Matt Ryan: Better Than You Think

He only completed 62.5% of passes, good for 13th in the league.

He only threw for 3,705 yards, something just eight quarterbacks bettered.

He only managed 28 touchdowns, five others had more.

He, of course, is Matt Ryan. And he’s a player fans and media pundits alike seem to be divided on.

This is a ok article to read... This explains to some who think matt is a little over -rated... Why some think highly of him.

Just wanted to see what you guys think.. Check out the article.

Matt Ryan wasn't on the board when we were drafting. Flacco, the 2nd best, was. I have no problem with Ryan. They both will have long careers

Matt Ryan is a good QB, I dont think anyone will dispute that on this board. I think he and Flacco are both solid but not yet elite QBs. Ryan has one thing over Flacco that I like and that's going through his progressions quicker and more efficiently than Flacco. Other than that I can't say one is obviously better than the other. Id like to see Ryan goto Pittsburgh in the dead of winter and throw against that defense, its not so easy lol.

Ill never get over the fact that Ryan was the ONE guy Ozzie was going to mortgage the future for in Ozzie's what 16/17 year stint as GM? Not even because I dont think Ryan is good, just Ozzie never mortgage's for ANYBODY.

I still think what I've always thought. Matt Ryan is a good QB. Flacco is a good QB. As of right now, I don't think one is better than the other but if pushed I'd choose Flacco because he has performed against tougher defenses, without the benefit of half (or more) of his games inside a dome, and has gone to the playoffs all three years he's started (and won some of those playoff games).

And you've really just proven the fact that many of us lament. Ryan is the media's darling boy. No way he belongs that high.

I think you get the idea that we don't like the Falcons or Ryan. That is not the case IMO. Our disgust is with the media touting on him while Flacco gets no love, only criticism. Perhaps some comparisons of those stats your quoted article threw around might help put in perspective our frustration.

Matt Ryan: Better Than You Think

He only completed 62.5% of passes, good for 13th in the league. Flacco only completed 62.6% of his passes.

He only threw for 3,705 yards, something just eight quarterbacks bettered. Flacco only threw for 3622 yards. Roughly 80 yds less but he had roughly 80 less attempts as well.

He only managed 28 touchdowns, five others had more. Flacco managed 25. Without any speed in his WR corp and no real deep threat and 80 less attempts.

He, of course, is Matt Ryan. And he’s a player fans and media pundits alike seem to be divided on.

I'd add one more stat: Ryan's passer rating : 91.0 Flacco's : 93.6.

Yeah, that's the only problem some ravens fans have. Ryan being the "Chosen One", while Flacco is the red headed stepchild.
What's crazy is that a lot of our OWN fans treat Flacco like that. The guy is on the brink of being elite, but people still dog him for god knows what reason.

Yes, even some Ravens' fans are guilty of the same. After debating with some though, I've discovered many don't really know football, though they enjoy watching it. They just spew the same old from the media pundits.

+1 for that

I think Flacco and Ryan are on the same level, just on the brink of elite as other people have said. Ryan just has a better offense around him imo. I believe he will have a better offense around him this year too, but i hope I'm wrong.

It's something I haven't quite understood. I support Flacco wholeheartedly because of what he has brought to this team and what he has pulled off in three years. Yes, he's had bad games, bad plays, and has frustrated me, but at the end of the game, I still want him playing as a Raven.
