Jermon Bushrod - Ravens Need To Go After Him Durring Fa

22 posts in this topic

I think Jermon Bushrod would be a great value fit for the ravens at LT. He is a local kid from VA who went to Towson. Won the SB with the saints as the starting LT. I wonder if the ravens are even talking to him? I would assume he would like to come back to his hometown area. This would allow us to focus the rest of our pics on DE/OLB, WR, SS, FB. Its not like he could even be worse then Oher.

I'm all for this. He'll be expensive but would be well worth it. But I'm biased, he's a fellow alum. We need to see how the rest of the draft goes still.

I think it depends on the draft, if a T isn't BPA i'm sure we'll consider him. We typically wait after the draft and use FA to assess needs depending on how the draft turned out. We weren't able to talk to players during the lockout so i don't think the Ravens were looking too hard at FA yet. Im sure that our priority was more on the 1/3 of our own roster that could be free agents before we could even start looking at FAs from other teams. I think bushrod will be a priority for the saints in FA and we also have to look at where Jared Gaither is at, maybe he has got back into shape or at the very least changed his attitude...crossing my fingers on that one, his coach in college warned us he was headcase but if he could turn things around and look at some sort of incentive based reasonable deal it would be best case for us.

Met him when he came back to Towson after winning the superbowl to say hi to fans and sign autographs. Had a HUGE watch on too. Nice guy. Towson REPRESENT!

Um usually OZ tries to address as many needs as possible leading INTO the draft. Thats why our BPA philosophy always works out

I'd be pleased with this move if Gaither leaves, which I hope he doesn't. The guy is a beast when healthy and motivated (which is too often not the case, I know). Giving up 3 sacks a year playing LT in the AFC North is impressive.

Based on the Reid pick, it looks like we're happy with Oher at LT and inserting Reid at RT or bringing back Gaither... highly doubt we pick up Bushrod.

I'd rather go for a pass-rusher in FA, because with our current D, Big Ben would still own us.

Yep. Hopefully they target one because they just missed out in the second round on one. Can't believe they passed on Houston.

For the shutdown corner comment, Ben has Wallace, Ward, Randel El, Brown, and Sanders. Smith covering all of em?

Will there be any quality pass rushers available in free agency?
[/quote]
I think there's a couple of situational guys but nothing major. Another reason why not targeting one in the first few rounds is a fail especially with having the opportunity to take Jimmy Smith AND Justin Houston in the first two rounds.

Maybe guys like Houston, Moch, Carter and Acho simply aren't high on the big board. Houston's hustle has been questioned, Moch is small, Carter was a DE at Fresno(some struggle to make the transition) and Acho tape isn't great.

The only other way I can rationalize the team not drafting a rush LB in the first two days is that Kindle is good to go next season but the information is being withheld to keep the team's options seemingly open.

I guess so. Like I said, drafting Torrey Smith was destiny so I don't even know why I expected the team to select someone else when he's widely considered as one of the best deep threats in the draft.

That's the only reason I could think of. They must be extremely optimistic about Kindle. We'll see what else they do. Hopefully they address the D more(SS, ILB, or DE) for the rest of the draft to fill in the holes around OLB. There's still some good talent that could fill those needs.

Oher is not going to be removed from the LT spot, at least not next season. The O-line might need someone to start at RT right away, but I'd assume that we're done with the OT position now that we've added Jah Reid. Ozzie has a decent track record on the OL, so hopefully he'll be able to start for us.

On the whole, this is a very weak free agent class to address any of our areas of concern. There aren't any pass rushers for a 3-4, none of the lineman we have a shot of adding are that exceptional, and it's a weak free agent class on the whole really. I still say signing Matt Light to a short term deal would be a good move in case Reid can't go right away. Other than that, there aren't a lot of options.

Yea, the thing is we as fans, don't really know exactly what goes into the draft process.

We can look at those pass rushers and say, wow this guy had this many, so this guy's highlight reel looks impressive, but the Ravens have every single snap of ever game, and even some practices, so they know much more about these guys.

I think I've said this about 100 times in comparing to the Ravens taking Jimmy Smith. Since 2008 and even before then for some, people have been screaming for us to draft a stud at QB to replace C-Mac. Every draft names are thrown out, and to our credit some have been good names that have become good NFL players. However with the exception of Webb the Ravens never drafted a CB, and definitely didn't take one early.

Well now you fast foward to this 2011 draft. In the weeks and days leading up to the draft, there was a large amount of people that didn't wanna see Jimmy Smith selected at 26 because they felt the pass rush was a much bigger need.

Ozzie found a way to upgrade the secondary through free agency and trades, but because he stayed patient in the draft and didn't draft off of need and impulse, you came away with the potential shutdown CB that everyone has wanted and this defense has needed.

Now my point to this is, that even if Kindle is in great shape and health, there is no way of telling how his brain will react to contact, or if he'll be a player that's easily concussed and miss time often.

Once the lockout is over, i fully expect Ozzie to hit FA and the trade market looking for a pass rusher that can some in and provide much need pressure opposite from Suggs. I don't think Ozzie and company will just sit back and say, oh well, we didn't get a pass rusher, hopefully Joe and Torrey can connect on enough touchdowns for the pass rush not to matter.

If Flacco had the ability, that 6-6 frame would be freakish at corner :P

We had Wilson/Carr and Webb (for the most part) doing a number on those guys. Id be hard pressed to say Smith/Foxworth/Webb/(Wilson or Carr) couldnt do the same if not better.
