Clutch Ravens

Black And Yellow

Seeing as this song was released in September last year I'm completely failing to understand why it's suddenly become popular in the charts over the last while. Seriously, why has it caught on all-of-a-sudden?

It's played non-stop on the Radio in the UK and there are people wondering up and down the streets singing along to it.

What, exactly, made it so damn popular?

Seeing as how you're overseas, the song was a huge hit in the U.S. as soon as it came out because of the minimalist beat and, eventually, the association with the Pittsburgh Steelers. It went viral when other rappers started rapping over the beat and making their own remixes, and then, the Steelers' use of it at home games made it even more popular Stateside.

It's only just now gotten popular internationally because of its proliferation in other avenues of pop culture, and its appeal is largely in its simplistic, easy-to-remember chorus.

The same argument could be applied to Tinie Tempah's "Pass Out" and how it only recently became popular on the U.S. scene over the past year, when the song's almost two years old.

Also funny how every time a Pittsburgh fan calls out the Ravens' purple as being "..feminine", I retort that they are wearing yellow and a bedazzled helmet. They then say that it's gold.

6 months later they are waving their stupid towels around singing "black and yellow, black and yellow...".

I like the song, but I just really dislike the meaning of it (all out tribute to the Steelers). When I was watching the Ravens - Steelers game the 5th of december live, I hoped for a Black & Purple version, lol!

But if you listen to the lyrics he's on about his car and jewellery. Not the Steelers! It just happened to fit because he's from Pittsburgh and it's the same colours. Not sure if its a coincidence or if Wiz meant the connection but that's what I think when I listen to the song. :P

Yep. It has nothing to do with football, just the title.

At least Lil Wayne's "Green & Yellow" was about football.

Yeah, the song isn't about the Steelers, per se. It's about Pittsburgh, in general. All of their sports teams wear black and yellow... color coordination :sarcasticclap:

I like "Green and Yellow's" concept, but the song itself wasn't put together very well. It might have been because Wayne was in jail at the time, so he didn't have his "confidence", but man, a 15 year old could have wrote that. Only reason why it blew up was because he made it.
