Nope, he came here to be a backup, Ozzie said in conference call they want to add a veteran backup too..at best Tyrod will be practice squad or 3rd stringer. He isnt ever going to be the starter, he wont beat out Joe Flacco.

If anyone thinks this they are dreaming...just more disrespect for our QB.
Harbaugh said in an interview he thinks Tyrod is a really special player, and could suprise a lot of people... Tyrod is going to be the second string QB if he does well and grasps the offense (which is mostly a run-based/west coast offense which is what we run at VT....without a doubt in my mind he's already better than Cantwell.....do you think people had your mindset when Tom Brady was going to start over Drew Bledsoe? And Tyrod could have the "Vick Effect" meaning the offense players would respond and rally more around him than Flacco (as Vick does moreso than Kolb)..... just some thoughts, no offense

I'm new to this forum, and the reason is because i'm now a Raven fan and following the greatest quarterback to ever come out of Virginia Tech (yes, I believe he has the potential to be even better than Vick).

You guys have no idea how much of a steal that Tyrod was in this draft for the Ravens. I'm a huge VT fan and hold season tickets, so i've seen him pretty much in every situation throughout his 4 years.

The biggest misconception surrounding him is that he is a typical "scrambling" quarterback.
Yes, he possesses the ability to scramble out of pressure. (When we played Nebraska in '10, [a team that had BOTH Suh and Amukamara] he was able to lead a game winning drive, throwing two perfect passes when Suh was wrapped around his body)

But, he has an amazing arm. He spent the majority of his first two years scrambling because, as you all should know, a quarterback is only as good as his trust in his receivers. He had no WR that could catch those years, so he found himself wanting to scramble and get yards to help push the offense forward, rather than gambling on throws. He finally built some trust up, and this resulted in some insane numbers. He ended up in the top 3 in passing effiency and TD-INT ratio his senior year (higher than any current QB in the draft this year).

Of course, people see what ESPN shows of him and that will draw comparisons to Dennis Dixon or Troy Smith.
If Seneca Wallace and Aaron Rodgers had a baby, that's what Tyrod has the potential to be, if the Ravens coaching staff can further mold him into a QB and give him time to develop.

Steal of the draft, IMO.

Thanks for the post and welcome.

I really like the pick of Tyrod. Leading up to the draft i wanted the Ravens to select either Tyrod Taylor or Josh Portis, as QBs to develop behind Joe. As a FSU fan I've seen a lot of Tyrod over the years and i can say i'm very happy he's no longer at VT.

I thought from a outside fan, that Tyrod had his best season throwing the ball and making great decisions last year. Nothing really seem too big for this guy, nothing seems to shock him or overwhelm him.

For example, the TD pass in the Bowl Game. He just made one of the best plays of the season, and he was just so cool about it. As if it was supposed to happen. The guy is cool.

What are the chances Cantwell gets let go this offseason anyway? I'd say quite high. I'd expect TT to be on the practice squad his 1st year with Flacco and the vet on the roster. It's not like being practice squad QB on the Ravens is a bad deal. You get to still play with good players and importantly against good players. Not good players, great players.

I'm all for interesting/high risk-reward picks towards the end of the draft. Could be worse, we could be the Raiders and use it to draft 3 KR guys/terrible WRs.

Cantwell could end up back on the Practice Squad again. I don't see him making the main roster in any way though.

I really hope they dont do any wildcat or anything where Joe comes out and they send in Tyrod...you usually do that if your regular offense is no good, I don't think we'll need that because Joe will be busy leading the offense and scoring points.

Tyrod is a project, he definitely wont be the #2 this year.

I don't think so. Ozzie said last night that as soon as Free Agency starts we're picking up a veteran QB to back up Flacco.

I dont seee TT being put on the PS cuz i could see a team picking him up if we do. I agree he will probally be our 3rd option if we can find a good backup.

This guy shows shades of a current Michael Vick, I would not compare him to Troy Smith at all. Tyrod has the ability to stand in the pocket make reads and make accurate throws. He uses his speed to buy time out of the pocket to make give his receivers more time to make plays ( similar to Ben ), but he has the ability to hit the open field, make people miss and get those huge chunks of yards. I like the kid alot from what I have found out about him and his abilities. Extremely athletic so he is an intriguing prospect, a player you could use in the return game or even line up at receiver and get a trick play in who knows. At least he is a cheap option as a backup who could possibly start a game or 2. I honestly dont see Flacco going down anytime soon.
only thing im going to say is if he tears it up on pre season, ill be hoping flacco breaks finger and miss a few games and give this kid a shot, he looks just as if not better than Vick.

Perks comments like that are why players get hated on. Flacco is our QB atleast until he proves he cant handle the position which I really cant see happening now that hes in the driver seat an Cams right shotgun.

Please understand we want TT to become a great QB for us but we want the same for any ravens player.

I hope he quickly proves that he can be a capable back-up, rostering 3 QBs is less than appealing.

I only consider the 07 memebers to be the old timers lol.

I agree Gabe I hope he develops fast cuz we really only need 2 qbs carrying 3 means less roster space. Like I said tho Flaccos alot tougher then what people give him credit for. He got sacked more last year then he ever was an still remained strong.

The toughest QB still needs a quality backup.

With Tyrod, I hope he tears it up in the preseason for the next 2-3 years. Flat our dominates and once given chances in mop up duties, I hope he continues to perform well.

If he can prove to be one of the best backup QBs over the next 3 seasons or so, the Ravens will be in a win win position.

Either you have an really good back up, or you can trade him to a QB desperate team, and get much more then you gave up for him, which was a 6th round pick and a couple hundred thousand.

I wonder if he could return punts. We could always experiment with him in blowout games, no?

Not if he is our only back-up. In fact I can't see that happening at all given the injury risk.

Of course not if he's the only backup we've got. But if he's third-string, then I'd like to see us use him in some creative ways. Not taking away from Flacco at all, mind you, but TT has considerable talent.

The one thing I would be in favor of is to maybe borrow a trick from the Patriots. We can develop Tyrod for a few seasons, let him come in and show some flashes in cleanup duty, and then trade him to a team in desperate need of a qb for a mid-round draft pick.
