Our 225Th Pick: Anthony Allen

46 posts in this topic

This tape shows me that he might be a good steal because of our current Backfield situation.

Reasons why he might make it on our roster:

1) Allen can take over the bruiser and goalline duty of Willis McGahee. In sense of economics, who would want to pay 6 million dollars when a guy who makes less than 6% of that can do it(expected rookie minimum contract: around $350000).

2) Allen can add 15- 20 more pounds this offseason and become a fullback. LeRon McClain is expected to bring in at least 3 million dollars for his service to any team (highest paid fullback: Vonta Leach 11 million over 3 years).

3) Except for McGahee and McClain, Allen is the next biggest back on the team with a frame of 6'1" and 222 lbs that can add more weight. I can see that Allen fits not only the best player available, but also as a need to fill in as a RB for the future.

This pick shows that we can lose McGahee and McClain without losing the physicality of the offense.

Even though there were other late-round RBs I liked more than Allen, he was a good pick. And while the offense he played in at GT doesn't translate to the NFL, you have to like Allen's size and how hard he runs.

Let's hope he has a better rookie season than Jonathan Dwyer did with the Steelers last season.

I agree, there were a few guys I liked more, but it won't matter if our oline get's back on point this season.

Edit: I like the highlight video, his speed and balance in particular stand out.

I think he would be too valuable as a compliment to Rice to use him as a fullback. But we never know. I this he's a McGahee clone at a much cheaper price as u said. This makes the second pick that I personally didn't like and it had nothing to do with the Ravens.

Both Anthony Allen and Tyrod Smith killed my Seminole at different times in the ACC. However I can say i'm glad both of those guys are Ravens.

There's running back talent all over the board, so I have high hopes for Allen. The perfect complement to Rice is a big bruiser of a back, and that's what Allen should be able to provide. He has to be a better option than Parmele. Even if he doesn't pan out though, he was only a seventh rounder.

We still need a road grading FB for these guys.

Do you think Jason McKie, could be that guy?

Not sure, I think he made the pro-bowl once but he's bounced around teams recently, we signed him as insurance last season for McClain's injury and upcoming ufa situation.

I really like the pick. What stands out to me is the guys quick burst through the line, balance and pure power, which is a perfect combination for short yardage situations and beat up defenses. He is just alittle raw coming out of a offense like GT.

Yea but he doesn't have to be a star, just love to get in there and bang. Maybe this will be the last time he bounces around.

I also expect a lot more single back running from the Ravens this year. Not saying we'll get away from the physical run style but, we'll spread things out a lot more

It was a good pick considering the uncertainty of our RB depth. Le'ron could be a UFA (we did resign McKie before the lockout though). Willis is under contract but as we all know will likely be released due to his salary. I like Jalen but he has never had an opportunity to play really at all. With Allen and Curtis Steele, we have guys who could emerge as that big physical # 2 back to compliment Ray.

Steele isn't a bruiser-type back.

Anyway, I really love his build and has pretty good speed for his size. I wonder how they will distribute the carries between him, Rice, and McClain (if he gets resigned). Hopefully it's enough to keep McClain happy.

Also, the few times we've seen Jalen in the backfield, I've been impressed. Physical but also elusive enough as well. He sort of reminds me of Ahmad Bradshaw.

As a guy that has seen Anthony Allen alot.... You guys receive great value with this guy.. A guy with power and deceptive speed... He needs to be coached up (vision) because the offense he played in college... But i think he can be a really good #2 RB

Kinda remind me of Steven Jackson..lol
Was gonna say the same, but I think that has more to do with his frame and long, flowing dreads.

This tape shows me that they don't play defense in the ACC :229031_rofl:

Just kidding. I hope he pans out.

I'm not going to discredit Anthony but seeing who went Undrafted I would have preferred a Center or Saftey at that spot, not another RB.

He'll make the team, he's the bigger running back we need as a change up from Ray Rice..especially since McClain might be leaving. If McClain stays around then he could run the ball more but he's also a good FB...I'm sure Allen can beat out our other options at RB..i dont really care for any of them..cant even remember their names

This guy kind of reminds me of Marshawn lynch the way he runs over defenders and his size.

I saw the balance in a couple different videos, and like ER20 said he runs hard and doesnt hesitate around contact which will be big for him in this division. Allen definitely has some tools. I figured we'd take another back late and Allens size/speed/running style seems to fit how we run the ball. I think he's a better pick than Peerman was a couple years ago, and I think he's got more explosiveness than Parmele.

As for the FB you wanted, the Browns took Maericic in the 5th and Vickers is a FA that hasnt been given an offer sheet. You want your oldschool fullback, he's Sam Gash 2.0. Id sign Vickers in about .2 seconds.

I was going to post about vickers because i read the article where he doesnt think hes going to be back with the browns even though he wants to, and i would love our FO to go after him. He would be a great fb..and we could have mcclain, rice and allen as our backs. It would be like the 08 season when we had my boy lorenzo o'neal blocking for mcclain/rice/magahee

The reason I dont think we'll get Vickers is because he's basically another proven veteran FB like McClain..if we were going to get Vickers we might as well just keep McClain. I think the Ravens want to go the cheaper route and use McGie or whatever his name was...or find a rookie or some other free agent.

I thought we'd draft a RB in the later rounds as well, Allen is the type of back I would expect them to pick, someone the opposite of Rice, he's bigger, runs more downhill..nice change of pace

i liked this pick with the uncertainty of willis and McClain coming back. He is a safe pick in round 7. I can see him being a good goal line runner, with his big bod and 41.5 inch vert, he can run over guys or jump over the line in a hb dive to get us a td. He also has pretty good hands to catch the ball.

nice first post. i dont see us letting both mcclain an mcghee go. i would rather have mcclain if we had to choose but im very attached to willis an dont want to see him play anywhere else.

thanks! And i Agree i would rather have McClain back instead of Willis. I know Anthony is a big body but who knows if he can truly be a true blocking back like McClain. McClain i believe has more value to the team
