Troy Better Than Ed?

Do you need a link?  He never recovered from an achilles injury against the Bengals (on a  pick 6). How easy do you possibly think it is to come back from  something like that? And before you ask, who is better: Troy at 70-75%  or one of our back ups in the biggest game of the year?<br />[/quote]

thimg is wardie, we can't play the injury card when it comes to these two guys. The only reason we can say for certain that Troy is better at ground support is due to the fact that Reed is one beer fart away from retirement. And by retirement, I mean crippled.
Yet that still didn't stop Ed from taking down Adrian Peterson one on one with an arm tackle, saving us from giving up a huge TD, because there was no one within 10 yards of those two when Ed tracked him down.

i honestly can't see Troy ever being as good in coverage as Ed is, no matter how many opportunities he was given. And that's not exactly an insult...it's the same as saying Flacco will never be Peyton Manning or Lawrence Timmons will never be Ray Lewis. It takes nothing away from Flacco or Timmons, because they are being compared to legends. No one expects them to play on that high a level (if they are reasonable, intelligent people).

But the argument we are presenting is that Ed has already proven he can play SS at least as well as Troy does. Troy however, has not proven he can play FS the way Ed does. Obviously, that is in large part due to the fact Troy has never played FS, so he has never had the chance to prove it.
But to assume that he could play as well as the guy who most consider the best FS ever is a pretty big assumption.

And who knows, maybe Troy could. But until he does, and does it as well as Ed, the same way Ed has proven he can play SS as well as Troy does, this will always be a non-debate in most people's minds..,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Well, we may get to find out. Timmons has proven agile and athletic enough that Troy may start playing deep too. Probably at SS still, but we'll see.

I won't get more into it as I know you at least understand where I'm coming from.

I'll try to respond to some other posts soon. Getting busy around here.

In the mean time, if a mod wishes to lock this thread down, please go ahead. I think I've proven that I won't let this go.

Not surprising. Timmons brings an element to PIT defense that many don't appreciate. But I suppose the same could be said for anyone on PIT's defense not named Hairball or Lebeau.

RAVENS FANS - 1
WARDIE - 0

A MK-19 is awfully heavy to be carrying around like an AK. I think the only thing that Furball has on Reed is the impact on his defense. While Ed Reed is the bigger Gamebreaker and gives his offense the ball back, when he is out we are still a functional defense. When Fruball is out the steeler defense somehow becomes average. That being said Reed has bigger team impact because if he goes down the offense does not get the ball as much, and the defense has to curtail to his absence and now QB's can throw all over the field at will instead of having to worry about Ed lurking back there,

Times when I wish Gooden wasn't completely a dunce football IQ wise. He's every bit the athlete Timmons is, just not half as smart.

Agreed. I'm actually a fan of Timmons. And every time I think of Gooden, it's just a shame that the mental part of his game hasn't developed. Injuries have been an issue too.

man, I remember thinking that we got a steal when we drafted Gooden in the third. I thought he was gonna be a faster version of Bart Scott.
Woops.

You'd think he'd learn a thing or two playing alongside Ray,,,,
