I dont know where some guys here got off saying Smith wasnt a willing tackler. Those couple of videos posted shows him seeking out the ball carrier, and he actually prevents a TD in a goal line stand.
Yeah, I didn't see that. He'll get washed in some running plays - he's inconsistent getting off of blocks - but he's not a linebacker or lineman, so that's okay by me.

Ya thats what I mean, theres only a handful of guys like Woodson or McAlister who would chuck blocks by WRs to get into the action. The fact that Smith actually breaks down and wraps up when hes 1 on 1 with a HB is huge for me in this day in age. Especially when we have guys like Webb and Washington flayling around.

If we move to Webb to nickel we are going to have 2 great tackling corners out there for the oh so important 3rd down assuming Smith starts.

We didn't address Pass Rusher at all. I would of liked us to go after Steven Friday instead of Allen personally. No center was addressed yet we got Doss and Brown, 2 people who are headed straight to the PS.
I really think people are underrating McPhee. He was a dominant junior college pass rusher and while he took a step back in that department last year, the tools are still there for him to develop into a solid pass rusher in the NFL.

I highly doubt the Ravens place either Doss or Brown on the practice squad.

Doss wont be although he'll be behind Smith and Reed as the #5 WR so he'll have to contribute on STs. Brown is a better cover corner than Cary Williams is so I dont know why Brown would be on the PS.

McPhee will be a situational pass rusher for us I believe at the 5 tech. I am just shocked we didn't take an OLB with JJ getting older and Sergio being a giant question mark.

What do you mean about Doss and Brown? You think they make the 53 man roster or we just straight up cut them? We have 9 current WR's (not including Housh and Stalls) and I see 4 of them being active on the roster. I guess Brown could be our 5th corner which would send Carr packing.

1. Boldin
2. Mason
3. T. Smith
4. J. Hardy

That's kind of how I see it going down and the 5 th spot going to who can contribute on PR/KRs

I do actually because I believe Ozzie was sincere in saying he was thinking about taking him in the 2nd but the Bills took him and we got Rice (which was sweet).

Can't wait for the WR competition.

Nor can I, I expect big strides from Reed this TC, and I want to see what Smith can do in the preseason, see if he'll "help us beat the Steelers" as Ozzie stated. One thing with Doss is he's a 4th round guy, and another team will snatch him up if we waive him so I cant see him not making the roster.

Has Hardy even signed an actual contract to be a Raven? As far as I know, he's only signed to a future/reserve contract.

There's no reason to not roll with six receivers, we did it last year with Mason, Boldin, Stallworth, Housh, Reed, and Marcus Smith. Was Smith used as a receiver? No, but neither was Reed. The way I see it, things would end up:
1. Boldin
2. Mason
3. Smith
4. Reed
5. Doss

I wouldn't be surprised if Hardy doesn't even end up on the roster itself. If Hardy signs, Reed, Doss, and Hardy can all become interchangeable on playtime.

It's certainly possible but I'm hoping Wes Bunting's belief that McPhee can be effective standing up is true and the Ravens have him play LB.

I'm surprised the team didn't draft a "true" rush LB either. I guess there weren't any rush LBs they had rated higher than Tyord Taylor or Anthony Allen.

I mean both will make the final 53. Even Smith is re-signed, Doss could do more in pre-season and be the 5th WR. I won't consider Harper, Hardy and Jones real factors till I see them in pre-season. One has been active for two games his whole career and the other two were out of football last season.

With Smith and Brown being drafted, I don't think the team will re-sign Carr or even Wilson.

I just hope we don't cut Mason. That would really upset me because he has put this team on his back so much and it would be a slap in the face to him. I know he was a Titan before but he's my favorite Ravens receiver of all time.

I like Hardy as a Redzone threat.

I dont think we're in a position to cut Mason, as nice as it would be to force Flacco to make reads all over the field instead of locking on Mason for specific plays we just dont have anyone who is a #2 yet. Smith is a rookie, Reed hasnt caught a pass in a game yet, Doss is a rookie, Hardy was a plug in Buffalo. Mason will play out his contract and ride off into the sunset with all Ravens fans thanks and hopefully hes on the other end of an exciting Super Bowl.

