Lockout Back On After 8Th Circuit Grants Stay

97 posts in this topic

I have absolutely no idea what the owners have to gain by enforcing the lockout right now. It must just be a personal point, that it is a show of losing ground to the players. Surely teams actually have more to gain by being able to sign FAs and trade players etc?

I don't understand why Owners don't want Free Agency and trades to happen. I'm just surprised that they didn't even apply the 2010 Free Agency Rule for the 2011 Off-Season while they worked on a CBA.

I did read this though....

If the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals in St. Louis grants the NFL a full stay this week, the players' appeal isn't expected to be heard until summertime.

But if the Stay isn't Granted, If the stay request is denied, however, the new league year will begin and offseason activities -- including free agency and trades -- will kick into gear.

Well... I'm not holding my breath on the year starting anytime soon though if this temporary stay is any indication.

Ok so the 8th Circuit is going to make every NFL Fan mad by waiting until Monday to make their ruling!!!! :34853_brickwall: :34853_brickwall: :34853_brickwall:

According to Adam Schefter, they will make their ruling on Monday at the earliest!

Well this should go over well with the fans. As we wait for the 8th Circuit to make their ruling tomorrow there are RUMORS flying around that a complete SHUTDOWN, not a lockout, a SHUTDOWN of the NFL could happen.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/05/08/rumors-fly-of-a-complete-nfl-shutdown/
We’re hearing initial rumblings pointing to the possibility that a loss by the league at the appellate level will prompt the owners to completely shut down all business operations until the players agree to a new labor deal.
I say at this point, let's start praying for a Orioles Playoff Run because it seems we aren't going to have any Ravens to cheer for at this rate.

Who wants to start a College Fantasy Football League?

There are rumors saying that if the stay request was denied, that the owners might shutdown business completely.
We’re hearing initial rumblings pointing to the possibility that a loss by the league at the appellate level will prompt the owners to completely shut down all business operations until the players agree to a new labor deal. The thinking is that, if the owners cease all operations, the NFL would not be violating the court order because there would be no lockout. Instead, the league essentially would be going out of business — something for which the NFL repeatedly chided the union in the weeks and months preceding decertification of the NFLPA.
Like I said, who is interested in Fantasy Football the College Edition because this isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

Ok now that today is Monday.... 8th Circuit make your ruling now!!!! I hope every judge(with the exception of Judge Nelson) loses their job for their mis handling of this case, if they are showing they can't handle a case this big that includes the NFL than it's obvious they can't handle a simple court case.

Me... Want... Ruling... NOW!

Me... Want... Free Agency... NOW!

Well if the NFL shuts down then that means the Fans have to stand up for the players. We need to go on strike so they understand that we wont take this. We need to remind the owners they make a living off of us an the players.

I don't know if I should take this as a good sign or not, but according to several sources the NFL is putting together alternative Free Agency rules to the 2010 Free Agency rules.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/05/09/report-nfl-crafting-alternative-to-2011-rules/
Daniel Kaplan of the SportsBusiness Journal reports that a working group of NFL types have been at work crafting possible 2011 free agency rules that will not necessarily replicate the 2010 rules in place
Schefter Tweeted this: NFL working group crafting 2011 free agency rules that won’t replicate 2010’s. ... Some players could be happy.

Does this mean the league is preparing to open League Business under new rules while they continue to get a new CBA done? I mean that is what it sounds like, I hope it is because Free Agency needs to happen soon.

This lockout is totally ridiculous... let teams get back to business, and let fans have some hope.

This stay needs to be lifted!

I agree. I been ready for Free Agency to happen and at this point I am just getting frustrated by the fact that Free Agency hasn't happened yet.

I don't understand why they're taking so long to rule on this stay... they've already scheduled the appellate arguments, just make a decision!

Me either, it seems they are turning a "temporary" stay into a permanent stay just by not officially saying it, just by not ruling on the case.

Now again.... Adam Schefter says a ruling will be made before Monday, which probably means no ruling since we have heard them say a ruling will be made on a certain day and here we are with no ruling still.

It's scrolling across the bottom of the screen on NFLN that the court extended the stay until a ruling is made...late June at the earliest.

Good News though is that apparently there was some kind of "breakthrough" in the talks that happened and are still going on as Mediation is suppose to stop at 9PM. Apparently the Mediator has asked the Owners to come up with a new proposal and it has been submitted to the Players who are "considering" the offer.

The League is now calling for things to get done.
“It is now time to devote all of our energy to reaching a comprehensive agreement that will improve the game for the benefit of current and retired players, teams, and, most importantly, the fans,” the NFL said in a statement forwarded to PFT. “This litigation has taken the parties away from the negotiating table where these issues should be resolved.
Oh Please let this be the week the Lockout ends for good and that Free Agency will begin at some point later this week.

Well this sucks, apparently Mediation is only for 2 days this time, now Mediation breaks until after the June 3rd Hearing.

There's won't be much pre-season hype or sleeper talk and predicting the impact rookies will make will be difficult.

Adam Schefter is predicting that Free Agency won't start until after the July 4th Holiday. Also NFL Business analyst thinks that a new CBA can be done mid July through Mediation.

The Countdown is on...... Friday is the day. June 3rd is when things in Court may finally get done. Let's hope Friday gives us something to be happy about and we can get back to reading NFL News that matters.

Is it bad that at this point I MISS reading about whether Brett Favre will play or not play? Is it bad that I miss when ESPN would send out Rachel Nichols or any other reporter to Mississippi to give us the daily Favre watch and when he is on his tractor?
