Merged....Player Organized Workouts

20 posts in this topic

I was wondering if the Ravens senior players are considering working out together? I understand that Flacco, Mason, Boldin and a few other receivers met in Phoenix along with Heap and Dickson to practice and train.
I was wondering if a senior leader on the team should organize a work out with more members involved maybe at Towson University or College Park? I understand that Brees brought out his personal trainer and over 37 Saints veterans and players joined him to train together at Tulane and they are even considering positional drills. I just wish a Ray Lewis or Ed Reed could organize something similar???? I am just trying to be optimistic given the current CBA standoff and lock-out...
Any thoughts are welcome...

Here is a link to the Saints' getting together to train.

I was very happy when I heard Flacco was working out with the WRs and TEs. I also heard that Reed was going to do work with the DBs. Unfortuntely I have no source to prove it so I'm not even sure if it was true. I would like to hear more about our guys getting together to do team practice type things, or if just groups of them getting together in different places to work out.

The Saints thing is cool, but that more media driven then anything. It's nice to see guys come together and work out, but other then the QB and pass catchers working on the timing of plays, there isn't much to be gained from team work outs without coaches implementing new plays.

As long as the guys are working out, where ever they are, I'm fine with that. Torrey Smith has already said, he's been working out with Webb and that was even before the draft. Of course Ray has already gotten in touch with Jimmy. So I defintely think there is small groups of these guys working out together.

So having all the guys come together and workout would be a good story to hear in the media, but ultimately I don't think, it's needed.

Has anyone wondered why Joe flacco was the guy who said let's go work during this lockout and not 52 and 20? And why a bunch of back ups and mason came to owings mills during the brief "break" during the lockout to atleast get a Playbook if nothing else? All we and the media talk about is how Ray and Ed are the leaders of this team but neither has brought this team together to work. Look at the saints, those guys are putting in work vets and rookies. The jets and dolphins had starters coming in to workout, get play books, etc etc and we didn't. This shows me who is really hungry, who wants to win, who wants to be a step ahead in the game when football comes back and we are not one of those teams. I understand that flacco, heap, mase, harper and bolden where in Arizona working out but they are not the bmore ravens, just 4 of 22 starters and a practice squad player. Let's go ravens, come together as a team and work, we have rookies that need it. This is the time to show us, your fans, that u are a leader of this team when veteran leadership is needed not just during football season and when cameras are around. Go Ravens

52 and 20 have personal trainers. They have been using those personal trainers for years now and skipping on OTAs. Excuse me if Im wrong, but I remember seeing a video of Ed and Ray working out together and they use the same trainer.

This is a non story and the player organized events are not going to make a difference.

Ray and Reed already have leadership presence. Maybe they wanted Flacco to step up. Im not gonna fault 2 HoF'ers for not doing some jumping jacks with some guys when they leave it all on the field every game. So let Flacco and Mason have their "work outs", hopefully it will benefit the team but I think it's more morale boosting than actual training.

Ray and Ed dont need playbooks they play Defense. Its not like the schemes of the defense have changed any.

52 and 20 are famous for their tireless work ethic during the offseason. I'm sure every - or almost every - player is working on a fitness routine from the Ravens or another trainer. And, also, just because it isn't being reported doesn't mean it isn't happening... Ray invites players to his house all the time.

Its right here

Ray and Ed dont need to goto player organized workouts. Pretty sure Ed and Ray know every play in the defensive playbook, know everyone elses responsibilities in the playbook, and as defensive guys they dont have to work on timing patters, progressions, or a general chemistry with WRs.

Stop letting the media dictate you views and opinions of this team, but the truth is, you and the rest of us probably know more about the Ravens then the national media ever will.

What the Saints did was great for the camera, but when you dig deeper, what did they accomplish that the Ravens aren't. Half of those veteran guy that were at that Saints workout, wouldn't even have been there had it been a voluntary OTA, but now sense it's a lock out, they show up to a players OTA. That's cool, but it more of a show then anything.

What the Jets did was not different then what Flacco and his teams did. Work on their routes and timing. The only different is it got much more national attention.

I know that out of the draft picks, at least Torrey and Jimmy have been in contact with vets like Ray and Ed.

