Flacco.......looked Good?!?!?!?!

100 posts in this topic

he got better as the evening progressed.

As some one said elsewhere.

Give him a clip board for this season.

Let him learn from Troy and Kyle.

He is NOT ready to start. Not with the level of oppoents we have ahead of us.

Given time and training.

He well could be all that.

With the whole Flacco thing, I look at it like this: At what point do we say "OK Joe, go get 'em!"? The best way to learn is to play. Personally I think that the advantage Kyle or Troy may have over Flacco right now would quickly disappear if Flacco were taking every snap.

Remember Flacco's first game when he was completely overwhelmed? He could have easily done worse the next game after an experience like that (it pretty much was like throwing him into the fire). Well the next game he almost ties the game. Then we see him put a beautiful drive together and he gets his first TD pass. That tells me he is very mentally strong. So fears that he could be like Boller if he started may be exaggerated. It is very encouraging to see him progressing. However there are problems...

You could argue 0 turnovers, but there were a few throws that were definitely forced and had me holding my breath. Also, besides Mason, who can Flacco throw to? Mark Clayton had one catch the entire game!

His touch and timing still need work. Funny, I saw him barely try to move his arm (like really restraining himself) and he still overthrows the receiver :P.

Then again, I still don't want him to start. Boller and Smith should step up, now that a rookie has outplayed both of them.

I wasn't disappointed in Flacco. Give the guy a break. He is a rookie and needs time to develop. Considering he wasn't prepared to play a whole game, he played pretty damn well. IMO everyone is panicking because our two veteran QB's aren't showing anything, so we want a Savoir to come in and save the day. It's not realistic. Give Flacco time, he will be fine.

uhh, we have one veteran QB and two rookies. troy has only started 2 regular season contests, yet he is held to a different standard than flacco is right now. he has to perform right now and win the starting job against a qb that has played 6yrs in the NFL. i know that QB is kyle boller, but i'm sure he still knows a lot more about NFL defenses than troy does.

What if Flacco is one of those QBs that get better the more they play? some guys need continuous reps to get into a groove.

Well it also helped that the defensive backups came in..

Well, to an extent, that's how he was at Delaware when he was still learning the offense. He started off slow, but was a fast learner, and when he knew what he was doing, he really knew what he was doing. He's extremely intelligent, and I think that'll ease some of the mental growing pains he'll have.

Well it also helped that the defensive backups came in..

True, but to be honest, I'll take any shred of optimism I can get right now before Week 1. And for comparison, he certainly played with more poise against those 2nd-tier defensive backups than Boller did last week, or arguably Smith the week before.

I'll take any bright spot from the Offense, too. He made some great throws, the TD pass to Derrick Mason in the redzone, that was incredible. I'm just trying to keep a sense of realism and "the big picture" out there; not that anyone's overreacting... yet

arguably Smith the week before.

I don't think there is any "arguably" about it. He's has showed more promise than the other 2, and has protected the ball as well.

Eh, not really. I'm definitely excited in what I saw from him, yes. And yes, I do think he has outplayed both of the other QB's. Yes, I'm excited. But if you look at previous posts of mine, I'm not a fan of Kyle or Troy so I can't really be called a bandwagon-er :P

Umm, every post of mine is about Flacco, and how he shows more promise than BOTH of the other QB's on the team, not just your goldenboy.

Do you see Troy Smith in my member name or a picture of him or something in my posts? You're assuming he's my "goldenboy" because I am defending a member of my team? I like all of our QBs, all of them can bring something to the table so to speak for this team, and it's just getting old seeing you picking apart Troy and Kyle on here. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and I respect yours but it's almost to the point where you're beating a dead horse in every single one of your posts.

Good point! But someone has to combat all the pro-Smith talk given that he hasn't proven ANYTHING in the NFL. Apparently I haven't beaten it enough because people are still talking about them :P In all seriousness though, I like to play devil's advocate. And as I've said many times before, If Kyle OR Troy prove me wrong I will publicly apologize. Fair enough?

I could also make the point that Flacco has had 1 preseason game similar to one of Troy's starts from last year so what has he proven? But I'm not gonna go further down that path, I liked what Flacco did last night considering all the circumstances, I'm excited to see what he can do as the season progresses

I admit that playing devil's advocate is fun as well, I have done it in different circumstances myself heh. There's really no harm in other people's opinions and I usually don't criticize others' opinions so maybe I overreacted because I perceived it as someone ripping not neccessarily Troy or Kyle but a member of my football team. And I will always defend them in that situation (unless maybe it's Frank Walker they're attacking, haha). But yeah, sounds fair enough, I still fully support whoever of the three is named starting QB.

It hasn't been brought up much, but no one should think anything of Flaccos first start. I dont care who the QB is , no one can be expected to do anything when the pocket collapses in 2 seconds... Flacco has improved everytime out so far... nothing more you can ask for go ravens

In my opinion i think Flacco looked aweful... I know he's a rookie but I mean he looked like one of those kids in like highschool that grew way too fast and looks completely uncoordinated... Lets not forget this kid was our 1st round pick... I expected to see alot more from him...i mean his passes were all over the place... i dont care if your a rookie, you should be able to complete wide open passes... he had two passes that lead us down the field for a TD but you could see he simply lobbed the ball up and Mason did all the work... I just dont understand how people can come off saying he showed alot of promise after that game? I respect that opinion, i just dont agree... to me he looked slow... uneasy..unsure... didnt look like he was confident...didnt look like a "leader"... didn't look like much...just looked like a kid playing against men.... just my opinion... things could change and I'm definately not trying to bash him or anyone elses opinion... he's got a loooong way to go

Two words:

Rookie, Preseason

That goes for both the negative posters and the overly optimist posters. He had a solid game, nothing spectacular, nothing warranting an immediate position. He was just solid. He made some good plays, he made some not-so-good plays. You can't read too much into his performance because of those two words.

Yes as Im fully aware... but i like to also remember this...#1 draft pick...

i didnt say he would not become a good player i just simply said he didnt impress me at all and i didn't understand how people could say he shows so much promise... the way I look at it is this... he made some terribly inaccurate passes... he looked like a statue in the pocket.... i think I'd rather deal with him throwing a pick or turning the ball over cause those are "rookie" mistakes... i feel inaccuracy and slow feet are bigger problems...

LOL if you think Flacco looked bad, then what word expalins the other two QB's? Troy Smith has played like_________? ( A high school QB )

Kyle Boller has played like____________? ( Crap, same ol' same Kyle Boller. )

Funny that i figure you to be a Troy Smith fan, Last week Smith missed Clayton on a EASY slant pass, Then He just wanted to RUn while Mason was wide open. Least have some Faith in our future, because we dont have one in either Smith or Boller.