Regardless of how alot of people here feel about Torrey Smith, Cam has to get him on the field and plunge him into games with snaps. Even if hes not the #1 read on alot of plays, he needs playing time so Cameron better get the 3WR sets ready.

I'm with you two, here. Mason was the only consistent piece of our offense from '05-onwards. He was a great addition to the team and plays like a Raven. Even last year, he proved he could still be a productive receiver and make big plays - and that was fighting through an injury, too.

Not that he couldn't be that but if Yanda is re-signed, interior running should be easier in the red-zone. And if some more imaginative passing plays are implemented, I don't think the team would really need a WR like Hardy.

The most depressing part of that is the lack of Wilson... even if that is more realistic. I think I'll revert back to my blissful ignorance to reality until I hear news of Wilson's departure.

What's not to love?

Anyways, hopefully we will be able to go after UDFA sooner than later because there is some great talent out there like the guys I mentioned in the free agent thread.

That's one of two catches by Mason that I'll never forget. The other being his one-armed touchdown catch.

Ozzie didn't draft Doss in the fourth round to cut him before the start of the season. Doss was a second receiver who fell to the fourth and I like him more than Torrey Smith, and more importantly Flacco likes him. I have no doubt he'll make the 53-man roster. If we like Hardy a lot, it might be necessary to carry six receivers on the roster this year. Mason is gone after next year and we have a lot of young guys that we need to see some development from in Doss, Smith, Reed, and possibly Hardy.

Ozzie didn't draft anyone with the intention of cutting them. He actually thinks Doss can help this team, but if Doss doesn't do well in his limited opportunities and someone else does, then it'll be hard to justify Doss making the roster just because he's a 4th round pick or a Flacco favorite.

You exaggerated by saying "everyone" when mentioning his critics. And I have yet to see anyone question the guy's running skills, or athleticism.

A QB extending plays and making plays in college doesn't mean he can do it to the same degree in the NFL.

NFL coaching should help him but some skills are innate and others can only develop with experience.

No one was talking about Joe but I'm glad you brought him up. Despite starting over 50 games, like you said, there are still parts of his game that are inconsistent and haven't developed as quickly as one would hope.
ok, let's get this clear Ed. you are the one that keeps mentioning Tyrod's "running" skills as though he is just limited to that. not me! bottomline? he is a "Dual-Threat" QB! and that is something that many of you cats in here don't seem to like. but i love it! the NFL needs to stop trying to make every QB the same. this is a copy-cat league and it is just a matter of time for when a dual-threat QB will be viewed as a very nice commodity to have and not a liability. that's all i have been saying in a nutshell!

You're misinterpreting what I write. I've never insinuated all Tyord can do is run.

I don't like dual-threat QBs? Wow...

What you've been saying in a nutshell makes no sense. Dual-threat QBs are already viewed as commodities to an extent. I'm sure what NFL teams, coaches and fans want to see from their QB first and foremost though is the ability to pass the football well. And as much as this may irk you to read, many dual-threat QBs aren't polished passers. We could be here all day running down the list of QBs that lit up the scoreboard in high school and college with their arm and legs but couldn't cut the mustard in the pros.

I don't believe dual-threat QBs are viewed as liabilities but teams usually don't invest heavily in a QB that's going to expose himself to more hits and has issues in the pocket, especially when so many others have failed.

I'd like to see Tyord succeed but just because I'm skeptical it'll happen doesn't mean I'm a "hater" or dislike dual-threat QBs in general.

Wait, so because I complimented his running ability a few times, I implied all he can do is run? Wow...

The guy's arm strength speaks for itself and unlike some other QBs, there doesn't seem to be an issue with his throwing motion. From the VT games I watched though, his accuracy was inconsistent and he bailed from the pocket too quickly at times as well. That's just my opinion.

Mason could still be the #1 or #2 WR on the team, he just needs time to rest because he slows down at the end of the season.

All of his catches leave me scratching my head. Joe can throw the ball 5 feet out of bounds and Mason's still dragging his toes for the 1st down.

Housh too with his shifty runs after the catch... too bad we can't keep everyone.
