seriously dont think we would, we have to resign ngata, flacco, rice, and other key positions not to mention the rookie contracts, so no I really doubt we would with the kind of paychecks those guys are going to command, which proves my point I would rather have those 3 guys then one perennial pro bowler.

You seriously doubt that if either of those teams offered us one of the Johnsons for free that we wouldn't pounce on the opportunity? Be serious.

He said for free or for a 1st. I knew you were being serious. Andre Johnson will be making $6 for the next 4 years. That doesn't exactly sound unfeasible.

I have to commend you guys. Really good read, excellent debate!

I'm of the opinion that you don't need a #1 receiver if all your receivers compliment one another. You still need that speed / deep threat guy as well as your possession type receivers. But, success comes with the schemes, the plays called and how they are used. It's a must to play to your receivers strengths and you have to spread the ball around to keep D's guessing and off balance. This will also help to dial down the blitz we've seen too much of last season. We proved that can work well in last years playoff game against K.C. Yet, pertaining to a video someone posted this past week, we go into Pitt, run a 4 wide set, send everyone deep and Joe throws a pick. No one underneath with the middle of the field wide open, where's the logic in that?

Torrey Smith has what it takes to be a starter. He has the natural speed and hands, and he just has to tweak his route running. His work ethic is great as well.

I think Reed and Doss have an equal Opportunity to become Flacco's Chain moving, possession receiver type guy (similar to Mason). I think torrey could be a great deep threat / slot but how many teams number one receiver is a speedster? Besides the eagles (and the former Bengals when Chad was a star) MOST teams use a possesion guy as a #1.

GB has donald driver (Up until recently)
NE has Wes Welker
INDY has Reggie
Pitt has Ward
Texans have Andre (who is fast so this is iffy because he's both a great possession receiver and deep threat)
Miami has Marshall
Arizona has Larry (same as Andre)
Vikings have Sidney

etc etc

Bears for example have tons of speedsters but no possession guy besides Olsen. Having a guy who can catch every ball but doesn't necessarily blow anyone away is just as important as a guy who can get down the field. You need that diversity amongst your receivers as a whole.
