Rashard Mendenhall Comments Osama's Death

71 posts in this topic

Has anyone else been following this, Rashard Mendenhall is getting a lot of heat for some comments he made on his twitter account over peoples reaction when they heard about Osama's death.

"What kind of person celebrates death? It's amazing how people can HATE a man they have never even heard speak. We've only heard one side..."

He made other comments but it looks like he's deleted some..He also said how he doesnt see how the towers came down just because a plane crashed....obviously he's uneducated about what happened and why the towers came down.

What do you guys think? I think we all have freedom of speech but in this case you should really know when to shut up and not say a damn thing.

I respect his right to free speech but this was just a really stupid thing to say. Just flat out dumb.

Apparently he's a *gasp* conspiracy theorist. Not really my type of person.
That what I said lol Perhaps he's watched "Loose Change" a few too many times.

Tell me you don't want to slap the crap out of those little weasels.
I picked up this book a few years ago and I highly recommend it for anyone confused about these silly conspiracy theories:

Debunking 9/11 Myths: Why Conspiracy Theories Can't Stand up to the Facts, by Popular Mechanics

Conspiracy Theorists HATE this book and their arguments against it reveals just how desperate they are to get people to believe them. They are a pathetic existence.

Yeah those people piss me off, its good to question certain things, you don't have to believe every word people say but in this case, if you learn about what happened you know how and why the towers fell, yes a plane wasnt enough to take them down they were actually built to withstand that..but the immense heat from the jet fuel is what did it.

** How you like my new signature haha

In addition to what Warden posted, a quick google search will give you this... I put it in the blogs, earlier today

An MIT engineering professor and a grad student using scientific fact and logic to debunk the "conspiracies". It's a bit thick with nerd talk, my mind shut down a few times, but it's very well laid out and explains everything.

One of my good friends is a conspiracy theorist. He's also a loyal Steelers fan. I knew there was a correlation! Just playing lol But in all honesty, I shook my head when seeing the second comment earlier. Everybody has a right to have their own opinion, but there are just some things you keep to yourself.

What he said is not the problem - the fact that he hasn't learned his lesson in PR from the last time is sad.

You don't make proclamations through twitter. Find your audience.

It's okay to acknowledge that someone else's opinion is completely ridiculous IMO. haha

lol True, it definitely is. A certain president may not like hearing that from a player on his favorite team. I'll make sure to send him a jersey of a different color ^_^

I dunno about that. My mom's family are Quakers, by no means hippies, and would feel the same way.

Let's not be disparaging hippies. Lots of them grew up to be responsible adults.

My parents being two of them, but many of them decided to become college professors. That's going to come back to bite us....in fact, I think it already is.

I'm not up to speed on the ins and outs of the Quaker way of life, but I did specifically mean hippies.

Someone should give Mendenhall a book entitled: "How not to be the world's biggest Dummy - For Dummys"

Seriously, I thought Ray broke his shoulder, not his head.

It's not just this and the slave trade though. He's also tweeted some other rediculous stuff. The guys just a tool.

Between humping Ben, fumbling in the Super Bowl and broadcasting his ignorance twice, it's been quite an eventful year for Mr.Mendenhall.

Ah, so Mendenhall was "only encouraging those reading it to think". Ironic, trying to get others to think when you apparently were not.

You can tell by his other tweets that he doesn't think before he acts.

A few of his team mates probably saw this and thought: "Aww, man. Not again Rashard!" before giving him a call and telling him to try and rationally explain such stupid comments.

I think he should change his name to Rashard MendenHUH... because when he tweets, you're always left scratching your head.
