Trick Plays

10 posts in this topic

With all the new talent we have acquired in just T. Smith and Taylor, what kind of trick plays can we pull off? Personally, because of T smith's past at QB, i'd like in the steelers game to have Smith throw it deep to mason, just to make the classic Ward to Randle El look old XP

I want to see the team execute basic plays other teams routinely do like slants, bubble screens and picks/rubs before I see trick plays.

+1. The difference between a "boring" play and a "fundamental" play is execution.

After we blowout the 49ers on Turkey Day, I want to see Tyrod replicate the play against Stanford, so John can rub it in Jim's face.

Everyone does, but its nice to poke around at what we believe are new players can be capable of

I agree with wanting to see the team execute those fundamental plays first, but I would like to eventually see some trick plays. To be specific, I would only want to see this happen after our offense has been taking care of business with the regular plays and in games where they may not be as risky.

The better thing, in my opinion, would be the team blowing out the opposing team allowing Tyrod to come in and run the regular offense with the other backups. Then again those will probably be the games where it's less risky to run trick plays.

That depends what you mean by trick plays. Play action and draw plays require an element of trickery when executed correctly, in my opinion. When it comes to actual trick plays, like stuff in the Wildcat, Statue of Liberty plays, etc, I'd rather not see that at all. Those gimmicky plays don't work most of the time, and I'd much rather see us running basic routes and watching Joe and the new receivers gain a good level of comfort with one another before we try anything too fancy. I do like to see a good flea flicker now and again though...

Just for the sake of humoring the OP and the intent of the thread, I'd like to see a 5-WR set with one of them lined up in the backfield, setting up a double-option where the handoff could go to any WR on an endaround. There's a lot of speed in this receiving corps, even deceptive speed in the case of Mason and Boldin.

I'd also like to see a repeat of Smith-to-Flacco, this time with Tyrod Taylor taking the place of Troy Smith and Flacco managing to score after the catch.
