I think you misread it. I think it was meaning he wont be playing saturday not the season opener.

I just hope that if he needs to take another week off and miss the opener instead of coming back hurt that its worth it in the long run.

I'd rather have him play 15 games this season than play 2 and get hurt worse.

True...but I'd selfishly like to see him play the opener, only 'cause I'll be there.

Seriously, though, I'd rather have him miss the early parts of the season, than the crucial final stretch, especially if the team is still contending for the playoffs going into December.