As i said before, those player workout you see all over sportscenter and NFL network, are only hot topics because of this lockout.

As for Flacco showing leadership. He's the QB of the team, this franchise, and this City, he's supposed to show leadership. Even with guys like Ray Lewis and Ed Reed, Flacco needs to and is starting to take control of this offense first, then the team.

What done for the media is done for the media, what's done for the overall good of the team is much more important. A bunch of guys doing jumping jacks and sprints in front of a few cameras isn't whats gonna be the difference between a Super Bowl and a Early Playoff exit.

Right now it's May 07, the Ravens wouldn't be having nothing more then either a passing camp, With is what Flacco and the guys are doing, or just a Rookie/1st year player camp.

Talk me to about the lack of leadership on this team, when the lockout gets to late July, August, and the season is getting closer and closer. That's when this team will need to come together and practice on their own. Until then......I can care less about some media driven workouts to show the NFL that the players are making an effort.

Without Chuck and any of the other coaches there to instruct the players on just how they expect it to be done, them having the playbook doesn't help much anyway.

As I mentioned in another thread, Flacco and the WRs/TEs are really the only ones that will gain anything from working out together right now. Timing, comfortable and chemistry can be gain. However there is a reason why you never hear about great defensive guys like Dwight Freeney, working out with Peyton Manning and the WRs in the offense. There's just not much to be gained defensively by practicing against air.

Im sure if a team workout has happened, we will surely know about it.

So, with that said, where the heck is our team when all these other teams are getting together collectively and working for the season?

Drew Brees paid for like 40 players to come to a team workout, and it was sugguested by 105.7 that the owner more than likely said to Brees during the "non-lockout" time period that he will reinburse Brees after the lockout for getting the team together and paying for the workouts. This makes sense, because thats alot of money for one man to dish out for all the players (40). I wonder if our owner did/could have done the same thing?

Even if Brees is pulling out of his own pocket...

Where is our team collectivly(30+ players) when they should be working out? Makes me think they don't want the lombardi as much as others...as much as me.

Thoughts? Its 4am so excuse me for any misinformation or lack of grammer, or excessivly rambling.

Several Ravens players will be joining Derrick Mason for off-season workouts, training and conditioning at Towson University on May 24th, 25th, and 26th.

The number of players expected to attend is 20-25.

Due to Towson graduation, there will be NO parking available so these workouts will be strictly CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC.

Just because the media doesn't hint or talk about us working out doesn't mean their not. Ravens were never media team, why should they start now? Not that it'd help much anyway though..

Well for anyone still wondering where the leadership on this Ravens team is, it looks like Flacco, Boldin, Mason, and Rice are answering those questions.

I think it's great that all of our offensive skill players selected in this year draft, Smith, Doss, Taylor and Allen, were presence at Towson for workouts.

Boldin, Flacco, and Mason all brought there playbooks for anyone that needed copies. Flacco's holding 1-2 hour long study sessions in a hotel room for Smith, Doss, and Taylor to learn the playbook and concept of the routes/formation.

Even though this is probably Mason's last year, and guys like Smith, Doss, Hardy and Reed will be looking to take his spot, he's still willing to stick around after workouts to teach the young-ins what they need to know.

I'm personally not a huge fan of the 40-50 player attending the player only workout because I don't think much comes from that. However for the offense it's different. If guys like Smith, Doss, and Hardy can start to get some chemistry with Flacco, that means they'll be able to hit the ground running once camp starts, and will be able to be apart of the offense early.

I'm loving the leadership that Flacco is showing and I can only hope it spills over into on field production.

I wasn't surprised in Housh not attending. However, I was surprised that Stallworth wasn't present. I just glanced at his recent tweets and he makes no mention about the Ravens at all. I think he knows he won't be back. Wish we could have seen what he was capable of. Oh well, I wish him the best.

Yea, I think it was something more then just Stallworth's play last season. I think before the season even ended, the Ravens and Stallworth knew that this relationship wasn't working out.

With the Ravens being so high on Torrey Smith, I think the chances of Stallworth coming back are slim to none.

On another note it is good to see Josh Wilson out there with the guys.
