Tyrod Taylor

140 posts in this topic

Tyrod is my local homeboy here in the Hampton Roads area (757) of Virginia. i've been watching him ever since his High School days, and then of course, with my favorite college team....Virginia Tech Hokies. he is an absolute beast!

in support of Flacco...but....being a QB that possesses different skills than Flacco; he brings great athleticism, speed, agility, elusiveness, quickness and great arm strength for deep throws to the Ravens. he has been constantly improving on his accuracy and he is just as dangerous in the pocket as well as breaking off a 15-20 yard run to move the chains or to score TDs. he definitely gives defense fits as a dual-threat. see it for yourselves:

welcome to Baltimore Tyrod! glad you are a Raven!

yea that TD in the bowl game was sick. Wasn't a big Tyrod Taylor fan while he was at VT, because i'm a die hard FSU fan and that guy was always danerous for us. haha

I see Tyrod will be used much like Troy smith was used as a backup and allow him to use his athletic abilities. I was watching that year of the QB piece on ESPN and Tyrod has his heart set on being a QB. Says he's been a QB all his life, I like the fact he's willing to work hard to prove people wrong about him as a QB.

Before the draft started i either wanted to come away with Tyrod Taylor or Josh Portis, so i think this was a really good selection.

I've always loved Taylor, I think he would've been better if the Eagles drafte him but with his arm and speed he has the potential to be the best QB in this draft imo

I'm not trying to talk him down, but I think he could do for us what troy Smith did years ago, except, i heard he's more athletic, so he can probably do more. It might open up our trick plays.

Ugh, after Flacco's first bad game I will have to listen to 105.7's unintelligent fans as they say that Tyrod should start and that Ed Reed should line up at WR.....the latter of the 2 doesn't sound SO bad though lol

The best thing we can hope for is that he plays well enough for us to be a good backup, and plays well as a starter if Flacco ever misses action. That's it.

If he outplays Flacco, then he obviously deserves to start, but otherwise, no reason to imply that Flacco's job is in jeopardy. Flacco will do what he does, and if he doesn't show anything to make the coaches believe that he's the long-term answer, then there should be an open competition next year. At the very least, Taylor stringing together good performances means that he's building up his trade value later, which will help the team whether or not they intend on trading him.

Easy? Easy.

Hell most likely be our 3 string QB after free agency. Ozzie said they drafted him as a QB but I believe he would be good as a Brad Smith type of player.

Even if he out played Flacco (which he won't) we would still play Flacco because he is the new poster boy after Ray Lewis and Ed Reed.

Op said he brings a big arm for deep throws to the ravens? There isnt maby bigger arms than flacco, so the ravens already got that. Tyrod taylor isnt great and will never be a starter in this league, i just hope he can become a serviceable backup which i still doubt. at best, a brad smith type guy.

Yes let's replace our three year quarterback who took us to the playoffs all three years with someone that has no experience in the NFL. I sure don't see a risk in that

The only Qb I didn't want us to draft....and its because he is good. I wish he could of gotten a chance to start somewhere else

Lol. Why did Harbaugh sound so irritated when someone made the Troy Smith comparison?
Because Troy Smith is an irritant

Could he be a Matt Cassell for us? Where he shines and looks good to be starting, so some team will trade for him>

I'm personally hoping for more of a Brad Smith type player.

This guy shows shades of a current Michael Vick, I would not compare him to Troy Smith at all. Tyrod has the ability to stand in the pocket make reads and make accurate throws. He uses his speed to buy time out of the pocket to make give his receivers more time to make plays ( similar to Ben ), but he has the ability to hit the open field, make people miss and get those huge chunks of yards. I like the kid alot from what I have found out about him and his abilities. Extremely athletic so he is an intriguing prospect, a player you could use in the return game or even line up at receiver and get a trick play in who knows. At least he is a cheap option as a backup who could possibly start a game or 2. I honestly dont see Flacco going down anytime soon.

Everyone has probably seen this but i found it interesting, he seemed to be soaking in what Vick had to offer.

My goodness i guess every QB that comes out of college and can scramble is a career backup. Yall kill me, the man has not takin a Nfl snap yet, and already a career backup and now i see why Mcnabb is rated so low in the all time QB debates.(smdh)

Has anyone called Taylor a "career backup" in this thread?

A Dennis Dixon type of player. (Purple Punishment)

Are you kidding me? Lifetime backup right. Not good enough to start at the next level. Tidewater stand up!!!! Show these guys in Baltimore what real athletes can do. Bruce Smith, Michael Vick, Lawrence Taylor just to name a few. We don't play third string our whole lives we play against the best in each other, whoever makes it out of Virginia on top is a beast at the next level.

So.......no one has called him a "career backup". Thanks for clarifying!

I go to Virgina Tech and Tyrod is a great leader, and a great person. However, his pocket passing is average at best. He has a hard time moving the ball vertically down field (look at stanford, jmu, and Boise games). With that being said, hes a winner, and I think he'd be great for us if flacco went down for a game or two. Hes got enough arm and athletic ability to make some plays, but not consistently throw down the field.

The troy smith comparisons are decent, but tyrod is much more agile and quicker.. He's definitely more useful in a suggs package type thing because of it.

I love the pick, but lets hope flacco stays healthy,

I can totally understand this. Maybe we develop him and trade him cause I doubt they'll ever replace Flacco for him. I wonder if they'll make a few packages for him?

If he doesn't work out at QB, I'd like us to involve him SOMEHOW. I don't care how, as long as he gets the ball in his hands... punt returner, anyone? A WR in a blowout game? This kid could play a lot of positions for us, and I'd love to see how we use him during the season.
