Terp Basketball

I really can't explain why but ever since Gary stepped down, my interest in Terp basketball has increased.

I didn't watch a Maryland game last season, barely knew the names of more than a few players, and being aware of their struggles, I was never encouraged to seriously follow them. My interest in college basketball overall has usually been limited to the occasional regular season game and March Madness.

But after listening to Gary's retirement press conference and Turgeon's introductory presser, something drew me in and I've done some "research" on the roster, assistants and recruiting.

It's more than likely going to be a long season for Maryland hoops next season but what Turgeon has done in such a short amount of time has been impressive. Getting top Baltimore prospect Nick Faust to recommit yesterday was huge and landing 2012 recruit Seth Allen was a nice start to what will be his first true recruiting class. Turgeon has also done a great job compiling his staff.

Despite the inevitable problems, I'm excited for next season.

Gary has always been known as a terrible recruiter. That's why I wanted a big name coach to come in to maybe attract some out of state stars and keep some in state stars, in state. Turgeon isn't who I had in mind, but hey it's working so far.

Agreed. Not only does Turgeon appear to be a good recruiter, he's being lauded for hiring assistant coach Dalonte Hill.

Good finds dude. Only negative thing I've heard about him was the fact he was very below average in big games. But, so was Maryland the last few years.

Teams didn't play well. Well, at least they didn't win the bigger games like against Texas.

That's understandable. Texas has been pretty good in recent years with guys like Durant, Dexter Pittman, Tristan Thomspon and Jordan Hamilton, among others.

It wasn't in the ACC but at least Turgeon was perennially in the tourney while coaching A&M.
