Finally, NFLN Replaces Theismann, Millen, & Papa

32 posts in this topic
NFL Network has a new announcing team for its prime time regular-season games, with Brad Nessler handling the play-by-play and Mike Mayock as the color commentator.

Although NFL Network hasn’t formally announced the pairing, Richard Deitsch of SI.com reports that the decision has been made.

The promotion of Mayock was expected and, frankly, overdue: He’s been the best analyst on NFL Network for years, and his presence in the booth represents a major improvement over last year’s commentators, Joe Theismann and Matt Millen.
Thank God, they were horrible last year..both Theismann and Millen were falling over themselves in giving compliments to Matt Ryan and the Falcons when the Ravens played on NFL Network, it was hard to watch. This move is long overdue, Mike Mayock is a great guy, always liked him...

They knew they had to do something, Millen and Theismann SUCKED

Whoever thought Millen and Theismann were the right pair for the job in the first place should be fired. I can't remember one game that was even bearable to watch with them chattering away.

Another job Millen's done poorly? Whoops!

I like the change.

Millen's resume looks like this.

Fired! Fired! Fired!

Great move. Finally Thursday night football will be bearable to listen too.

Brad Nessler is an interesting choice, but I tentatively like the move. We'll see how he adjusts back to the pro game since the pacing is a little different. But alas, football is football. Also, if I recall, he's filled in for some NFL games in the past decade and was none too bad.

I love Mike Mayock and was ecstatic when he was announced as the new color commentator last month. Mayock's done well during Arena League broadcasts and his draft insight is amazing. He should do particularly well in games where teams have younger guys playing prominent roles.

I'm a huge AFL fan, so I've been listening on AFL games on NFL network. He is a really good commentator and can't wait for him to start this season.

Thank goodness. That crew last year was unbearable. Now they just need to bring Billick in once in a while for some color. His dry humor cracks me up.

Ugh, that Falcons game was so tough to listen too. Thank God for this move. Love Maylock.

I remember, in that Falcons game, Ryan threw an incomplete pass and Theismann complimented the throw. I'm used to commentators praising the opposing team's QB, but that was ridiculous. I'll be sure to watch Thursday Night Football with the volume up this year.

Apparently, these two guys - Theismann and Millen - can't get one word right in their broadcasts.

I suppose watching, and listening to, their work was like enduring root canal with no anesthesia and a dull drill bit.

I feel a little for Papa. Nessler and Mayock should make a great team though.

Same here. I thought he did a great job. Can't tolerate the other two though. It's strange, I used to like Millen's commentary before he went to the Lions. I guess I just can't take anything seriously from the person that put together the worst team in NFL history (Tampa was 0 - 14, Lions only team ever to go 0 - 16).

I loved listening to Sanders in the Ravens Cowboys game a couple years ago I don't why they don't put him in. He knows a ton about the game and is hilarious on camara

Hey, you guys need to back off Bob Papa. He's a great sports caster and I love him on NFL radio. I'm sure he wasn't thrilled to be with those other two clowns either.

Deion was SO clearly biased in that game. Anyone could tell just from listening to him that he really wanted the Cowboys to win. Which they didn't...... :ICONATOR_01040da29c18a4eed76047

No way. This upsets me. How else would I have known about 2010's best Safety duo of Kareem Moore and LaRon Landry than from the best talent evaluator on NFLN, Joe Theismann?

still got that game on dvr. Deion says, "are you kidding me?" Wade jaw drops and headset, while mclain runs a 70 yd td. Classic.

I guess hes alright, but he seems a little too anti-climactic at times.
