I'd be all for it, assuming they put a clause in the contract disabling fans to clamor for him to start if Flacco sneezes incorrectly.

Before I even looked at that link I though Kerry Collins would be a good fit. He knows the pressures of being a 1st round "face of the franchise" QB, he's seen rock bottom, rebuilt himself into a damn good teammate and professional, and still has a good arm. Actually I think me and ER20 were talking about Flacco being compared to Kerry Collins in general. Collins could still step in for a 3 game stretch and we wouldnt be completely doomed, he knows how to take care of the ball on run first defensive teams. Id take him in heartbeat as a backup.

The best option possible, but could very well be picked up by a team like the Niners or Cardinals and I'd prefer Bulger just because of his familiarity with the Offense.

Kerry Collins would be an ideal backup IMO. As others have stated he has big-game experience, and he still has a strong arm. I think he could definitely fill in for Flacco without having a huge drop-off.

The only thing that kept Collins from being a high level QB for 10 years is he makes some really really weird decisions with the ball sometimes. He's pretty inconsistent, especially if his Oline is susceptible to pressure. His better years were with the Giants in 2000-2002 and if I remember correctly his Oline was pretty solid in front of him. The Titans in 2008 definitely had one of the better Olines in the NFL that year.

Flacco, Collins, Tyrod?
Not too shabby. We just need Flacco to step up his game a little bit more and I think we can finally take care of business in the AFC North.

Well, with some proper oline execution and correct offensive play calling, that just may happen

I don't see Bulger coming back either. As someone said, he's seen the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. That's the veteran experience that is oh so valuable.

38 year old Collins? wow! it's amazing how that we scream for the team to get younger and yet, the Ravens organization seems to want to keep bringing in these old relics. smh!

Did you read the article? Its for a backup to Flacco. These days, its common place to not have a first or second year player be backing up your QB god forbid he goes down.

Numerous teams around the league have old QBs as their backup.

How would a reserve QB's age play even matter? God forbid that Flacco ever has to sit out due to injury. But if that happens, and we need someone to fill Flacco's shoes for a couple of weeks, I'd much rather have a savvy QB who's familiar with every situation as opposed to a younger QB who is still developing and learning the game.

Collins is probably the best option at backup QB available due to his experience. I'd feel much better about sending him into a game or two if Flacco went down than Tyrod Taylor or anyone else on the market, other than Hasselbeck or Bulger.

It would be ironic if he wound up grabbing a Super Bowl ring from the team that absolutely destroyed him in his previous Super Bowl appearance.

and also Flacco steppin it up in big games would help too but of course its everyone else's fault besides Flacco right? The play callin was bad at times but so was Flacco's decision making, which has nothing to do with the offensive play calling.

Tired of when people bring up something with Flacco there's always someone pointing out "the oline" or "play callin" which was quite obvious if you watched this past season.I mean really the oline had troubles? was the play callin bad? wow I didnt know this!

Id much rather have a veteran back up,let's say Flacco got injured would you rather have a first year player who never played step in or a vet with experience.Remember we are a contender and the vet option for a year would make much more sense

Personally, I would rather take a chance on Vince Young than Kerry Collins. He's a headcase, but unlike Collins, he knows what he's doing and can still do it.

just a thought but when drew stanton played in relief of stafford, he did a pretty good job. Also Seneca Wallace did not do a bad job either, he just always got stuck behind someone who is garbage and he was looked at as more of a runner than a pocket passer but he also has a live arm, that can make all the throws just needs to be given an opportunity.

I certainly wouldn't be opposed to having Collins as a backup to Flacco. If something (knock on wood) were to happen to Flacco, we definitely need a backup who is experienced enough to come in and take care of the football.
This is another tricky part of this whole lockout situation, because if business was running as usual right now, there could have been some QB's released by teams prior to or after the draft, so there may have been a few more options out there.
Another reason why we need a Veteran back up is that there may be no training camp or pre season this year. What happens if Flacco goes down in the first game, and we have to send in a rookie who hasn't had any rookie camps, mini camps, training camp, reps in practice, nothing? Disaster is what would most likely happen. At least a veteran QB could have experience running the same style offense, could take a snap and hand the ball off, make the safe throws, and at least be prepared. All hope wouldn't be lost completely. So I say if it's Collins or Bulger or anybody else who could be effective in that situation is fine by me!

As long as the backup is a decent vet with a large amount of experience, I don't care much who it is - but I'd like it if Collins was Joe's backup.

No doubt I think Collins would be a great mentor to Flacco and better than Bulger. He'd be a good backup, but I'd still look deep into Bruce Gradkowski. Not only did he play pretty well with the Raiders, but if I'm not mistaken, he's somewhat known for being one hell of a competitor. No way would he come near the starting job without an injury to Flacco, but hopefully the competitive spirit could rub off on Joe (not that he doesn't already have any, just saying).

One of those two would be my choice.

I think Kerry Collins is the perfect backup to Flacco. I believe Kerry would be the perfect backup more so for what he could teach a still developing Flacco, with is mind and experience, rather then for what he'd provide if Flacco got hurt.

Collins has been through a lot of up and downs good and bad in the NFL. Collins and Flacco are about the same size and have the same attributes, although Flacco is much more talented. Right now what Flacco seems to struggle with the most is, keeping his mechanics true, timing on deep routes, and just getting the ball out of his hands quicker. I think Collins does all of these things well and would be able to give Flacco a different, probably better perspective on how to improve in these areas then any coach can.

Another really good thing about adding Kerry is his experience dealing with defenses like the Steelers and Colts over the last 5-7 years of his career. Those are two teams that the Ravens will definitely have to overcome in order to get to where we want to be. Also Flacco has had his fair share of troubles with both of those defenses. So Collins could possibly add some much valued information to Flacco during the week in meeting room and on the practice field about how to beat certain things that the Colts and Steelers look to do.

Again like I said before, Collins is pretty much the same size as Flacco, but Collins has a much quicker release. Joe could definitely learn how to keep him mechanic consistent and speed up his delivery from a guy who's his size and probably dealt with the same issues early in his career as Joe does.

I had to give you a plus 1 on that because we all know it would be true.

Bruce Gradkowski is a good back up option.
[/quote]

Yeah Plus he also knows how to beat the Steelers late in the game!
