Phelps To Start Week 1 Vs. Bengals

22 posts in this topic

Let's take a look at a Baltimore sports hero and consider the positives to him starting under center on September 7th against the Bengals. This is obviously for humor and nothing more, so I'd appreciate you not ripping me if I get some numbers wrong here and there.

1. Phelps is 6'4": He should have no issues seeing his receivers over the Offensive line, which is allegedly a problem for Troy Smith.

2. Works well under pressure. Although no one ever doubted him, Phelps did the impossible, win 8 gold medals in one olympics, c'mon now, if he can get us 8 wins we're steps ahead of where we were last season.

3. Making decisions in the clutch: that last half stroke for medal number 7? counting his strokes when his goggles malfunctioned? Think about the decisions he'll make when the pocket is collapsing around him.

4. Conditioning and dedication: This guy trains at least 30 hours per week. Not only is he probably in better shape than most of the ravens, the conditioning will keep him in the game, uninjured, for the entire season. He'd also have shown up for training camp it it weren't for the olympics...

5. The fans love him: he's already proven that he can get/keep fans in the stadium. No one stays for an entire pre-season game, not to mention stay after the game and move to another section to watch tv?

6. Phelps is a community man. He's likely going to start training young people at the Aquatic club once he buys it, I'm sure he can contribute even more to the community.

7. Jersey Selection: fans had #8 phelps jerseys at the pre-season game to represent his 8 gold medals. No one wears number 8, so this works and fans already own the jersey he'll wear.

8. A team player. Dedicated and modest, Phelps admittedly owes a lot of his accomplishment to his teammates.

I think we should have his people call our people and they can do lunch. Who care's if he can throw the ball, no one else on the squad has proven that they can do that, so what do we have to lose?

Can we fill the stadium with water?

Then we could use him at running back or as a scrambling (well, swimming) QB and he could set and break his own world records for fastest TDs swam. :P

Since Phelps is a long time Ravens Fan and from Baltimore, the Ravens should send a personal invitation to Phelps to attend opening game on the 7th and certainly have a red carpet rolled out on the field for him, Phelps should be the FIRST man out of the tunnel.

That would be awesome!

I'd go for it.

maybe he can do some ceremonial thing like the first pitch in O's games, like the ceremonial first pass to get some good luck in our passing game for the season! :P

Clearly he should be a pass rusher. With such a dominant "Swim Move," nobody will be able to stop him from getting to the quarterback.

heres an idea...water football

running in water until you are dunked by opposing players

when your head is under water you are down where your head goes down

and if you break free you may swim..but make it easier for yourself to be dunked

i wonder if phelps could be consistant and lean forward when hes dunked

we know hed be a great receiver...he could probably burn even champ bailey swimming :P
