

I guess they're just comparing Flacco in his rookie season to Bradford in his. I can only imagine. I mean Bradford set a single season record for completions for a rookie and did a lot more with a lack of quality receivers. Flacco's rookie season saw him ride the running game and throw for only 2971 yards.

However, who is better at this moment in time? Joe Flacco.

Even though Eli has his MVP award for the Superbowl, I still couldn't personally justify him being a tier above Flacco. He throws far too many INTs to be given that acclaim.

My tier two would be Flacco and Eli swapping places. I don't think I would put Bradford in tier three, but that's not to say that he wasn't tremendous as a rookie nor that I believe he won't continue to grow as a player.

Hes been an excellent QB for longer. Sure hes had very little playoff success, but anyone who knows football will tell you hes a damn good QB.

Now if he could be provided with a consistent D and o-line, I'd like to see what he can do.

Not that it really matters; Bradford belongs nowhere near Flacco.

I think Romo still edges out Vick, but another 2010 type year could change my opinion.

The thing with Romo is he plays on a team with unfair expectations. If he played for a team like KC, or Detroit, he'd be beloved. Other than this season, hes never had a losing season, he has an amazing pass yard attempt/yard per ratio, and has a 99.0 average as a 4th quarter QB rating. I hate Dallas as much as the next guy, but you can't let your hate for the team blind you in terms of not realizing how good he is.

But I respect your opinion as well.

Bradford > Sanchez

I think Bradford will have a better year this year, dont see a slump happening. I think Bradford and Flacco will be top 5 QBs one day.

That's shocking to me considering the number of 4th quarter interceptions he seems to throw.
